An aircraft crashes into a country mansion at Bewl Water in Kent, killing everyone attending a weekend party. A terrible accident or a deliberate act of vengeance? A girl is then reported missing and her mother is murdered before three men are shot dead at a local beauty spot. ‘Retribution’ is the third book in the DI Sarah Hunter and DS Ted Selitto series in which the two detectives are faced with trying to find a link between apparently unconnected events. Eventually, they embrace the possibility that one of their most feared adversaries is pulling all the strings as this intricate and thrilling tale of revenge reaches a remarkable last-page climax.

Retribution is the third book in the DI Sarah Hunter and DS Ted Selitto series
The first book was Danger in August 2020, followed by Assassin December 2021. And now Retribution 2023.
This is the first I've read of the series, and even though this reads as a standalone, there are references of the previous books within the story.
This thriller is a cracker of a book. It starts when an aircraft crashes into a country mansion, killing everyone attending a weekend party. And as the story unfolds, it's not all it seems. The characters are really easy to read and are believable, and the way the story is told makes it a complete page turner.
There is so much going on, with a missing girl and a killed mother and shootings at a local beauty spot. The action never seems to stop. I love the way that I could picture just what was going on in my head, the police briefings, the interrogations, all because it was described in such detail.
I am definitely going to look out for the first two books after reading this, and I'm looking forward to what Robin Nye brings out next.
If they twist and turn right until the end as much as this book did, I am going to love it.

🖋3.5 🌟review🖋 I was sent this book in return for my honest unbiased review.
Retribution is a full-on police procedural which reflects a lot of brilliant research. I did feel that I had missed out not having read books 1 & 2 as relationships between the characters has obviously been developed there. However having said that, this can be read as a standalone, making sense in its own.
The story is very detailed - at times I could have done with less detail (I didn’t need full names and rank of officers every time or address of the different police stations)
The characterision is clear with each character having their own traits and attributes, however I didn’t feel an emotional attachment to any of them.
The atrocities in the story were gruesome and detailed, working well with the horrific nature of the crimes. The plot cleverly covers several stories which share threads but no clear connection, when the police team start investigating. It must have been a mammoth task to develop them all and start to weave them together.
I enjoyed reading this story, and learnt a lot about things like county lines, but after such a lengthy tome, the ending came too fast and, for me, a bit disappointing as it didn’t tie up all the loose ends, too many things I still needed answers to, although definitely open for a follow up.
