And they just agreed to be a part of his experiment.
Shauna Sloane has been on the run for twenty years. She’s survived an alien Invasion. An extraterrestrial war. And eight years of martial law set by the one and only ruling entity for humans on the World Militia. The extraterrestrial life that are still on Earth have divided – some on their own and some bide their time in the Revolt – an extremist group of extraterrestrials and fanatic humans, waiting to strike back.
But now, Shauna has to stop running. Her mom is sick and needs medicine. And for that, Shauna needs money. She agrees to do a sleep study by Dr. Robert Ryder at Independent Labs with five other individuals. But within the facility are hidden agendas and secret identities that catapults Shauna and the other participants right into the middle of the ever-rising tension between the World Militia and Revolt.
With a flair for the dramatic, Rosa is known for her ability to mingle magick, mayhem, and monsters into everyday life. As an introvert, Rosa enjoys canceling plans, letting phone calls go to voicemail, and taking walks with her dog. You can keep up with future book releases on her website: www.pineappledreamspress.com.
Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy of this. I know Rosa IRL, had the joy of working together with her at a previous employer. I was so excited for her, eagerly asked to receive a copy. And then, ruminated on what would I do if I didn't like the book, how would I politely engage in public about the book with someone I am fond of, regarding the creative fruit of their passion and labor.
Fortunately, that would not be an issue here, I am pleased to report. *23* is a rip-roaring ride. An engrossing tale of extraterrestrials, politics, intrigue, subterfuge, and plenty of action. As the story unfolds, lots of reveals where I was like, I should have seen this coming. Also, the predicament (don't want to spoil the story) where at many points, all the "sides" in play seem morally corrupt.
Heartily recommend this title to anyone who enjoys good works of fiction.
I started to read "23" on a 3-hour flight, and let me tell you, I could not put it down for the whole flight! It is exciting, engaging, and well-written! "23" is the story of Shauna Sloane set in a post-apocalyptic world after an alien invasion and war. She offers herself up for scientific experiment to earn money and medicine for her sick mom. Little does she know that the experiments are done by a mad scientist which leads to an exciting and page turning read! I love the main character, Shauna. She is a strong female lead filled with complexity, compassion, courage, and relatability. I look forward to reading more about Shauna as “this is just the beginning.”
What an exciting, new story to read! The characters and “extra” clans were well-thought out and engaging. I found myself wanting to learn more about the backstory of each individual “number.” I can’t wait to read more about Shauna and her friends as they navigate the world both on earth and beyond the stars.
