TURNER THE TYRANT HAS MET HIS MATCH

I was done for. Profoundly screwed.
The issue, of course, was my assistant, Devereux.
She was slowly but surely driving me crazy.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Hiring her was supposed to bring order to my life.
Instead, she’d brought disorder.
Chaos. Irritation. Malaise.
Comfort. Exuberance. Delight.
I was obsessed with her.
Truly, irrevocably obsessed.
She was stubborn. Standoffish. Painfully honest.
Take no prisoners efficient.
In summary, a termagant -- much too young for me.
And even I, oblivious bastard extraordinaire, was aware in some corner of my mind, of every well-laid plan I’d ever had slowly crashing down and exploding into dust.
I was simply no match for Devereux Laurent.

DNF @70%

This review is painful to write because I LOVE RK Lilley. But I swear I felt like I was reading an entirely different author here.

Now, take what I say with a grain of salt because romcoms aren't my usual goto. It's not a genre I gravitate towards unless I love the author. And in this case, I love the author. But this was just way too fluffy for my tastes.

At first, the banter was fun and I enjoyed their constant back and forth. But then I slowly began to grow tired of it because that's all they seemed to share. I felt zero chemistry between them and their banter began to feel corny. I also didn't care for the characters who felt entirely two dimensional. There was nothing to them to keep me engaged, sadly. So when I was still forcing myself to read after 70%, I knew it was time to cut my losses and stop.

No rating since I didn't finish.

DNF @ 60% - maybe I’ll come back to it when I’m less annoyed and have some distance. 🤷🏼‍♀️ This was a lot of fun at first, and then it stopped being funny but awkwardly the jokey-jokes kept going. 🥴 He’s basically a Peter Pan man-boy who’s only personality trait is constantly thinking about and asking for sex. Oh and masterbating. He does a lot of that. Jizzing in his sheets like a pimply tweenager. And she was great until she caved on a dime and went full porn star with no explanation… her POV was desperately needed, cuz he had the emotional range and maturity of a 13 yr old boy. And since we only get his POV, the sex felt cringey and awkward and goofy instead of sexy… and also clinical and detached and casual, like they were just bros humping and were gonna high five at the end. The deepest thing going through his head was “tits!!” Good times. He couldn’t even find some emotional depth (or find a backbone) to direct at his father who screwed his wife and then married her… and now these sh*t stain humans are apparently welcome in his home?? What kind of immature doormat cuckold is this??? No alpha here. I guess I was just supposed to chuckle through all that the way I giggled through the first 3rd of the book. Much like the hero, I found the banter a lot of fun, until it was time to get to some substance. Then it wasn’t fun anymore.

I’m quite sad about this because I’ve loved this author’s books in the past. 💕Arranged lives rent free in my head💕. But man… this was was really not for me. At least not today. Maybe I’ll try again.

Turner Thorn wrote horror, twisted shit with lots of sex and gore, but no one could argue that it wasn’t well-written sex and gore.

5 stars!

What a delight of a read! Written entirely from the hero’s perspective, we get to watch a proudly debauched playboy fall madly and completely in love for the very first time. A funny, smutty, wonderfully entertaining boss/employee, forced proximity, age gap romance, I loved this book!

Turner Thorne was a side character in The Wild Side series, and characters from those books, and from some of Lilley’s other series, appear in this book. I was in fangirl heaven at the cameos, but new readers will easily be able to read this as a standalone.

A famous horror writer, Turner Thorne needs a new assistant (he kept sleeping with his previous ones), and when his friend Iris sets him up with Devereaux Laurent, he hires her on the spot when there seems to be no sexual attraction between them at all. Turner doesn’t take anything too seriously, he’s charmingly childish, completely OTT with the flirting and innuendo, and so overtly and shamelessly hedonistic, it’s funny. And when Devereaux moves in, she quickly takes charge of his life, not falling for any of his crap and snarking back at his constant banter. And of course, he falls completely under her spell.

“What? I’m an affectionate guy.”
“Affectionate like a horny puppy.”
“A horny puppy? Really? That the best you can come up with?”
Her soft, pouty mouth was twisted thoughtfully. “Ridiculous, perverted, narcissist,” she tried.
“Hey!” That one hit close enough to home to actually sting a bit. “I’m not ridiculous.”
She was walking away. “I’m too busy for this, you gorgeous asshole,” she muttered under her breath.
“That one was practically a compliment!”

It’s a fabulous dynamic, with Turner doing everything he can to seduce his young assistant, who seems completely immune to his charms. But there is a flicker of something between them, and the sexual tension is absolutely fantastic!

