This series is a fun read where women who have been disillusioned by abuse find the charm of the rural Cowboy Creek Christian men healing. It is sweet, gracious and rather unreal.
I enjoyed Ms Slack’s willingness to explore the challenges of overcoming an unloved childhood, broken hearts, and oppressive philanderers in the path of finding both a true relationship with God and a right relationship with a spouse.
I suspect that there are both men and women who would love life to be so simple as to put in an ad for a spouse and have the perfect match show up. That’s the charm of this series. The simplistic idea that in days one can have victory over all his/her fears, doubts, distrust, and even hostility about marriage is hard to swallow.
Nonetheless, I liked Sawyer and Katie and was rooting for them to find affection and peace with one another.
While fun and utterly imaginary, this book belies the real work that a good marriage with any depth requires.
Katie's parents died when she was young. She was shuffled back and forth between relatives, but was treated as an unpaid slave. Because Katie was very beautiful, men started making advances at a young age. As she got older, the owner of the home where she was a maid, made it clear that she would either give him the attention that he wanted or she would be without a job. She agrees to be a mail order bride.
Sawyer was in love with a lady, but he wasn't good enough for her. She didn't want to stay in a small town. Sawyer is determined to not give his heart to a scheming woman again.
When Katie shows up, she thinks Sawyer is like every other man. She has a hard time trusting.
I love this series of books. This is probably my favorite so far. I loved Katie's story. She had to learn to trust not just men, but people. Such a sweet book.
Katie, a teen, upon the loss of her parents has had nothing but negative experiences with menfolk amidst kin and in work positions. When it becomes intolerable, she opts to be a mail-order bride. Despite Sawyer, who has a previous bad experience being older, he must regain her trust in men to overcome her past. This clean CF story really delves in the emotional aspect of both main characters to overcome their past in trust issues. However, the ending didn't jive when the daughter of a banker hits on Sawyer, a pig farmer, regardless of his good looks causing Katie to be jealous and come around. Makes more sense that it would have been someone more familiar in the trade aspect than society. Otherwise, a good bedtime read.
Katie's parents died, and she was shifted from one home to another. She was treated like a servant and men wanted to take advantage of her. This made her not to trust men.
She worked as a maid and the master of the house was always sneaking up on her to take advantage of her. Each time it got worse.
She decided to leave and travel a distance to become a mail order bride.
She was matched up with a hog farmer. He was very kind to her. She still had a problem trusting.
Loved this book, as I love all of Teresa Slack’s books! I really liked Katie’s story, and was so happy when she found a safe place to land! It gives us all hope that things can get better, when we sometimes take that chance that scares us! We need to pray and ask guidance, but be prepared to do what’s needed. As always I was not ready for Katie’s time with me to end! I thought after that last page, instead of saying “the End”, it should have said, “the Beginning”!!
Katie had a rough life, orphaned as a young girl, she was pry to many men and boys. When she was threatened by the man of the house at her last place of employment, she knew she needed to leave Cincinnati. Terrified of men, yet she moved to Cowboy Creek to get married. What does she expect will happen? Katie, is a sweet story of a young girl living in daily fear who takes her own life into her own hands. Great Story.
Katie was matched with Sawyer. She has had a very rough life and is scared of men with good reason. She had been abused by her uncle, cousins, and boss. It would take a while for her to learn to trust Sawyer. He was a pig farmer and loved his pigs. But could he learn to love again? Great read! I LOVE Teresa Slack's books. You will too.
Very short, sweet, inspirational historical romance. There is lots to like in this book such as the gentle, honest way Sawyer and Katie slowly get to know each other and deal with past traumas. The butterfly scene is precious. Unfortunately, I associate hog farming with Robert Pickton so I found the setting disturbing - especially with Katie's past :(
I enjoyed the book! Katie and Sawyer had to come to terms with their damaged pasts before they could find their happily ever after. This book is part of a series but can be read standalone. I recommend reading this book!
This was a very nice romance between a young woman who never had anyone who cared for het and a handsome pig farmer. She didn't trust any men and was afraid to trust. It's a good caring story.
