Duane Boehm has written another western novel with enough humor, heartbreak, love, and outlaws to keep you turning the page.
Duane Boehm grew up on a farm outside of Petersburg, Illinois. All the time spent driving a tractor gave him plenty of opportunity to let his imagination run wild and not tear up too much equipment. The two passions he developed early in life were the love of playing guitar and reading books.
He eventually moved to a mini-farm outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife and replaced planting corn with trees and raising dogs. For a number of years he worked as an IT consultant and continued with being a part-time musician and songwriter. He dabbled in writing short stories with the idea in the back of his mind that someday he would write a novel. One Christmas after watching "A Christmas Carol", he was inspired to begin his journey as a novelist.

This is a new author for me and I will be reading many more of his books.
I got this e-book from Amazon with kindle unlimited.
A ten year old boy shoots his abusive father, scared his pa is going to kill the his mother. They don't know if he is dead or not, but they don't stick around to find out. Hannah and her son hastily pack up and run - from the law in case they had left a man to die, and from the retribution of an abusive father bent on revenge in the case he doesn't die. Their trail leads them into all sorts of new adventures and I really enjoyed riding along.
I'd rate this PG-13. There's some mild language, violence (of course), and a mild sex scene.

A Dnf. Tstl wimpy villain who keeps shooting his mouth off and getting the snot beat out of him. No wonder he's cranky. Dumb as rocks heroine. She let's her son be constantly degraded and her self beaten rather then go home to her parents. Not noble. Stupid. She is 28 and the oldest of 10 children. No doubt at least half were over 16 making their own way. I'm sure her parents would have thrown another potato in the pot and gave her a roof over her head until she got her her feet. Dimwitted hero who thinks mining payrolls are his own personal piggy banks. He's no robin hood . He just wants to live better without working for it. A dnf at 47%.

When you are an uncaring, selfish bad character you don't expect or prepare for your comeuppance. And when that retribution comes from your10 year old son you are taken completely by surprise. Such was the case when young Elijah had experienced enough of the abuse and mistreatment of his mother. The resulting story of strength and change with a dependence on God is a good read for all ages.
When Hannah and her son leaves their home in Colorado fleeing her abusive husband , she headed South. Her 10 year old son had shot her husband to stop him from beating on his mother. Not knowing if he lived she was fearful he would come after them. Very good book. Always look for Duane Boehm's books.
Great story as I have become accustomed with your works. I would have rated this one a 5 but I was disappointed that you chose to use some profanity in this book. I don't remember that in your previous books. I'd give you a 5 if you'd leave out the profanity. It adds nothing at all to the story.
Another entertaining western novel by Mr. Boehm includes the expected excellent dialogue between characters. The storyline is well developed, and deals with the issue of domestic abuse which was common occurrence at the time. Unfortunately it is all to common today. As usual the writing is crisp, time and place well described, and there is plenty of action.
Surely this is the first ever effort to write a book by Duane Boehm. The storyline is weak, the characters are pathetic, their dialogue is stilted and inane, the descriptions and back story are lacking -- it's just a mess. Mr Boehm has written some excellent books from which to choose so give this one a pass. **FREE WITH KINDLE UNLIMITED**
What an outstanding book this was. Lots of adventure, great characters and super good story line. Another excellent book by Duane Boehm. I highly recommend all his books to those that enjoy exceptional Western stories.
I love how the story is so predictable in a way, yet you find many surprises along the way. I love a happy ending and this was a happy ending. Highly recommit his book.
Not quite the shoot them up as other westerns but that makes it fun. A mother and her son on the run with the help of an outlaw. Intriguing and suspense with a little romance included.
Excellent book. I would highly recommend it. I really enjoy the westerns involving the good guys who treat women with respect and lead by example for children. They are protective and very empathetic but tough and not afraid to admit when they make mistakes and learn from them.
This novel was a true story of the west and how difficult it can be to live during these times. Travel, illness and work show the character of the three individuals as they attempt to lead a decent life.
When Hannah's abusive husband knocks her to the floor, his ten year old son shoots him. Not knowing if he'll live or die they head for Santa Fa. He recovers and vows to hunt them down to seek his revenge.
This is not my usual kind of book to read, but it was entertaining. Reading about how people lived back in those times makes me glad I didn’t have to live then. I like the comforts of life too much. But touché to the author, good job.
This is an exciting Western. The story is about a mother and son on the run. Who meet up with a failed bank robber. They form a close knit group and overcome many adversities. This novel has Western action, and romance. I truly enjoyed reading this novel.
Good simple story nicely told. Relatively short. It gets more morally sophisticated towards the end. There are some exciting scenes, but no extreme or protracted trauma that many authors seem to think is required in a novel.
If you are a frequent DB reader you will get what you expect... A well written story with interesting plot and characters. As usual a good evening's entertainment.
Again made situations realistic and believable. Also had good versus evil with good winning. Well written and a very good story. Like your style of writing.
What a wonderful western classic that didn’t end in 80,000 brief read it and Done! A great story, captivating and fun. So glad to have had a chance to have read it.
