Three months ago, Charmaine Grimes lost everything. After all she endured, Charmaine tries to hold onto her grief and mask her pain for the world to see, but enemies are still at large.
As Dalton Saphirrus continues to put off his impending coronation, he is confronted with the realities of politics and obligations in New Sarridolon. Stuck in a marriage contract he did not consent to, Dalton faces political blocks at every corner. The power of snow that lives within him has caused a physical change. As foes gather in the shadows of the continent, Dalton is forced to confront whether the weight of the crown is too much to bear.
The second installment of The Prince of Snow series, The King of Flames is a testament to true love, the limits of power, and the lengths one will go to keep all that they hold dear from falling apart.
The King of Flames is inspired by the legends of King Arthur. It is perfect for the fans of BBC’s Merlin, Victoria Aveyard’s Glass Sword, Brigid Kemmerer’s Defy the Night, and the CW’s Reign.

This book tested me like no other project had. The characters were loud and their stories demanded to be told the way that THEY demanded. This book taught me a lot about what it means to persevere, but also what it means to heal. I can’t wait for you all to follow Dalton, Randolph, Charmaine, Elena, and Lawton’s story into their next chapter. 🤍✨🧊⚔️🐉🔥
I would first like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a glorious book this was. After the tumultuous ending of book one, I couldn’t even fathom how the story would continue in THE KING OF FLAMES, but let me tell you, L. B. Divine DELIVERED!
The main thing I love about this series, aside from the beautiful writing, is the array of characters, and moreover, their emotional complexity and dynamics. I love all the interconnected relationships between them all; it really shines through the series, and this book was no exception.
So much happened in this book, and I’m so happy with how it all evolved. Sequels are really tricky. You have a lot of plot pieces to move around, lots of sequences to manage, but the author did such a fantastic job of bringing the story forward and developing the characters.
First off I'd like to thank Liz for giving me the opportunity to be on her arc team. I appreciate you so much and I'm so thankful that you have given me the opportunity to be part of your beautiful world. I cannot get over how beautifully written this book is and I wish I could binge the whole series now. "The King of Flames" by L.B Divine is a captivating journey through a world where power & magic collide in a blaze of epic storytelling. This fantasy novel immerses readers in a richly detailed realm of political intrigue , drama, and of course a love story.
At the heart of the story is Dalton Sapphirus and Charmaine Grimes. Following the death of his father at the end of The Prince of Snow Dalton is appointed King. Dalton is an extremely intriguing and complex character who bears the weight of his kingdom on his shoulders. Dalton is in a constant struggle with how he thinks he should be acting as a King and what his heart truly wants. Dalton is such an intriguing and complex character that hides behind a wall of sarcasm and charisma. I found myself wanting to jump in this story to give Dalton a good smack. Charmaine is a girl who has come from nothing. Throughout the book she is reeling from the death of her brother. I loved seeing Charmaine's healing journey throughout the book and Liz did an amazing job depicting Charmaine's grief. Charmaine is such a relatable character and I loved how real she was. I feel like oftentimes in books grief isn't depicted accurately and Liz did an amazing job depicting it.
I loved the first book, “The Prince of Snow” but the writing and world-building in "The King of Flames" is nothing short of exceptional. Liz has meticulously crafted a universe teeming with magic, and a rich history that rivals some of the best in the fantasy genre. I love seeing how her writing has grown from one book to the next and I can't wait to see how far it goes. I loved all the characters in this story, especially the side characters. I feel like oftentimes side characters can be dull or predictable but the side characters in this story are so well written that I was finding myself wishing I had a book for each of their back stories.
In conclusion, "The King of Flames" is a compelling addition to the fantasy genre, with its rich world-building, morally complex characters, and thought-provoking themes. Liz has created a tale that will ignite the imaginations of readers, leaving them eagerly anticipating the next installment in this promising series. If you enjoy epic fantasies with well-crafted magic systems and intricate character dynamics, "The King of Flames" is a book that should not be missed.

I'm so happy to have read this book. It really shows growth from book 1 to book 2 and that gets me all excited! The characters have more depth and connection. I love how relationships are evolving and becoming more complex. There is also more action which helps the pacing more which I felt struggled in book 1.
