One would assume that turning sixty would protect a woman from certain things; cat calls, being propositioned every time you sat at a bar by yourself, the monthly menace, being kidnapped by aliens, the office letch, and a plethora of other annoyances weathered in her youth.
Did I mention being kidnapped by aliens?
Yeah, I was wrong about that one.
The girls of the Tuesday Night Outlander Book Club were enjoying a mountain hike that ended with the proverbial bright light and now I’m trapped on an alien space ship. The best part of this whole fiasco, the aliens have a nifty little machine that “resets” you—so now I have my twenty-something body back.
The worst part? I’m marked to be sold as a sex slave to some perverted alien royalty.
Until him.
At first I thought Khaion was an angel. But he’s something better. He’s a member of a warrior race bred to protect and defend those in need. Khaion vows to stay at my side while his crew search the stars for my friends.
And staying by Khaion's side... that's something my reawakened hormones greatly appreciate!
Chieftain is a full-length sci-fi romance with a dreamy hero, spunky heroine and a satisfying HEA. If you like sexy alien men, feisty heroines, love that's meant to be, you'll love Chieftain, the first book in the Outlander Book Club... in Space series!
Seriously struggling with this. I understand that this genre is often more fiction than science, and just intended to be entertainment, rather than have to hold up to scrutiny.
But it still needs to at least be plausible!
You have a group of women friends, all supposedly highly successful, all in greatly varying careers. Very unlikely, but okay.
Their personalities are silly, a bit immature, and bordering on less intelligent sounding. When one is supposed to be a retired D.A., another a highly successful chef and restaurant owner, another a minsters widower, then there’s also a high school teacher, and another still, an ex military officer, with her father and her deceased husband also in the military.
Yeaaah, nope. Not believable.
These personalities don’t fit what would be required to achieve those accomplishments and lifestyles.
Then the alien commander, supposedly in service around Earth for a hundred years, but is still spelling out orders on what his crew should do, in detail, and explaining everything… Nope.
We have swords and knives, ‘laser guns’, (and yes, this is what they were called). Military personnel running around in space shirtless, and another dressed like a priest, in order to reassure any human victims they find while boarding the slaver ship.
No communication, no attempts to get them to surrender, despite the space cops being in a ship many times larger, with weapons and a crew size to match. Nope, their gonna forcefully board and ‘fight’. This is considered the tactical choice to save any humans aboard…
The final straw, is when the FMC looks outside the escape pods she’s in, and sees hazy grey smoke. IN THE VACUUM OF SPACE.
Then the MMC tells her not to move around as it will throw the pod off course…
Now, even considering that an escape pod would have artificial gravity (highly unlikely), gravity would only be present inside. The pod itself, would still be in, THE WEIGHTLESS VACUUM OF SPACE. Meaning, their simple movements inside, would not be able to affect the pods course trajectory.
I seriously can’t imagine this getting any better. Even suspending believability, this is just too cringe and silly for me.
I loved this book, what a great start of a series, can’t wait for the next book. I read a sci fi romance book every day, but this one seemed more unique, a very enjoyable read. Recommend
I enjoyed the book. The main premise of older women being transformed into their younger selves was original and very entertaining. Characters were fun and likable. The only thing I didn’t like was the section about Marilyn Monroe. I thought it was unnecessary and weird. Other than that, everything was perfect. A few grammatical errors so could use some better proofreading, but not that bad. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. I hope it releases soon!
Omg I absolutely loved this book...the story has twists turns and it keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering where its going next.....I can not wait for the next book to come out....just brilliant highly recommend
Good idea and great start. I had some difficulty getting into the story as the author switches verb tense constantly, particularly in the love scenes. It’s present then past tense all in the same paragraph. Very confusing. I ended up skimming through the last third
I like the premise of these books - 60-70 year old women being abducted and being “healed” to our most perfect age which is apparently 25. As someone heading towards these women's original age, I was wondering if they would behave differently from the twenty somethings that are the usual MFCs of this genre. The answer is, not much.
There's nothing wrong with this story but I'm curious to see if later books in the series have some more depth and consideration about the mental maturity of the MFCs. I guess I wanted a bit more wondering about the thought processes that would take place going from a lifetime of experience back to being in a young body again. A small example - would a 60 year old woman call her vagina a “vajayjay”?
It's been a couple decades since I read the Outlander series. This series is a fun homage to Claire and Jamie Fraser and a nod of respect to the older romances this genre is built on.
I've tried 3 times to finish this book and it's just not resonating with me.
I'm not sure if it's the regeneration of these women to their younger selves, fit, healthy n fertile that offends me, because wouldn't it be lovely to actually read one of these alien books were it's not just young fertile women that are valued but mature women too. because they have value still, now wouldn't that be a novelty.
yes I get if the aliens need to build their species they need to have offspring, but I'd love to read a book about a mature warrior, who thinks he's past his prime and watches all the younger warriors finding mates, finds his own. not for her womb but for all that she can bring.
and that's the problem, because that's the book I want to read and this ain't it!
When I read the synopsis and her age is what drew me to read it. However right off the bat her body is changed back to a 25 year old. I would have preferred the alien falling for an older woman with her real body.