She ran her thumb slowly over my bottom lip, once, twice. My eyelids drifted shut, but I forced them open to watch the way she was looking at me.
It was insane, with the amount of hedonistic delights I’d buried myself in over the years, but I’d swear it was the most sensual thing I’d ever experienced.
I was trembling. I’d never wanted anyone like this. Her thumb on my lips was more intense than full on penetration with another woman. It was bedlam.

Turner is not a relationship guy, and Deveraux is fully aware of that, but the chemistry between them is impossible to resist and when they inevitably come together, it’s as hot, steamy, passionate and intense as all of the build-up hinted at.

I took a deep breath, then another, my need rising up to the surface until I was choking on it.
“Not to be overdramatic,” I told her gruffly, rubbing her nipple through her thin white blouse, “but if I can’t get my dick inside of you soon, I think I might die.”
She laughed, the sadist.

Turner’s feelings for Devereaux border on obsession, but I loved seeing him so completely smitten. It’s the first time he’s really felt anything for anybody, and he has no idea what he’s feeling, or what to do with all of the emotion that he’s suddenly wrestling with. I loved watching him try to work through it all, suddenly vulnerable and completely clueless, having no clue to handle any of it. And through it all, Devereaux is a powerhouse. Opening herself up to Turner in a way she hasn’t with anybody else, yet standing strong and not allowing him to completely overwhelm her. Between all of the snark, sarcasm, name calling and sexy time, there’s a true equal partnership between them, and I love them together so much!

This is a sweet, smart, funny, sexy and heartfelt story for two fantastic characters, and I loved every moment of this one! And to top it off, there’s a happy ending, and an epilogue which ties everything up beautifully and left me smiling.

This book was so much fun. 5 stars!

I'm sure this is Turner's book. He is nickmamed tyrant. I wanna see him fall soooo hard! And since he decides to hire a worthy assistant for once I bet he'll fall for her. And she won't quit the job! Ahhahah

I don’t get it…

FYI THIS IS A DNF

I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish this book one day but I got to 24% and was waiting to see some sexy alpha male kinda thing going, but… no. The guy is a total whine bag and I really couldn’t get into his character. I was so excited to read this book but the more I read, the less I liked it. Maybe if I read it through I’ll see something but I didn’t really care for their banter either. Maybe I’m in the minority but it felt like I was waiting for something to happen.

Now, the girl (can’t remember her name now since i stopped reasonable it last last) but her personality is is like. Strong female MC, but it still felt lacking. Not my cup of tea and this is a first time author reas for me so maybe this is her style. All cool just not for me. Maybe I’ll pick it back up sometime but I just can’t finish it.

The weekend “party monster”
Drake “ too good”
Justin Timberlake “ my love”

First up I always enjoy this authors writing if anyone knows how to write angst/pain in her stories it’s her. But I was surprised with this one it’s not at all her usual type of plot and that can be a good thing or a bad thing depending of you’re reading preferences.

For me it’s a toss up, while I did think ro & turner had chemistry I was a little bored with how their relationship progressed. It seemed to be non stop banter “ which was fun to read” but after a while it got boring and I wanted them to move into something els… like it felt so one dimensional, I was getting near the end of the book and they were still just fucking & cracking jokes at each other.

There wasn’t a lot of angst that I expected which kinda bummed me out most of the Angst seem to come near the end like the last 5 chapters of the book… and I just wasn’t impressed by that especially since there characters didn’t go anywhere or move in any kind of direction like I said it was just banter & sex between them.

Obviously as in tuners POV we know he pretty quickly is falling for ro but can’t admit to himself bc he’s allergic to feelings. I saw some ppl complain bc they wanted to know what ro was feeling since she didn’t have her pov.

But tbh I could read her character without it Ik just like Turner she was catching feelings and was trying to hide from it.

It was a good story but just very different from what I’m used to seeing from RK lilley I missed the toxicity/ott/angst I get from her and it kinda seemed like she was trying to tone it down for new readers..

Safety info

He’s a huge manwhore

When ro first came he even showed her his sex room/ play room bc he liked getting a reaction out of her

He had a threesome the night before he met her so she saw the two woman

And he had another one night stand the next day no scene on either of them thank god

He also fucked her cousin a while back ago bc her cousin use to work for him before he even met ro
But tbh she only came up once near the end so idk how they deal with that ..

He’s pretty much all abt her after that

She’s a virgin but it doesn’t bother me when Rk writes virgin hS. she makes it make sense actually gives them a reason and not just bc she’s waiting for the hero.

