Mafia Wars Ireland #2

Illicit Captor

Rate this book
He kidnapped me for vengeance against my husband.

The husband I’ve never loved.

The cruel man my father forced me to marry to teach me a lesson.

My husband didn’t think twice about how to carry out those lessons.

Now, I’ve gone from one prison to another.

My captor is just as ruthless as my husband. He’ll kill, torture, and do everything to hurt my family until no one is left.

Except for me.

Aidan’s made it clear he’s keeping me as his trophy.

And the more I understand his twisted thoughts and crave his heated gaze, the deeper I drown in our world.

It’s where everything that shouldn’t happen does—the place that defies all laws and rules—the one where guilt reigns and you still can’t help but want what you shouldn’t.

Illicit Captor is book two of Mafia Wars Ireland. It’s a kidnapping romance with forbidden-love, enemies-to-lovers, forced-proximity, age-gap, and dark mafia themes. For mature audiences only.

Would Ya Rather?

Aidan O'Connor is a stubborn... mule. Impossibly so. He's infuriating, a bit nutso, and just... ugh. There, I said it. I feel better getting that off my chest.

The first half of the book, I swear, I wanted to do mean things to that man-child. Thankfully, with time and a lot of patience, he grew on me... like a bad rash. 😂 Fine, I came to really like him.

When it comes to Scarlet O'Leary Ahern, even at her brattiest, she's still pretty reserved. The little known and inferred details just make me want to hug her. I like that she comes out of it with a better sense of appreciation for the things in her life.

I figured she'd be a handful once she realized she's safe, but Scarlet's a bit more than I anticipated—in all the ways I don't need her to be.
-- Aidan O'Connor

One of my favorite parts of this story were the interactions between Tully and Scarlet. I could've read a whole book on just the two of them going back and forth. It's as endearing as it is entertaining. Of course, now I want to see her find that someone and read Tully's second chance. Book 5, perhaps? 🤔

I'm not sure if I'm happy or disappointed that Maggie shied away from the darker details of Scarlet's time as Tommy's prisoner/wife. I honestly feel a little of both, as strange as that may seem. There's violence and a bit of gore, but this was tamer than I expected in that regard.

Author's comments:
This is a dark mafia romance. The heroine has experienced sexual abuse, kidnapping, and other horrific things. While it's not depicted in detail, it may trigger survivors. Mature audiences only.

You've been warned. 💀

Maggie Cole Mafia Wars Ireland bk 02 Illicit Captor

The more I read or listen to this book, the more Aiden grows on me. I was in the fence for a bit, but I've come around.

When it comes to Scarlet, my heart broke for her. She and Alaina were dealt a crappy hand when it came to family, but blood isn't what makes family. That's something that they've both learned.

Tully continues to earn respect with the way he's bonded with both women, but especially Scarlet. I really love the relationship that grows between them.

The narrators are Wen Ross and Ava Lucas. I've enjoyed both in the past and continued to in this reading. The accents dropped occasionally, but still good performances.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: captive, revenge
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥.5

Aidan O'Connor kidnaps Scarlet Ahern to get revenge on both her husband and her father, who is his family's biggest enemy. But nothing could have prepared him for the state he finds her in. Scarlett has been starved, abused, and tortured and while he should hate her, she brings out all the protective instincts he never knew he had.

Illicit Captor is a great forced proximity/captive trope read. You can't help but love when the (anti)hero's evil plan is foiled by his own pesky emotions, lol. This was a bit more angsty than I was expecting with lots of high emotions from both the FMC and the MMC. Scarlet has quite the emotional journey to regain the sense of self she lost from her (soon to be) ex as well as the change in dynamics with her sister. Aiden is super sweet and caring with her right from the beginning and they had tons of fantastic chemistry. Illicit Captor wasn't super fast paced, but it's a solid read that I would definitely recommend as part of the Mafia Wars Ireland world. I can't wait to see what trouble Devin gets into!

This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review.

Introduction
Illicit Captor is the second book in the "Mafia Wars Ireland" series and this series is connected to her other Mafia Wars books so I do recommend reading those if you can before reading these here. Illicit Captor was NOT the book that I was expecting, and I was delightfully surprised it wasn't as inner relationship angsty as I was expecting. This story was so endearing and heartfelt in both aspects as I was hoping for and in moments I never expected and all the laughs that was evoked within this story was brilliantly conveyed. If you are a fan of this author, you will absolutely LOVE everything about Illicit Captor.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Aidan
Second to Brody in the command structure, but goes his own path for vengeance. He has a strong sense of forging his own ways, but respects family above all else but has a attentive caring side for those he loves.