Overall, lots of improvements and I am even more invested in the story! Also, the author has a knack for endings because shewwww. We were really left with that cliff!
I can't form a thought right now aside from OMG THIS SERIES HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD. I cannot stop thinking about this story, these characters, and just every little bit of these books. I'll be back to properly do this but until then, please read these books.
Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. Like always, this review is voluntary + honest.
The amount of love I have for this upper YA series + its books + characters is never-ending! I had said the reading the first book was like being wrapped up in a warm blanket + being enveloped in a big hug & I stand by that! Reading this second book, I felt the feeling of coming home & it felt SO GOOD. Also, that ending? I am ready for whatever is to come in book 3 & I cannot wait to have it in my hands to be able to dive back in into this world that gives me comfort (even though things in this book ended up stressful 😰.)
L.B. Divine has a way of developing characters & relationships in such a real & genuine way that you cannot help but feel like you are going on this ride alongside them & feel every single emotion they're experiencing. Every conflict, joy, heartbreak, every moment where they're feeling so much weight on their shoulders. You cannot help but be fully invested in their story + growth!
This book was definitely focused more on character development, which I LOVED. The plot itself for this book was medium paced, but definitely picked up in the last few chapters. The pace for the development for the characters was also medium paced, which allowed the character growth to flow perfectly. The way the author developed multiple characters in various ways & also so in depth was truly amazing!
Charmaine, we started off with the aftermath from the ending of book one. The amount of pain & grief she was experiencing was palpable & yet one thing I loved about Charmaine is that even of her dullest of moments, the light inside of her never fully gave out. Her journey of healing & becoming a version of herself she knew her loved ones would be proud of was so heartwarming to see. Charmaine is a character that is so bright, in a way that she induces happiness. She always tries to be there for others, carry their burdens with them, even if she has her own to carry as well. She has such a kind heart that you can't help but want to protect her at all costs.
DALTON, MY BABY. He is chaos incarnate. And Dalton as a King? Poor Cyril did not have any breaks trying to keep up with him & helping Dalton find out the type of King he wanted to be. He is still the mischievous Dalton we met in book one, except this Dalton is moving past the pain from his past caused by his father + is embracing his new role as the leader of the first kingdom. Although while doing so, he is putting his wants + desires aside, not allowing himself to have them. He is selfless + wholly good, always putting those he loves before himself. But he's not good at allowing others to help him carry his burdens & troubles, regardless of how much he may need it.
Randolph! I went from being unsure about him but liking him in book 1 to ADORING HIM IN THIS BOOK. His past was not an easy one & him walking away from who he used to be was necessary... at the time. Seeing him become more emotionally open, while also bonding with the other part of himself he kept closed off & hidden was BEAUTIFUL. It was such a key piece of himself he needed to fully become one with to be able to accept the role he was always meant to step into. I cannot wait to see more of his growth in book 3!
So many other characters I have come to love like Elena (her strength is admirable & she is so graceful while also being fierce when she needs to be) and Lawton (another chaotic character, who can also be an absolute menace at times & yet we love him for it). New characters are introduced that already have me loving them + also screaming & rooting for them. Cyril is still such a King & we will stan him FOREVER.
I truly recommend this book + series + hope you fall in love with this world like I have. Also, LIVE LAUGH LOVE DALTON SAPHIRRUS. 👑🩵
2.5⭐️ - Thank you to the author for gifting me a free E-Copy of this book awhile back.
To start off this review I want to say that I had already not loved the first book. However, I decided to continue the series since I already had a copy of the second book.
This book took me months to read and honestly I don’t really remember the first half of it. But I hate DNFs so I was determined to finish it. For the first 60% of the book it just felt like a lot of filler scenes and didn’t expand on the plot of the first book as much as I would have hoped. On top of this I still did not feel any connection with the characters and there are so many I really have a hard time keeping them all straight. Especially because this book is multi-pov in 3rd person. Sometimes it switches over mid chapter with only a small break as a warning and it takes a few minutes to comprehend who’s perspective you are reading from.