She also burns down his playroom near the end of the book bc he gets mad at her and wants her to show him how she feels too. So he was really happy abt it

But I kinda wish he did it instead to show ro he was serious abt her

the more I think abt turner tho funny & I liked him is not the kind of hero I enjoy reading abt he was the funny bro guy type of personality and that’s not my jam.

I absolutely loved loved loved this book! The dynamic between Turner and Ro was amazing! I loved their oneupmanship on name calling it was brilliant! Turner was completely captivated by Ro from their very 1st meeting (not that he knew lol!).

The writing was so good, I couldn’t put my kindle down, it became my very best friend! Hands down in my top 5 books I have read this year and I have read over 200 books so far!

I found Turner hilarious I adored him, he so needed Ro to put him in his place, but also support him when needed. The pair generated plenty of spice too! This has such a believable partnership between the pair. I loved how much Turner loved Ro’s family too.

A wonderful book full of humour, spice and one of the best connections I have read. An easy 5 stars, loved it!

The first half of the book is for 4 stars, and the second half for 2 stars.
In beginning Ro persistently rejects Tyrant and for half the story they just compete and insult each other, and then suddenly big break. She agrees to everything. Of course, she refuses to give him her V-card, but immediately agrees to anal. WTF. Simply no.

This book was something else! Super hilarious back and forth banter the whole time and my sarcastic heart loved every minute of it. Turner is an author who can’t keep an assistant to save his life (because all the women who apply for the job just want his hot body). But then his best friend finds someone “wholesome” (Devereux) and not Turner’s type to become his assistant. Dev is a wannabe writer herself who wants to learn from Turner and is able to keep him in line. The best part is the funny spewing of words to each other that only writers/readers would get. Even the spicy scenes made me laugh most of the time. Quite light hearted but also feel good. The ending had me satisfied and I loved it!

I’ve been waiting for this author to publish something for soooo long and it finally happened! Usually I don’t like male POV romances, but I’ve been looking forward to Turner’s story for YEARS. It was a lot fluffier than this author’s usual stories with very little angst.

My main complaint is Ro dating OM towards the end. That’s one of my biggest pet peeves and it wasn’t really necessary to their story IMO. Can’t wait for teacher’s pet.

If you love a steamy boss and assistant romance, this one fits the bill and delivers plenty of banter. Author Turner is in need of an assistant and gets one in the form of the innocent Devereaux or Ro. Ro is full of sass but also believes in going to church and dresses modestly. The complete opposite of playboy Turner, who doesn't take anything seriously and has an endless supply of women. Something about Ro calls to Turner, and he finds himself falling under her spell more each day, but he will have to undergo some radical changes to win her forever.

This book is a single pov and told from the hero's perspective, which I actually loved. I found Turner ridiculous, humorous, and ornery, yet still charming. I adored their banter and antics to one up each other at times but also their solidarity as a team. Both characters stretch the other's boundaries and equally make mistakes. I especially loved seeing Turner fall in love even as he didn't realize it himself before a physical connection was made. I felt like he did show growth over time and through his thoughts. I'm definitely dying for Carter's story, and we get to see some familiar faces!

At first, I was not sure if I would be able to finish this book: H was a man-whore and he even had a sex room for all his one-night-stand or his regular. Gradually, we got to read how he built up his relationship with h, and their chemistry. You couldn't help but keep on reading, waiting for them to be together.

Epilogue was cute.

Surprisingly enjoyed the male POV for this read. RK Lilley can’t write anything bad so I’m not surprised I read this in a day. FMC is unique, stubborn, and an earth sign if I had to guess. Her energy was relatable af. Anyone who wants a sexy, funny, palate cleanser, this is it.

This was such an unexpected joy to read!
The banter between the main characters was so on point, their chemistry was straight fire 🔥!
Every sardonic phrase Devereaux deadpanned in Turner’s direction made me clap with glee. Her acerbic wit and ready one liners made her one of my favorite female main characters in recent years.
I loved the playfulness between our leads, and how naturally everything developed between the two of them. Absolutely nothing felt forced about this pairing, and this author, who had already firmly cemented herself as one of my favorites, truly outdid herself with this book. It’s become a fast favorite.

Cute

Well, I did like the first chapter. A few choice thoughts by the H had me laughing out loud. It went a little downhill for me from there. I think it would have been more enjoyable if the story had been told from two POV's. Not knowing what the h was thinking or feeling made me feel I was missing something vital to the story.

