The second, thrilling instalment of the pulse-pounding Jamie Johansson Files crime thriller series. Perfect for fans of Welsh crime, Simon McCleave, Anglea Marsons, and DS Butler.
Morgan Greene grew up in Wales, and works a copywriter, editor, and author. Morgan studied Creative Writing and English Literature at Swansea University with a focus on narrative structure and theory, and published the first crime novel in the Jamie Johansson series in 2020. Since its release, the series has gone on to reach bestseller status, with Detective Jamie Johansson quickly becoming a reader favourite.
The series blends classic Scandi-noir elements with modern and cinematic thriller writing to create a unique style that adds to the emerging Brit-noir genre. Jamie has many novels ahead of her, but Morgan is also working on a variety of other projects across crime, thriller, and mystery and plans to publish plenty more in 2022 and beyond.
First and foremost, a large thank you to Morgan Greene for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.
Always a fan of Morgan Greene and the Jamie Johansson series, I eagerly accepted an early copy of this book. Continuing the latest chapter in Jamie Johansson’s life, both personal and professional, the book explores her time in Wales and the crimes that come her way. Working with INTERPOL, Detective Johansson has angered some of the most ruthless human traffickers ever and left her at the top of their list to extinguish. Jamie will have to work quickly to recover a young woman kidnapped by the Armenians, while juggling another new partner. Greene does a wonderful job with this piece, keeping readers wondering until the very end.
Detective Jamie Johansson has a way of upsetting people with her brash actions and provoking demeanour. This is fully apparent when she cut off the flow of young women and girls through Aram Petrosyan’s trafficking ring during a recent case. While there are surely many new paths that can be forged, the brutal Armenian wants to settle the score first. With a young Alina to protect, Jamie finds herself at the top of the hit list. Rumour has it thatThe Nhang, a mythical beast that slides amongst the shadows and kills without mercy, is being released and Jamie is its prime target.
When Alina is retaken by Petrosyan’s men, Jamie will have to get her back before she can be told to the highest bidder, or involved in what appears to be an international fight club. However, there are leaks within INTERPOL and Jamie’s latest partner has been tentative to get into the mix. This forces Jamie to work with a new and equally determined Solomon Church to bring Alina back. The first order of business is to find out just how determined Petrosyan is by trying to find out his next steps, but also remain wary of those working the case. While Church and Jamie seem to trust one another, there are those on the operation who wish them to fail.
Hunting down Petrosyan and the mole within their group at the same time, Church and Jamie discover that things are not as they seem and that they will have to work quickly or face dire consequences. Racing against the clock, Jamie calls in a favour from an unexpected contact, who may be able to help, while still playing both sides. It’s a chance to capture evil at its truest form, but also runs the risk of being highly dangerous for all involved. Jamie Johansson does not stop until the job is done, even if that means putting herself in the crosshairs. A gripping thriller by Morgan Greene that has all the elements for success.
I have followed Morgan Greene on his adventures with Jamie Johansson since the beginning, never finding any reason to turn away. The stories continue to exceed my expectations by being full of action, and yet keeping a fresh look on fighting crime. The narrative of the series morphs well, depending on where Jamie finds herself and the setting seems to come into focus at just the right time. The story moves at lightning speed, though there is no sense of being disjointed, as the reader can easily follow all that is put before them. Strong writing helps this along the way with ease.
Jamie’s character development does not stop, though there is less newness here than simply trying to find the place and redefine how she works with others. The Church angle appears to work well and I quite liked his addition to the team. There is a mystery to the man, some of which is revealed within the pages of this book, though I am constantly looking for more, to peel back the mystery. Greene does well building up the suspense and providing some great development moments for all his characters in this piece.
Greene does what he enjoys, layering plot twists and series development throughout this book. Things are never too predictable, though the end game usually has some clear path. Jamie Johansson never chooses to take the easy road, which helps build the excitement and twisted nature of a thriller such as this. There is surely much more to come and I am eagerly awaiting it all, as I try to make sense of Jamie Johansson, the person and the police detective, both of whom make drastic choices every time there is a decision to be made.