The Heroine: Scarlet
She is the baby sister to the heroine from book one, forced into a marriage against her consent, abused and treated like a prisoner by her husband. Once full of life, now reduced to a fraction of who she used to be.

Summary
Aidan is determined to get his revenge and he plans on doing it by kidnapping his wife, who also happens to be the sister of Alaina. But when he finds her, its worse than he could have ever imagined and brings Scarlet to a house hidden away in the countryside, where he provides safety and cover from her husband and the man he is hunting. But through exchanging her prison, Scarlet sees a big difference that while Aidan is controlling, he cares for her and is kind in a way she has never experienced from anyone apart from her sister. But through a turn of events, they will have to face their families and find common ground before their enemy gets the justice he deserves...

My Outlook
Illicit Captor was simply delightful! I absolutely loved everything about this one here. It was everything that the first book wasn't. It just had the most endearing characters and from the beginning I was invested in their story from their first meeting and I just wanted to cheer these two on. And loved every step of the way that we see them work through and the challenges that they work on overcoming together as a team. I really adored how that even though the heroine, Scarlet, has been abused, she still has fire within her and seeing her come back into herself in the safe haven that Aidan provides, was a sight to witness. The relationship that develops between Aidan and Scarlet was delectable and their chemistry was just right for them. And seriously I thought Alaina was worse in this one than the first book. And I found it badass in that Scarlet was able to keep her sister in line when she needed someone firm that could stand up to her. And is there a romance that could happen with the Dad???? Like serioiusly I need that story to be told.

Overall View
I found Illicit Captor to be a wonderful win of a read, Maggie Cole definitely works her magic within Aidan's story and left us with a bit of a twist for the serial plot that I am intrigued by. August just can't come fast enough. Illicit Captor is a story that won my heart and kept me entertained from beginning to end.

Illicit Captor is one of the best forced proximity romance books that I have read in a long time. Maggie Cole takes Aiden and Scarlet through a journey of what it means to learn to trust again. This is Mafia Romance done right and will leave you wanting more. Scarlet is a feisty FMC that is shown there is more to a man than being forced into a marriage and held prisoner. Aiden is the man who is going to show his Petal that a real man never allows his woman to do anything she doesn't want and her voice matters.

Please Note as readers there is light TW that the author notes in the book.

I am counting down to the next book in the Ireland series.

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. It’s the second book in the Mafia Wars Ireland series. This is Aidan and Scarlets story. Scarlet is an O’Leary who was forced into marriage with a tyrant who kept her prisoner and starved her to near death. Aidan is an O’Connor who rescues her. His intentions were to use her to kill her husband but after he seen what she was like his fury towards her husband and her family escalates but he falls head over heels for her. He keeps her away from her sister, his sister in law, as he knows everything will change once they go back but fate has other ideas. It’s a true love story where the heroine is stronger than her family thought. And love wins in the end. Looking forward to the next instalment.

The O'Connor brothers just keep getting better. Aidan and Scarlet have a story filled with hurt, pain, suffering, healing, and love. It was so wonderful and sweet to see Aidan be able to help Scarlet heal and find herself again after everything that she suffered at the hands of her Da and Tommy(her husband). Be prepared for all the feels with this book. Aidan is protective and all the dirty talking alpha male you could hope for when it comes to men in the Mafia. I absolutely loved seeing Scarlet become powerful in her own right. She begins to stand up for herself and heal from all the trauma at the hands of others. But she is also able to fall in love and allows Aidan to love her. I loved Aidan and Scarlets story. I can't wait to see what Devin has in store for us next in Illicit Heir.

I have been waiting for Aidan's story and it was worth it. His and Scarlet's story is a pretty fast-paced one so I read it pretty quick. However, that's a con because I didn't want their story to end. I just loved watching Aidan love on and care for Scarlet in his own way. Though I did not appreciate how much Scarlet's sister, Alaina interfere with their relationship. I didn't know she was that annoying because I loved her in her own book. But nah, she's almost an antagonist herself. I'm like, let them be! I feel like that's the only flaw in this book. The rest, amazing as always.

Book two in Mafia Wars Ireland, starts with Aiden rescuing Scarlett from her tyrant husband, and he's fueled on getting revenge by killing him for how he treated Scarlett and the rest of his sins.

Aiden is the perfect Alpha Male. He's full of "fire" and rage, but also nurturing and kind. possessive and protective all in one (so swoon worthy).

Scarlett is the perfect heroine, starting off scared, timid, and frail. But once she regains her health, she becomes this spitfire that stands up for herself and fights for her love for Aiden.