Once again this book is also marketed a lot to have romance but it’s not really there. Like up until this end of this book the romance was nonexistent to me. It’s especially disappointed because it’s marketed to be similar to the tv show, Reign, which is my all time favorite however it doesn’t give off the vibes at all.
I will give the author credit though that by the time I got like 75% through the plot started to pick up and become more interesting. The characters were finally forming bonds which made them more likable and romance was actually blooming. It was especially the last 4-5 chapters that redeemed this book slightly to me as I enjoyed what the plot was heading towards. Unfortunately though, I still didn’t enjoy a majority of the book and found most of it to be dreadfully boring. If it weren’t for that last part, I probably would’ve rated this book lower than the first.
At the end of the day I think the concept of this series is great. However, the way it was executed just wasn’t enjoyable for me. I think it’s obviously safe to say this series and author does not fit my taste or interest. I will not be reading the third book of the series and will instead probably just look up a summary for the small parts I’m interested in.
Once again thank you to the author for gifting me book 1 and 2 of this series. This one wasn’t really for me but I hope others enjoy it more if they give it a go.
5 glorious stars for this stunning sequel🤩 If you don’t know “The King of Flames” is the sequel to the stunning book “The Prince of Snow”, which I highly recommend to any lover of fantasy, adventure, & romance🥰
The King of Flames was everything the Prince of Snow was & more—even better. The plot thickened & twisted so much to where you as the reader couldn’t keep up even if you wanted to. The storytelling & plot points were amazing, the relationships & friendships are built upon, tested, & pushed to their breaking points all the way up to a breathtaking finale that will have you crying, yelling, & threatening to throw the book against the wall. It’s one of THOSE ends.
Liz delivered a beautiful sequel & expanded this world in a way that didn’t overwhelm but never underwhelmed you either. There’s new characters, there’s banter, theres jokes, there’s amazing friendships, & the romance in this book is to die for😍
This book also touched on grief & how it’s not linear, & let me just say that the way Liz handled that topic is something to be commended for, this book had me in tears because of it🥺
I said in my review of The Prince of Snow on my Instagram account (@abundance.of.my.heart) that Liz’s writing style was lyrical & poetic. Let me just say her writing is that & more in this one. I highlighted so many quotes I’m not sure how I’ll decide which ones to use for my posts. So get ready for a whole span of posts revolving around this book, this world, & these characters🤍✨
I am so overwhelmed & thankful that I was given an ARC of this book, so I just wanted to take a minute and say thank you🥺🤍 The King of Flames comes out October 10th, 2023 & you don’t want to miss it🔥🔥🔥🔥
& I’ll be dying until I get my hands on the 3rd book that is for sure😭
Wow, I just finished this ARC and I have to say, the characters and this world has me completely hooked. I’m going to try my best to make this review spoiler free for both TPOS and TKOF. This was a bit of a change in pace from book 1, where TPOS was fast paced and action packed, TKOF has a fabulously twisty plot that really gave me the opportunity to connect with each character individually and get to know them more in-depth.
I loved the emotion, TKOF does not shy away from showing us the full emotional impact the events from book 1 had on each character and how they each have coped with grief and loss. My goodness it made me FEEL. I absolutely loved getting to see the softer more emotional side of Randolph. I loved getting to see a more vulnerable Elena. Lawton has me completely charmed and full of such mystery I cannot wait to watch his story develop further. Our leading Lady Charmaine goes through such an emotional rollercoaster it was heartbreaking but heartwarming to see her personal growth and learn more about her past. Last but not least, Dalton! Oh that tortured, charming, brilliant man, I loved getting to know him on a deeper level in this book and watching how he juggles and balances everything life is throwing at him, both physically and emotionally. This book was a multi POV, emotional, soothing, found family, cathartic, mysterious, intriguing, adventure, It left me needing more and even more in love with this world than I was before. The ending had me both in a state of heartbreak and then smirking at the last line as I closed my kindle knowing I’ll need to buckle up for book 3 because it’s going to be EPIC.
OH MY FREAKING WORD!!!!! COMING BACK TO REVIEW WHEN I STOP REELING FROM THAT ENDING!
"There is not necessarily finality in death."
"Destiny is a funny thing; it does not ask permission before taking hold of you, nor does it let you in on all of the keen details."