Kudos, Mr. Greene, fir another great piece. I am eager to see what’s to come and how Jamie will get herself out of the next mess.
After reading the first book in The new series to feature Jamie Johansson The Last Light Of Day which was a fantastic five star read, I was champing at the bit to read the next book in this gripping, action packed series. The Mark Of The Dead carries on where the first book finished. Omg what can I say this is another action packed thrill ride. Jamie and Alina are being hunted. Jamie gets a new partner in the mean and moody Solomon Church and her nemesis from her other books is back!!!! I devoured yet another of this author's books in one sitting. Sat on the edge of my seat and tapping my kindle like a demented woodpecker. At times nail biting tension. Another fantastic five star read and So highly recommended. Thanks so much Alex .
I appreciate tf out of this author because he's capable of saying things while moving the plot along... essentially, the last Idunno, 10-15 books I read, there are parts that I legit could do without but with Morgan, he never wastes a word.
Thank you to the author for providing a early copy for an unbiased review.
The book starts 6 weeks after the previous installment and continues the case. However unlike the previous book which built the tension up slowly, it immediately puts you at the top of the rollercoster as the action commences in the first couple of chapters.
The introduction of Solomon Church, as Jamie’s partner brings a more constant dynamic as they work together through out the book whilst one of Jamie’s previous adversaries also helps.
The book it is a very enjoyable rollercoaster ride before building up & climbing up the tension before the set piece finale.
After reading the previous book on the same basis as the first time reading the author, I am looking forward to reading the next installments as well as going back to visit her previous adventures.
Again a thrilling investigation involving Jamie whom I really like as a character! Tension all way through the book making my heart beat faster with every page!!!! A lot of action, many dead and original characters (Jamie, to start with, Julia, Hassan, Solomon...and Elliott). What I also enjoy in Greene's books, is that you get to know the main characters along with the story and not too much time is spent telling us about their pasts. This would break the pace and thrill of the story. The conclusion calls for more chilling stories, and I can't wait for them! Thank you so much, Morgan, for sending me a complimentary digital ARC of Jamie's new story.
Having read all the other previous books, I couldn't wait to read the next one in the series. It's safe to say that this book didn't disappoint.
Jamie Johansson is a very complicated and intriging character and Morgan Greene has done a wonderful job of creating a series built around her life and career. Each book reveals a different side to her and it's been a pleasure following her journey. Yet again we see Jamie faced with danger and the book is full of suspense that left me unable to put it down.
In this book we see the return of Elliot Day and it's so interesting to see the dynamic in their relationship. Jamie loves and hates him at the same time and they understand each other on such a deeper level. It was great seeing him return and you're always left wondering what his next step will be.
I really enjoyed the introduction of a new character Solomon Church. He was like a breath of fresh air and the action scenes in this book are breathtaking and left me on the edge of my seat. He is a very mysterious and intriguing person and unlike any person that Jamie's met before. I just love how each character that Morgan introduces plays a different role in Jamie's life.
Twelve books in and this series still has legs. I've throughly enjoyed the progress of Jamie's character and story. This book had everything that I've come to know and love about this author, it left me wanting to read the next book straight away.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love this author’s books and I love Jamie Johansson. This is book 2 in the Jamie Johansson Files crime thriller series and I recommend reading book one first, it’s not just to get the background to this book but it’s a great read so do yourself a favour. At the end of the last book Jamie had rescued Alina from Aram Petrosyan's human trafficking operation where she was being used alongside other children in fights to the death. Jamie is such an amazing character, a loner but with a heart she tries to hide. The author has a brilliant way of writing character so you genuinely feel they are real.
Briefly, against her better judgement Jamie is working with a new partner, former SAS soldier Solomon Church, to get Alina back after Petrosyan recaptured her. But Jamie is now on the top of Petrosyan's hit list and he has employed The Nhang, a hitman who never fails, to kill her.