4.5 stars. Turner Thorn is a bestselling author of sexy and gruesome horror stories and he lives a lifestyle consistent with that success, which is over the top. The world truly is his oyster, so why not sample all that it has to offer? In the meantime, he’s looking for an assistant who can actually help keep him on task rather than fool around with and manage to get work done, too. This is where Devereux Laurent, or Ro, comes in.

The story is entirely in Turner’s POV and he had me in stitches with his antics and inner monologue. While Ro doesn’t immediately appeal to him physically, she is excellent at her job and diligently focuses on work rather than fangirl over Turner, which fuels his curiosity about her. She’s a puzzle he wants to solve, which is when the attraction begins to build because she surprises and challenges him at every turn. Yet this absolutely delights him and he’s like a child, testing her out to see her reactions and he adores all of the results.

It’s a light read with a lot of funny dialogue. Turner is besotted and smitten with Ro and he hasn’t even realized it yet, but his actions say it all. I loved how Ro could put him in his place and didn’t sit around with heart eyes for him. And let’s not overlook the sexy times, which are a steam fest even for Turner, who is with someone much less experienced, but he has so much to show her. This story made me smile a lot because of how endearing this couple is while watching Turner slowly come to his own epiphany that love is real and worth fighting for.

I had a lot of fun in this one! I laughed so many times. I absolutely loved their banter and all the witty sarcastic and dark humor. RK Lilley does banter so successfully, with so much character and in a way that so few authors can.

The romance here was lacking for me a bit though especially in the last half. Surprisingly I wanted more from the h. She was so sweet with him, so worshipping, I loved how she could refuse him nothing but I felt like it was pretty obvious how he felt and kept wanting her to hair speak up about her feelings. There was a lot of inaction from her and I don’t think the fact that this was a single POV, his POV book, helped that. They were totally charming together don’t get me wrong but their relationship very much felt like best friends who have sex even at the end. I absolutely believe they love each other in their own special way I just wasn’t connected to their type of love. I def wanted more angst as well because the author is just so dang good at it.

It was still a completely entertaining immersive read that I throughly enjoyed though and am so glad that she is writing again!

Overall: 3.5

It had been some time since RK Lilley had released anything new, so when I saw she was coming back, I was beyond excited! Anyone who knows me knows that this author is in my top 5 and an author who got me into romance all those years ago and reading her new release Tyrant reminded me of why I fell in love with the genre so much.

RK Lilley came back with a punch with this book. It was steamy af, laced with humour, fun banter and even some emotional and sad moments. It had a bit of everything. Turner aka Tyrant and Ro were everything and the push and pull between the two of them was intense, to say the least. It was addictive and hot af! RK Lilley knows how to write the romance with the right amount of smut and she proves with each release that she can't write a bad book.

I highly recommend this. You won't be disappointed!

ARC REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐
3.5 stars

I've read and loved books by Lilley before so when I had the chance to sign up for this, I couldn't wait! So we meet a hot boss and he's insatiable when it comes to sex. He needs to get serious with his latest book release and needs someone who whips him into shape, organises him and pretty much keeps him on track.

This story follows the relationship as boss and PA and because Devereux has the balls to say 'no' to him, Thorn can't take it. Strong chemistry is there between them and so is his funny banter. He turns into a caveman until they finally come together.

This book was set in the POV of Thorn felt very flat and one tone for me. Sadly I couldn't appreciate it and left it with a 3.5 star rating. I hope others find it entertaining, this one just wasn't for me.

I have been a fan of RK Lilley for several years now, her stories always give me so many feelings and this one is not the exception, I loved this book, it is so sexy, funny and romantic.

Turner is such a quirky, swoony hero, I loved his sense of humor, so hilarious and his monologues made me laugh out loud. When he meets Deveraux, he sees her as a demure and serious person and perfect as his secretary. But as time goes by he begins to feel attracted to her and what begins as an attraction gradually gives way to an obsession and deeper feelings. I loved their scenes, Turner jealous and possessive and the sex scenes almost set my tablet on fire, deliciously hot.

Tyrant is a steamy and fun slow burn romance, unique, addictive and captivating, highly recommended!

I have missed this authors words!! Her hiatus from writing saddened me.
Reading this book reminded why she is one of my favorite authors.
Her stories are all addicting and this one is no different.
Characters you feel like you could be friends with.
Our couple was adorable their banter made me smile.
Their flirting led to some serious steam.
They had a great "arrangement" I wanted more I knew they felt more. BUT....
I was worried it was going all wrong I wanted them together.
But I had faith and RK Lilley gave me a perfect HEA.
Seeing Tristan Vega my all time #1 Book Boyfriend was icing on a delicious Tyrant cake.