"I wish to be here for you, not just as you work through the shattering, but as you work to pick up the pieces and put them back together."
Fire could be beautiful, if wielded with grace instead of force.
"I will merely have to burn down the world."
I'M SCREAMING!!!!!!! first of all, the beautifully executed foreshadowing in this book has blown me away. Lines and phrases I underlined simply because I was enjoying Divine's prose, came back with a stunning vengeance. The amount of groundwork laid to punctuate each reveal is astounding and truly a credit to Divine's storytelling prowess.
The King of Flames is an impeccably written royal court intrigue and political fantasy carried by beloved characters you'll fall even harder for. I'll be honest, every time Randolph appeared on page, I was grinning like a lovesick fool and drawing hearts around his name.
Magic, family both found and by blood, political alliances, secrets, and destiny fuel this exciting sequel to The Prince of Snow. I inhaled this book and now I'm at a loss for what to do with myself. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THAT ENDING LEFT ME SCREAMING!
Another brilliant story by L.B. Divine solidifying her place as an autobuy author for me!!!!
The King of Flames…WOW. Where do I start? Should it be a quote that continues to rattle around my skull? Or should it be my adoration for Dalton and his chaotic energy? Or should it be about Randolph or Charmaine?
This book is a gorgeous and enthralling blend of magic, devastation, slow burn (the kind where the characters are like, “We shouldn’t” but ultimately do) and hidden foes with shadowy personas…if you know you know.
Thank you to L. B Divine for the opportunity to ARC this book, it’s been amazing. The twists, the characters and the world…AH! For someone who doesn’t read YA often, you’ve truly done something special with this book for me to want to write a dozen praises for TKOF.
One quote hangs with me, even after I’ve finished with the story. One of fury, of fire and finality: “They will pray for me to shatter their souls once I turn them to ice.”
Ah…we love a vengeful promise. I cannot wait for book three and to see the might of a frosty promise come to fruition🤍❄️
🌟 Book Review 🌟 ▪︎ Name: The King of Flames ▪︎ Author: LB Divine ▪︎ Genre: Romantasy YA ▪︎ Rating: 4.25 ⭐️ . . . 🌟 Thoughts 🌟 This Romantasy will be releasing in Oct.10 and is the sequel to The King of Snow! Definitely read TKOS before reading TKOF. I smell that there will be a book 3 so I am excited for it hehehe. Wow, the character development from book 1 to book 2 is definitely there and that was one of my favorite parts. The character growth as well as the depth of the friendship among the characters really warmed my heart because through all the sufferings these characters endured, the friendship didn't diminish. The magic in this book was also great and something about white hair characters just ugh chefs kisssssss 💞🤭. The pacing of this book was more on the medium paced and this book is YA so no spice but chemistry is strong! This book was more impactful in the emotions side so be ready for that! . . . 🌟 Appreciation 🌟 Thank you LB Divine for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I’m going to try and keep this review spoiler free and not give away anything that happened in The Prince of Snow. This book had all the royalty and political aspects I was hoping for, that I so enjoyed in book 1. I absolutely love the characters (Dalton 🙌🏻) and their growth from the first book as well their dynamics with each other was my favorite aspect. The magical world Divine has created is what ya fantasy is all about, and I definitely recommend this series for any romantasy lover!
Thank you so much to the author for my review copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own!
This gem. This freaking gem. Wow wow wow. It was such a pleasure to reunite with these characters. This sequel explores such character development especially with their grief and trials caused by the events of the first book’s ending. The King of Flames dives deeper into who each of these characters are as they navigate their suffering while persevering through the events that are happening in their world. Dalton with his charisma and wit (he made me laugh I can’t with him he’s so pretty) and Randolph (I’m obsessed with him, my damaged beautiful man). And the women, Charmaine and Elena - wow their strength and power is all consuming. My heart went out to them, I cried for them, my beauties have gone through so much but to see how they are rising is just admirable. We also have the opportunity to meet new characters and see more of this dazzling, magical world.
The ending had me reeling, the reveals and twists - I need book 3 is all I need to say.