A gripping and fast paced thriller with high octane thrills and spills from start to finish. A book that once started I couldn’t put down and I so hope that Jamie and Solomon get together as more than just work partners - she really needs some downtime! Plenty of suspense and the odd twist and turn made this a one day read for me. Brilliant. Yes I loved it!
Previously, I have read a number of books by this author and have been able to follow the development and character of Jamie. I have not had the opportunity to read the first book in this new series, however, my previous reading of some of the other books have given me some background information. I do feel that this book could be read as a standalone however knowing some of the back story definitely helps. I previously said in other reviews for the Jamie books how I can see where relationships could be built between M W Craven's Tilly and Poe series and Jamie and Elliott. Readers who like the Tilly and Poe books will get on well with these books. I also like the way that the author continually adds layers to the characters and love the way the relationships build between Jamie, Church, Elliott and some of the other characters. There is plenty of action in the book and some scenes will have you on the edge of your seats, loving some characters and loathing others. I am already looking forward to the next book in the series coming out in February.
This is the second book in the latest instalment of the Jamie Johannson series and follows directly on from events in the first book. It's not suitable to read as a standalone for that reason.
Jamie is trying to still protect Alina from her abductors and things go quickly awry at the start of the book. Hallberg is coming more to the fore now in her role and enlists Solomon Church to assist Jamie in her quest. Both are now being targeted by a killer known as The Nhang. Cue lots of action and violence. The relationship between Jamie and Church is an intriguing one. He isn't much of a talker and this leads to some humerous moments throughout. We also have the involvement of Elliott, back to throw a spanner in the works, leading to more funny moments and a surprising reveal at the end of the book.
The story is building up nicely leading to what looks like a terrific climax in the third book. It can't come soon enough.
I got a ARC of this 2nd book, which follows on nicely from the 1st. Our hero Jamie managed to to break-up a trafficking ring, but because of that, danger follows her and you get the feeling there is a target on Jamies back. While you think all is well with Jamie and Alina, you get a wake up call. The action starts straight away, so there is no "hanging around" waiting for it to happen. I don't want to give anything away, but if you have read Morgans other books, you will know that this is top notch. The writing and follow on has a lovely smoothness to it, unlike some books which have you wondering what happened again at the end of the 1st one. This is a follow on book, so you will need to read the 1st one. I do recommend this, I was on the edge of my seat gripping my kindle cursing all and any interuptions because I needed to know what was happening. So another great book from Morgan Greene, well done for such a seamless 2nd book
I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book.
I have loved all of Morgans books so far and Jamie's latest outing did not disappoint!
The Mark of the read follows on nicely from where the last light of day finished and plunges straight in to the action with the help of a new character Solomon Church who for me is a great addition, I'm very keen to learn more about him.
We also see the return of Elliott from previous novels in this series which I was very happy to see as he is my favourite out of the Jamie series. I also really enjoyed that Hallberg was at the fore of this book too.
I would thoroughly recommend this book if you are a fan of the series and if you have read the last light of day previously I'd say it's an absolute must!
This is book 2 in the Jamie Johansson files and you need to read book one first as this carries on from the events in book one. There's no rest for Jamie , you are only a few pages in when the action starts and once it starts it doesn't let up. Jamie finds herself in the thick of things again only this time she has help from a new partner and an old friend, well a friend of sorts. Together and with the help of Julia Hallberg they continue to fight the human trafficking ring whilst trying to stay alive. This is one of those books that you have to keep reading , it's well written with non stop action and with great characters . I'm really looking forward to book 3. I was fortunate to recieve an advanced copy in return for an honest review.
I decided previously not to do a written review for books anymore. But the 2 books i have read featuring Jamie Johansson have caused me some discomfort. The first book was a little too violent for me but i was prepared to give a second chance to the author s creation. This second book was doubly violent but the story itself, the plot, was so far fetched and incredibly unlikely that i had to push myself to keep going. Eventually, i gave up. Once I start skipping over pages to avoid either violence or the ridiculous conversations between the various characters i know its time to quit. Im not even going to attempt the third instalment from this author. Just not my cup of tea.
