BB Bradford and the Sands of Fate

Rate this book
There is a frantic pecking at his bedroom window. BB looks over to see a fluttering yellow bird trying to get his attention. But for some reason he can ’ t get out of bed. His body is pulled to a standing position. He finds his footing, but he isn ’ t really standing on anything. How can he be suspended in air and at the same time feel like he ’ s standing up? The pecking fades as BB realizes he has left not only his bed, but also his room… his house… his city. Nothing makes sense. He peers down a dark tunnel. Sparkling pinpricks form into arrows of light flying directly at him. He throws up his forearm to deflect the bright blades. But they streak past him… and through him. Should he close his eyes or just face whatever is his fate? He decides to force himself to keep alert… stay awake… or is he? BB Bradford is the last person anyone in his class would choose to follow. Despite his efforts to “fit in” with the social scene, he can’t gain a secure foothold. But he is exactly the one The Bond is looking for. Without his knowledge or consent, BB is the face of his generation and will determine its future. As he travels through space and time he battles the dark forces of The Abyss and, in the process, learns who he really is.

I started the book, and then we had a family member get very sick, so I set it aside. When I was finally able to get back to reading, I didn’t want to put this book down! I think all middle schoolers should read this book; it would be a great teacher read aloud! The story shows how a person can change from being an obnoxious, self-serving teen into a caring and compassionate young man. And there’s a bonus feature to the story: learning about famous people and places in history as you read the book. The author did a great job researching to make the story historically accurate. I can’t wait for a sequel.

BB Bradford and the Sands of Fate is a great fantasy adventure with much of the action taking place in the four-dimensional reality of real-world historical events. The main characters are likewise multi-dimensional. They struggle not only against enemies seeking to plunge the world into a new dark age, but also against their own needs and insecurities. Interactions with historical figures give the story an added richness. All in all, BB Bradford is a fun read with deep characters, world, and story.