Their chemistry is like no other and the love they find for each other is heartwarming.

The passion, compassion, love and dedication they have towards each other, and their family makes this a page turner. But that is nothing new for a book by Maggie Cole, you're always hooked from the beginning to the HEA.

Can't wait for Devin's story with Illicit Heir.

Hmmm. Not for me. I love mafia, but I wasn't a fan of the writing style and the short, spaced out paragraphs that were mostly all snappy dialogue. DNF. Sorry.

Book two in the Mafia wars Ireland series, Aidan and Scarlett story.
after reading the Prologue and the end of book one i was excited to read Aidan story.
I enjoyed it but i felt like it was similar in story to Mafia New York.

Don’t get me wrong Aidan character is good and the way him and Scarlett are with each other the chemistry these two have is off the chart.

I have one pick the conclusion to Tommy that was a bit weak for me, I love Maggie writing and it make me sad i didn’t like as much as the others.

Tropes: dark mafia romance, age gap, touch her & Die, captive romance, forbidden love, enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity

Aidan O'Connor kidnapped Scarlett to avenge her husband, Tommy. He was a cruel man that her father forced her to marry in order to teach her a lesson. Tommy didn't think twice about how to carry out those lessons. Now, she's gone from one prison to another. Her captor is just as ruthless as her husband. Every since finishing Illicit King, I've been looking forward to this story, and the author didn't disappoint. Aidan was focused on revenge and could never have foretold how his life would change upon meeting Scarlett. She's just as strong as her sister, and Aidan becomes just as devoted as his brother did. It was an emotional journey for both characters. They had palpable chemistry set within an addictive plot. I didn't want to put my Kindle down for any amount of time. So far, this series is shaping up quite nicely, and I was definitely entertained. I highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

✨Review✨
Illicit captor - Maggie Cole
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

This book follows Aiden and Scarlett. They are from rival mafia families. Aiden captures her to get back at her husband.

Scarlett is being abused by her husband when Aiden captures her. She was forced to marry him. I really loved how gentle Aiden was with her and let her work out trauma.

"Women forced to marry men they don't want and who abuse them aren't obligated to keep vows, and if I have to tell ya that 5,000 times, I will."

Aiden is misunderstood and feels judgment from others so when Scarlett just gives him understanding it changes everything. He is also so protective of Scarlett and is obsessed with keeping her safe.

"You're beautiful, petal. This size, ten sizes bigger, whatever. Do ya understand?"

I really did like this book but I felt like it was just too repetitive. Scarlett was also meek at the beginning but I did like that she stood up for herself in the end

Aidens dad is one of my favourite characters of the series, a big mafia boss with the biggest heart😍

✨Mafia
✨Captor
✨Abused FMC
✨Protective MMC

Illicit Captor is the second book in the Mafia Wars Ireland series and tells the story of second brother, Aidan O’Connor, and Scarlet O’Leary, daughter of the O’Connor family’s archenemy. Another great instalment in this fabulous series!! The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat and emotionally invested.

Maggie Cole writes really good background stories for the characters in her books and as usual I spent today enjoying reading Aidan’s storyline as well as catching up with the rest of the characters from previous books which is always a bonus. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading dark Mafia romance. I’m always excited about the next instalment in the series which is Devin’s story. Can’t wait!!.

So I’m so happy I got to read the next instalment of this series Brody and Alaina story was so good I didn’t put it down until I’d finished it!
So Aidan and Scarlett story starts off with him rescuing her from a man her father had forced her to marry.
Tommy has been mistreating her and has starved Scarlett.
Aidan takes Scarlett who is Alainas sister and nurses her back to health while the two of them are forced to be together the chemistry is so strong that they form a connection, Aidan swears he will get Tommy. For what he’s done and Scarlett and him will be together. This one has to be my favourite out of the two I loved Aidan so much. It was a gripping story to read and I loved every page. The O’Connors are a force to be reckoned with.

ARC REVIEW- Illicit Captor by Maggie Cole
Illicit Captor is filled with so many twists, turns, drama, angst, dark elements, secrets, revelations, things going sideways, all the feels, and so much more. Readers will not be able to put this book down. Maggie Cole has quickly been added to my favorite author’s list. I am still fairly new to reading Maggie’s books but haven’t found one that I have not loved reading. I can’t wait for Illicit Heir. The Mafia Wars series all about warring clans has lots of sparks and heat. I highly recommend Illicit Captor, Mafia Wars Ireland, and Maggie Cole as an author. I have not read the Mafia Wars yet but plan on starting while I wait for Illicit Heir. As much as I am enjoying Mafia Wars Ireland I know I will enjoy that series too. Happy Reading!!