I debated on the rating for this one- I was originally leaning a little higher, but the deeper I got, the more typos ( mostly spelling) and things appeared. And the more times the author switched from past tense to present tense- that was even more distracting than the typos. If this had been well edited, I would have given it 4 or 4 1/2☆s, because it really was a good story😊 I liked the unique premise that these were all older women and just got a lucky trip through a med machine that restored them to their peak point for health , which conveniently took them back to 25-35 in appearance- pretty cool😎 It could have been a much funnier story, if the author had capitalized on that angle! Unfortunately, the author didn't really write the characters with the maturity and confidence from life experience of women in their 60's, so that was kind of a bummer. It felt like the author was just throwing a bone to older readers, like myself, rather than really giving them a fantasy love story. The FMC is far too insecure and lacking in confidence, considering her actual age, and her career, and someone that age would have enough common sense to NOT distract the hero while he was fighting the bad guy while trying to save her- come on! I get annoyed when an author makes characters do dumb things to move the action or plot in the direction they want to go, rather than just put some thought and effort into it, ugh! Also, while romantic, the whole heart beating in sync thing would be dramatically impractical and possibly downright dangerous, depending on the situation- and what if one of them dies for Pete's Sake !!?? Too many unanswered questions there! So while I DID enjoy the story and I will most likely read the next one( despite the typos it started out with from the epilogue in this one), I will also be hoping for it to level up and move into the 4-5 ☆ range that I feel it could be!🤞🩷🩷🩷
Emmy a prosecuting attorney is out on a Appalachian Trail hiking with her best friends in the Outlander book club ( another story I love both the books and the television story) when they are abducted by aliens who then separated them to be solved based on their regeneration form an illegal machine. Emmy is rescued by a chieftain who crew is takes to protect the unaware Earthlings from the aliens who continue to abduct them despite the law. She convince her new crush to look for her friends and tries to manage her attraction to the alien Chieftain who can’t refuse her despite his concern that they can never mate. Lots of adventures and opportunities for the rescuers to see how much the human females will fight for what they want.
First, I spotted a few grammatical and editing errors that could easily be fixed, but I was willing to let them go as they weren’t as plentiful as some of the other books I’ve read.
Second, while I did find myself bored at one point, do to the repetition of a specific scenario, the premise of the book kept me reading.
This is what a consider a low spice book.
My rating is based on:
Action ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Believable storyline & overall plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Entertainment 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Spicy 🌶️ Triggers 🚩 Writing style & written format ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Overall a solid 3/5
Note the lower the 🚩 the better, meaning not many triggers & defines it as a romantic read not dark romance.🥰
I didn’t know what to expect going in to this book, but I’m so glad I tried it! I was a beta reader and had only ever read a few of the Ice Planet Barbarians books when it comes to alien romance, so I don’t have a huge frame of reference, but this was a super cute, funny, and heartwarming love story with a hot alien MMC and a woman who gets to find herself again and get a second chance romance. The healer aspect was really unique. I haven’t heard of anything like this before and hope the next in the series comes out soon!
Strong women, interesting male aliens. No forced sex, just a gradual process that has a huge advantage. I liked Emmy she's woman that treasures honest emotion and although the attraction is almost instantaneous, it's a slow gradual burn that makes sense. Characters are a little wordy, but for the most part everything is explained in detail. It was a nice read and looking forward to the second installment.
The story is good and moved on alone with dude adventures. I loved the fact the women are in their 50s and 60s and will be revitalized to their 20s. Of course, the men are perfect and gorgeous. I won't tell the one spoiler because I was very surprised. But inserting the ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’ was pure genius on Annie Lucas’ part. When I read it it was nice to know ‘she’ found happiness at last. Now onto Book #2, yahoo!
3.5 🌟 That was just a bit of fun! A bunch of older ladies in their sixties on a bookclub girl's camping trip end up abducted by aliens, sci-fi zapped into younger physical versions of themselves, and meet sexy space warriors who want to claim them as mates.... what's not to love?!
The only thing dragging this over-the-top romp down was the overly awkward love scenes. First person present tense made the scenes clunky to read, so I mostly skimmed through them. The rest of the story was more than enough fun.
I really enjoyed this novel. It had humor, romance, spice, danger and suspense. The author's descriptions of alien environments and alien species painted vivid mental images. It also took more than an hour or two to read which made it more enjoyable for me. I'm looking forward to next book already!
Honestly, I love this idea. This whole storyline was great. There are a few typos, and truly, this story could be reduced by at least 100 pages. I just love the storyline. And as most avid readers are above the age 30, I thought this was beyond relatable.
When Emmy and her group of Friends go camping, they didn't imagine being kidnapped by aliens. Even more, they didn't imagine being placed in a machine to reverse their ages. They've all been separated, and Emmy asks Khaion to look for her friends. She doesn't intend to fall for Khaion, but neither did he. This is slow burn romance.
this was a pretty good read. Be forewarned, there is ALOT of really odd phrasing/missing words in this book. I finally decided to highlight them just to be positive my brain wasn't melting.
other than the odd phrases and BI-ZARRE cover choice, I'd say it's a lighter read. expect fluff, aliens, and mating to happen.
I really enjoyed this sci-fi adventure book!! I love Emmy and the Chieftain Khaion are together and I’m really happy that they’re true mates!! I believe all the guys who left for one of Emmy’s friends will be their true mates!! I have a great feeling about this series!
I really liked the premise of the more mature women but the lack of proofreading destroyed it for me. Too many dids instead of didn’ts and caps instead of cats. It’s a shame, I think this series has great potential.
This was a great page turner you don't want it to end six women that were close to sixty and out hiking all from a book club then they were taken by aliens who but the best is they were captured by the heart do thrilling and heart stopping yes!
This is such an interesting premise for a book and overall, I really enjoyed reading it. There were times it dragged a bit and the FMCs inner thoughts tended to ramble on and on becoming tedious. I will definitely be checking out book two.
A very enjoyable and quick read. Story line is good. Characters are cute, funny and interesting. Interesting take on aliens kidnapping human from earth.
