After losing Shane Reinhart, the man she’d hoped to marry, registered nurse Amber Monroe is desperate to put the pieces of her life back together. To do that, she must break free of her family obligations. Moving on shouldn’t be so difficult, but things become complicated when Dr. Nick Tanner enters the picture.
Former trauma surgeon turned patient; Nick has come to Milwaukee to return Shane’s personal items to Amber Monroe. Nick’s body and spirit are broken, but meeting the Monroe family begins to heal him in a way he hadn’t thought possible. Yet it’s clear Amber has a plan, one that doesn’t include him. Letting her go isn’t easy. Unless he can find a way to convince her that love is an adventure, too...
Nicely written story of two people who meet and can’t figure out what they need to do to be together. Interesting look at the behind-the-scenes of a VA hospital and it’s rehab patients.
Laura Scott is one of my favorite authors. This is one of her medical dramas. Amber Monroe is a nurse at a VA hospital in Milwaukee. She is the youngest in her family and feels like they are smothering her. She wants to travel and see somewhere that isn’t Wisconsin. She has lost the man (Shane Reinhart) she thought she was going to marry and has decided to take a traveling nurse position in Florida. Dr Nick Tanner is a trauma surgeon who has suffered severe injuries. He blames himself for Shane’s death. He has arrived in Milwaukee to return Shane’s personal items to Amber. Sparks fly between the two, but Nick is just arriving and Amber is ready to go.
Nurse Amber wants to travel the country by taking temporary nursing contracts in different states. She is seeking adventure, but mostly seeking to escape her family, who are caring and protective.
Military trauma surgeon Nick is recovering from an airplane accident.
Enter insta-love.
Some editing errors, like,
“Even some routine medical phrases different, and she had to assume the duties were, too.” ‘Differed,’ maybe?
I’m not sure preened and mollified were used correctly.
Christian.
The story was pretty good, though the romance was rather stiff, and the ending rather abrupt.
‘Broken Dreams’ was heartfelt. The plot involved an injured surgeon in rehab from his devastating airplane accident abroad and meeting his deceased friend’s girlfriend once he returned home to the states. Also, the plot involved adversity, mistrust, on-the-job HR difficulties, asserting oneself, coping with changing a career path due to limited physical abilities, family angst, dreams, and falling in love. Moreover, Amber and Nick, the protagonists, forged their paths and became soulmates. I kept rooting for them. Additionally, I appreciated the author’s vivid descriptions that created a touching tone. Overall, I liked the sweet narrative.
Amber comes from a large family and she feels suffocated by their overprotectiveness. She signs up to be a traveling nurse so that she can see all 50 states
Nick is a trauma surgeon. He and his friend, Shane were in a plane crash. Shane was killed. Nick goes to WI to return some things to Amber. She had hoped Shane would ask her on a fate when he got back.
Nick feels too damaged to be any good to anyone. Because of nerve damage in his hand, he can't be a surgeon
Amber sees his pain and helps him work thru it. Very good book.
She is a nurse and has a big family . She wants to travel so she dreams and plans. But now she has met a great guy who she is falling hard for. But e has settled into her home town to stay. Her boyfriend encourages her to travel a bit and move away for a temporary adventure. It doesn’t take too long to realize that is not what she wants. Away from family and friends the adventure isn’t fun
This was my first experience with a medical romance. I really enjoyed it. I worked in the medical field in an accounting capacity. I've always been fascinated with it. This was a good clean book. I look forward to reading the rest of this series. Off to Book 2!
I enjoyed !meeting Amber and her family. Being an only child myself it was easy for me to understand her wish to escape. Not having to answer to a single family or a large family would seem pretty attractive. Thought the medical rehab portions were accurate and interesting. Alex was perfect with his feelings and will win over readers.
I enjoy the books, but they've pretty formulaic. The author should work on building towards the end (climax). It's good for entertainment--not necessarily a profound message.
Amber had dreams of traveling. Nick just wanted to see and return some of Shane's things. Opposite dreams but can they find each other and have what each was looking for together.
This is a sweet story of not understanding the blessings you have until something changes and makes you realize that the grass isn't greener on the other side. I like how both of the characters were broken in different ways and helped each other heal.
I enjoyed the overall storyline. Wonderful characters. Good on medical research. Made me have greater appreciation for those in the medical profession. The lack of editing was distracting at times, but I would look forward to reading more of this series/author.
This book had an interesting story line. I don't have a medical background, but it was clear that the author does. The love story developed at a good pace. I highly recommend the author and series.
Inspirational romance families inspire stories learning medical professionals, very interesting nurses that cares for patients lives. Loved it very well written. Looking for more from Laura Scott
I loved this book and highly recommend it for anyone. The connection between Nick and Amber is so instant and I loved the way the author put "obstacles" in the way, The way they overcome them makes the book.
3.5 stars rounded down. Clean romance. Setting: Milwaukee, WI VA Hospital Nick and Amber. I liked all the medical …. Amber was hard to take at points. Proofreading errors .. but just two that stood out to me.
Remarkably noteworthy story of two respectable, resilient, and resourceful individuals finding each other to have a wonderful life filled with deep love and benevolence!