Good lord what a series this is shaping up to be! Ok first, I was wondering if anyone else read this with Tommy (Cillian Murphy) from Peaky Blinders' voice? No, just me, ok just checking. Maybe it's because I did watch that series that I feel like this is a play on that show but modern times and ten times hotter. I'm not gonna lie, this is not an easy peasy read, this is nitty gritty, dark and dangerous. I loved every single minute of Aiden and Scarlet's journey and I'm ready for more! I give this 5 stars.

This book picks up right after Illicit King. And while this is a standalone, book one really needs to be read first in order to really know what is going on fully in this book. We knew from the end of the last book that Aidan was going to rescue Scarlet. And while there isn’t a lot of action in this book, its emotional and intense while both Scarlet and Aidan navigate the post rescue phase. They are forbidden in a lot of sense that he is her ‘captor’, that she is married, and his sister in law’s sister. They have to overcome so many hurdle to make this love work out and seem to never be able to catch a break. It was so nice to see Brody and Alaina again since they make a lot of appearances in this book. This is the perfect companion book to book one and can only imagine the next will just keep getting better.

What a page turner by Maggie Cole! She has done it again. Illicit Captor is the 2nd book in the Mafia Wars Ireland series. This story is Aiden and Scarlett's story. This book has you captivated and on the edge of your seat from the start. Even though their families are at war can Aiden take and save Scarlett? This book is fire and you won't want to put it down. Absolutely love! Wish I could read about these guys all the time. This is Aiden & Scarlet’s story and loved it! Love how Scarlet stands up for herself. Gotta love a lady with a backbone. I do not like Alaina. To go through what she has, you would think she would be a little more understanding but she’s let power go to her head and she’s a straight up B!€<#.
Love how Aiden & Scarlet hold on through everything and fight for each other. Fabulous book!!! Ready for more!!

Illicit Captor is the second book in the Marua Wars Ireland. Adian and Scarlett’s story is one you do not want to miss! Aidan O’Connor is fiercely protective and loyal to those closest to him. Scarlett O’ Learly has been through a lot over the years. Aidan has a hit list a mile long, and Tommy Ahern is on the top of the list. He plans to kidnap his wife to make him pay. When Aidan sets his plan in motion, he sees Scarlett for the first time. He also did not realize how beautiful she was, and he may be falling for an O’Leary too. Scarlett does not know if she can trust him even though he saved her life.

This story was action-packed from the start. It was easy to get lost in action, from when Aidan rescued Scarlett from her poor living situation to having Alaina and Brody show up at the house demanding to see Scarlett. Aidan and Scarlett's chemistry was on fire too! They had great banter throughout the book, and I loved that they had to learn how to trust each other despite their circumstances. Another great book by Maggie Cole and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!.

This book has it all! Aiden is an O'Conner who hates the O'Leary family which is their families biggest enemy. His son-in-law, Tommy Ahern is on my list. The best way I know to get to them is to kidnap Tommy's most prized possession, his wife Scarlet Ahern, daughter of Jack O'Leary.
Scarlet wakes up in a strange place after being kidnapped or is it rescued. The man in the room with me is so hot and sexy but he is my families enemy but he is so hot and I'm so attracted to him.
He says my sister Alaina is married to his brother Brody but I don't believe him. I just want my sister and protection from Tommy whom I know is hunting me. He will kill us both if he finds us but Aiden swears he will protect me with his life. Can he keep us both safe?

Gah! I flove me a forced proximity read and add in the heat & chemistry and I could not put it down. Aiden & Scarlets story was addicting. Scarlet while in a horrible marriage initially doesn’t let that break her. She’s strong and Aiden is not the type of man who hates that. He helps her & protects her and I’m all about it.

A man hell bent on revenge and a mind filled with the idea of raising hell does the only thing that will get him closer to the "end game" and that's taking the wife of his family's archenemy. Scarlet was given to the devil incarnate by her own father, and so lived a life of hurt physically and mentally, despair and so much horror that one could never dream of. When Aiden O'Connor found her,he vowed to take her away from that life,to make her see that life can be different with just a little bit of trust and open mindedness in another person. Granted at first he took her as a means to an end,but gradually his heart, mind and soul was enraptured by her beauty, but more than anything he loved her sass and her spark that appeared as quickly as it vanished.
Add in her formidable sister Alaina who wanted her back where she belonged, but going up against the love that Scarlett and Aiden had for each other, she would have the fight of her life!
Watching how their relationship develops, the way trust is earned, the spice and the heat between the two of them,it's true what they say...love does conquer all! Bring on book 3...