This was the perfect sequel to The Prince of Snow. I’m so happy you didn’t give up on this, L.B.
The world-building in this book was exquisite. Not only did it surpass my expectations, but it was flawless and so easy not to get lost in the magic of it all.
Going on this journey of change and grief in both Dalton and Charmaine’s lives was beautiful. The way L.B. handled such a heavy theme with such depth and grace is astounding. Together, Dalton and Charmaine grew as individuals and their chemistry was so notable.
I was at the edge of my seat because the plot was PLOTTING and the ending took me for a SPIN.
If you’re looking for a series that is whimsical, yet cozy, character-driven, and emotional, this is for you!
So many thoughts after that whirlwind ending! Here’s what I’ll say though:
This series is written with magic and whimsy. It has a cozy fantasy feel that reminds me of so many beloved books, but it’s not the cozy genre necessarily. It’s just comforting.
In addition to that, though, it portrays such deep emotions. This second book is character driven at its finest with a big focus on grief from the events of book one, the feeling of being crushed by your responsibilities, and embracing who you are. The author does such a good job of making these emotions real and relatable.
I loved seeing all of the characters progress on their journeys and am especially intrigued by some certain new characters who showed up. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I enjoyed the first book (Prince of Snow) so ofc I jumped in to read KoF early! Personally I think this book breathe a little different than the first one. TKoF is more heavy on politics than TPoS (which I think is more character introducing and leaning toward power explanation etc), but it's just as good! I actually like Randolph more in this 2nd book although still team Dalton all the way lol. I enjoyed the court politics and new characters introduced! THAT ENDING ughhhh. Can't wait for book 3!
Ugh love this story. Elana and James should've gotten to be together. Wanted to say that I'm the first book but didn't want to spoil anything. But that whole situationade my heart hurt! I wish the romance was more the star of the show just for my own little romantic heart. But I love the friendships that are built in this book, I love Dalton, I love Rand, I love them all! The conflict and world built is really great. I can't wait for the third to come out I really don't know what direction it's going to go in the end but I know it's going to be good.
This YA fantasy series has major Reign vibes meets the classic YA fantasy books we grew up reading.
LB packed so much emotion into this book, you can’t help but feel for the characters. This sequel was so well crafted and thought out — from the world-building to the character relationships to the court intrigue and to the beautiful writing. And that ending??? I cannot wait to see what comes next!
This is an excellent follow-up to the Prince of Snow! This book delves deeper into the characters and their relationships. It introduces new characters that will make an impact later in the series as well as some plot twists along the way. Most of the book focuses on the last parts of PoS and it's impact on each character, the grief and burden of new titles and duty. Overall a good read and easy world to fall into!
HOLY HECK. This book. I genuinely loved the first book and I think I might love this one even more just because of the way she wrote the plot out because my gosh my anxiety was up there 😂. Dalton and Char and all the other characters really pulled me in this book too! If you love Fantasy or Upper YA Fantasy Romance, this one is for you!!
This book came out in a time I was mentally not in the best place but when I got an arc from L.B I got taken away in a world with so much love and so many amazing characters I could fogret everything else. This book has a special place in my heart (just like book 1!) And I will for sure read anything L.B writes.
LB Divine is truly a gift for giving us our sweet little broken boy Dalton Saphirrus. Any time I get with him, Charmaine, Elena, and Randolph makes me so happy. And I cannot forget my main man Cyril, the saint of a man trying to keep the kids in line.
The second book in The Prince of Snow series picked up right where we left off in book one, and did not quit for almost 350 pages. The angst, the grief and healing, THE PINING - it was all so good. The ending had my jaw just about on the floor, and I cannot wait to see where Liz takes us in the next book.
Wow, just wow. L.B. Divine has me speechless again. While the Prince of Snow was an amazing book, The King of Flames takes your breath away. Your heart will pound with anticipation, fear, and most importantly, love.
Influenced by the legends of King Arthur, The King of Flames is told through multiple perspectives. Through details, layers of complexity are woven together to create the terror that is the looming over the First Kingdom. What answers are held in the Seventh Kingdom?
Something tells me book three will make me sob, laugh, and most importantly, finally know if Char and Dalton end up together! If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend it.