I love this series and I could not put this book down, it was heart in your throat all the way through and the end left me anxious for the next book! I have to say that with Jamie’s constant moving around I find myself missing her previous partners and their interactions and the fact that she burns so many bridges with them makes me sad for her. Yes she makes a lot of impulsive decisions but is a good person with her heart in the right place and I would love to see her with some positive relationships and happiness. I hope Church will stay in her life. If you haven’t read any of the “Jamie” books I suggest you start right at the beginning and power through them all.
The Mark of the dead is book 2 in the Jaime Johansson files series and we dive in straight where we left on in the previous book. Jaime is yet again involved with the Human trafficking ring with the help of Julia Hallberg, and she has a new partner, but also old friend Solomon Church. They are also searching for Alina who has been retaken by Armenian Aram Petrosyan’s men and forced to fight for her life. This is another full action-packed story from Morgan Greene. It flowed seamlessly and has well developed characterisation. And it gripped me though out. I really enjoyed this, especially the hotel scene. I could really picture it on screen. I highly recommend. 5 stars from me.
Last night Morgan Greene kept me awake again till well past the witching hour. His books are just too damn good. It's impossible to put one down until the very last word. And somehow he continues to get better and better. His literary talents know no boundaries. You have to read this book to even begin to understand how fast-paced and tense it is. I don't have the words to recommend it as highly as I would like. Jamie is, of course, a star. Nothing stops her and she is well-used to breaking all the rules. Now there's a new guy to watch - Solomon Church - and already I love him. What a combination! Every crime and thriller reader in the world should have this book on their shelves.
If you love a fast paced investigative crime thriller, this book is one you need!
I absolutely love the Jamie Johannason series and this book did not disappoint!
Within a few chapters you're straight into the action and it continues throughout the book with every chapter keeping you on your toes!
Something about Morgans writing style just keeps me hooked throughout the book!
You can read this as a standalone but it will make more sense reading the others beforehand as there is mention of previous characters and storylines (and trust me, they're all worth a read!!)
What we have in this story is a huge network of people wanting to watch children fight each other until the death of one of the contestants, in this case Alina was the one Jamie had rescued but she was stolen by The Nhang while she was with a new guardian called Solomon Church. The Armenians were responsible for the fighting operations led by Petrosyan. Here's where Elliot comes in to replace the Surgeon who Church had killed. The story continues and you wonder how Jamie fights to get Alina back with at twist. Read it for yourself, Morgan Greene is at his best.
The second book in the Jamie Johansson series & it continues directly on from the first.
I don’t want to say too much as, if you haven’t read the first, spoilers. Basically, Jamie has a new partner but also finds herself top of a hitman’s list.
A fast paced, gritty thriller with twists & violence aplenty. I can’t wait to read book 3 to see what scrapes our kick-ass heroine gets herself in next time. Fabulous.
I was honoured to obtain an arc of this and it did not disappoint. Once again taken on a fast frantic journey with Jamie and those who help her or stand in her way. No spoilers, but nice to see some old faces, and some new. Never a boring minute when you’re in the world of Jamie Johansson and I can’t wait for the next instalment. Morgan Greene does it again.
Morgan Greene’s latest insight into the mind of Jamie Johansson is inspired. The book had me gripped all the way through and I am beginning to really connect with Jamie’s story. What a book. What a series!!
a really intense read! Fighting for their lives this story has lots of twists and turns, murder and mayhem. Lots of action, complex characters and mind boggling events. A riveting story that keeps you glued to the pages! I could not put this book down! A real page turner and a must read!
I could not put this book down, some very late nights/early mornings reading. Jamie is such a fantastic character. I can't wait to see what happens next in this adventure. Highly recommend this and all the other Jamie Johansson books.
This book was non stop action and thrills. Trying to figure out all the pieces and seeing Jaime see herself a little differently was a great spin in this book.
Loved this book . The story material is a difficult subject to read, but Greene doesn't exploit this, using the characters to invest you in the story. A definite must read.
I’ve read all of Morgan Greene’s books and loved them all, however this one was the best of all, l couldn’t put it down and I read it in record time.I canna wait for the next one
