The Obsidian Dragon is an entertaining Fantasy Fiction that is suitable for fans of fantasy fiction. The author skillfully creates a strong connection between the characters, especially Aribeth and Shinya, the man in her dreams. The author’s vivid prose and well-rounded characters also add to the story’s emotional depth.
The story is engaging and memorable because of the skillfully rendered themes of friendship and resilience. As you read through the twists and turns of the novel, you will find a story of true love, friendship, good and evil, survival, and trust.

Un romanzo fantasy avvincente in bilico tra sogni, visioni e realtà. Un mix tra la tradizione giapponese e il dark fantasy. L'idea è molto interessante. Avrei preferito più dettagli sui personaggi (soprattutto all'inizio) e in alcune occasioni.

The Obsidian Dragon by Angel G. T. is a fantasy tale set in our contemporary world featuring magic, monsters, and romance. I have read several books with a similar theme. But, the vast world expansion in this story intrigued me. It made me pick this book up, expecting a fresh take on fantasy fiction, and I was not disappointed. We follow Aribeth’s mundane academic life with her best friend Marika. She is riddled with mysterious dreams that feel less like dreams and more like premonitions of a wild and unfathomable life experience coming for her. All hell breaks loose when Aribeth spots the same enigmatic man she sees in her dreams at a pub. But this time, it’s not a dream.
The story takes you through multiple landscapes across the world. The author's picture portrayal is impeccable. Whether navigating the ancient streets of Egypt or witnessing the suave blossoming beauty of Japan, Angel's description choices to set up a scene are so effortless that you will find yourself making the journey with the protagonist, aiding your visual imagination perfectly.
Featuring witty one-liners with good timing and a steady pace, Angel’s attempt to teleport you to Aribeth’s astounding yet believable world pays off well. Sometimes, relatability goes for a toss in fiction featuring sorcery and adventure, and it becomes tasking for a reader to connect to the story. But Angel’s book blends the right amount of believability and transcendence together. I like the author’s way of realistic thinking engraved into the fantasy pageturner.
One thing that I found a little bit off is the protagonist's narrative style. At times, it feels as if the protagonist is breaking the fourth wall and has the realisation that she's got a story to tell rather than going into this magical journey clueless along with the readers, unfolding step by step. This move dilutes the authenticity of Aribeth's motivations and actions as the tension buildup flounders on and off.
Another thing that was disheartening is that the book has some language errors and spelling mistakes. So much so that I was unable to ignore it. The manuscript clearly needed more polishing in terms of editing, and I hope the author rectifies this in the next book of the series.
Overall, The Obsidian Dragon is a fun and light read that will keep you hooked if you are a fan of fantasy fiction with attention to detail. It’s not a book that will change your life, but it will surely keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat wanting more.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. Overall, I found this story to be a creative and unique idea but I wish that more time had been spent developing the characters and the scenes rather than flashing from one point to the next so quickly. The Obsidian Dragon by Angel G.T. is an absorbing epic fantasy thriller blended with paranormal romance. The story starts in Cambridge, England. Aribeth Mitchell is a history student at Cambridge University. Aribeth kept having the same dream each night about meeting a mysterious Japanese man in Egypt. Unexpectedly, she saw him fleetingly at a student party. Then she saw his image in a book on Japanese culture as she was packing for a student expedition to Japan to explore the oldest villages along the old trade route, Nakasendo. On her flight to Japan, Aribeth had a dream about this man’s standoff with a rival competing for her. Visiting Ninomaru Palace in Japan, Aribeth saw him sitting on a step in the hallway. Who is that mysterious stranger and why does he keep appearing to Aribeth?
Reading Angel G.T.’s The Obsidian Dragon, I marveled at the awesome writing quality unusual for debut novels. I loved the plot and the atmospheric deja vue of Cambridge and the River Cam. I enjoyed the fast-paced storyline packed with travel adventures and insights into Japanese scenery, traditions, and way of life. I also enjoyed the awesome humor that offered a good respite from the suspenseful tensions of the plot. But most of all I enjoyed the magic that pervaded the story from the first page to the last and the ending that invites a sequel. I recommend this remarkable novel to adult epic fantasy and paranormal romance fans. Due to the graphic scenes of violence, gore, and sex, this novel is unsuitable for young or sensitive readers.
