He spent ten years in prison, framed for killing his best friend—my brother. They hid me, but now I'm back…
Beckett Brooks wasn't just cute—he was beautiful. And my brother's best friend.
He’s never denied killing him. But he pushed me down to save me.
After I was shot they sent me away and hid me from the world. Everyone on the island thought I died.
Now Beckett’s been paroled. He wants me. Time has made him sexy as sin. I shouldn’t want him. But I do.
There’s a reason Beckett never told the truth. And the past is still trying to destroy us.

I’m a huge mystery lover, so I enjoyed Kiss of Redemption so much! It grabbed me right from the prologue, where Beckett is standing in front of the parole board, after being falsely imprisoned for the murder of his best friend. We get hints of the revenge he intends to wreak once he gets out, and also of his lingering feelings for the dead man’s sister.
We jump right into the present day drama, interspersed with flashbacks from the past (a device I love). You get to see the characters in their young and innocent days, then how they’ve changed since.
The prose was great, and there were plenty of steamy scenes to scratch that itch. I don’t want to spoil the unraveling of the mystery, but suffice it to say it the story has the HEA everyone deserves.
Nope. Everything about this story is awful and I’m honestly shocked at the number of high ratings it got. To each their own I suppose, but this book is not for me.
I was in the mood for a wrongfully-sentenced-hero romance, so this one caught my eye. And things were chugging along well enough until a scene somewhat early on that kind of weirded me out. I told myself it wasn't a big deal... but it kept happening.
There was also the fact that I wasn't too sure about the hero and heroine in general. For one thing, I'm surprised she's made it this far in life without a scratch.
Finally, it got on my nerves that if she's not the one bawling like a baby, then the hero is; it's always one or another.
This book starts off very good and remains that way through at least 2/3 and then, for me, takes a nose dive due to the stupidity of the heroine. This is then followed up by a very stupid act by the group of them.
Beckett has spent the past 10 years for a crime he didn’t get do. He was accused of shooting and killing his best friend. He’s meeting with the parole board when Mia, the younger sister of the man he’s been accused of killing shows up. Beckett is shocked because he thought she was killed at the same time. Mia had been in love with Becket for years and she couldn’t believe he would kill her brother but Beckett never denies it.
The book takes place in the present but through a series of flashbacks, we see what led up to the shooting and the shooting itself. Some of this is poignant as we meet Clay, the brother, in the flashbacks and he was a very likeable young man who loved his little sister and his bro Beckett.
It doesn’t take Mia long to realize that Beckett didn’t kill her brother but he refuses to tell her what happened. We see clearly that in not telling her, he was protecting her but this led to her stupid decisions in trying to find out. He finally reveals the story and what they need to do to clear things but she doesn’t follow his advice and continues to go out on her own even though her life is now in extreme danger. Then after everything reaches its conclusion, their way (they being Beckett and his brothers who were aware of the truth and working behind the scenes) of taking care of things to me was not at all thought out.
And since this is a romance, Beckett and Mia fall deeply in love. I quite enjoyed their love story. And her stupid acts aside, I like Mia and Beckett is a total yummy hero. This is the first book in the series. While they took care of some of the villains, more remain. I fully plan on continuing with this series as the first 2/3rds was at least a 4.5 inching towards a 5 star read. So while the grade seems a bit lower, I do recommend this RS book.
Mia's high school crush-Beckett- goes to prison for killing her brother Clay. Right after her brother died, Mia was sent away for her own safety. She has returned 10 years later to attend Beckett's parole hearing to ensure he doesn't get out of prison, and she fails.
Beckett can't believe his eyes, Mia's alive. He had always wondered why he wasn't also charged with her murder. He has unfinished business. He hopes to get out early so he can exact his plan for revenge.
This emotional story full of mystery and plot twists bounces back and forth between the present day and 10 years ago. Answers slowly unravel in this friends to enemies to lovers taboo dark romance.
This is the first book in a series. Each book deals with a different member of the Brooks family (there are 6 - 4 boys and 2 girls). This first book (Kiss of Redemption) is Becket Brooks and Mia Crimson's story and sets the stage for the back story that runs through each book.
Beckett was convicted for the murder of his best friend, Clay, a crime he didn't commit. The story opens as Beckett is appearing before the parole board after having served 10 of his 15 yr sentence. He is shocked to discover Mia, Clay's sister at the hearing as he'd been told she died of a bullet would she received that same night. Beckett was set up for the murder by the people who actually committed it and told if he wanted to keep his family safe he would keep his mouth shut.
Mia survived the bullet wound she received that might but initially couldn't remember what happened. Raised by her grandparents, she is sent away to boarding school and told she must never come back because it isn't safe for her there anymore...but she is never told why it isn't safe. Her grandparents have passed and as the only living relative of the victim she received notice of the parole hearing. Seeing Becket again at the hearing she suddenly has an audio memory ..she hears him yelling at her to "get down". That is the first of many memories that return to her.
Every few chapters there is a chapter of past events that slowly reveal not only what happened the night of Clay's murder, but also what led up to it and who was involved. Mia never believed Beckett was capable of killing Clay, but wonders why he never denied it. As her memories return and truths are revealed, it becomes clear the bad guys are aware that Mia knows and are coming after her. It it up to Beckett and his brothers to protect her.
There are some unexpected twists involving Mia and her brother's murderer. The gang he ruled was known as the Twisted Hearts. After reading the synopsis in the subsequent books it is apparent that they continue to have affects on the Brooks family and appear in other family members stories.
I bought this book because it took place on Anna Maria Island, about 30 min from where I grew up and I spent many summers there so I thought it would be fun to read about places I'd been. Sadly there wasn't a lot of detailed descriptions of places although a few places were mention like Holmes Beach and Coquina Beach...been there. Still it turned out to be a pretty good story. There were a couple of things that seemed conflicting or a little confusing. The ages of Becket and Mia for one, the numbers didn't always jive, but it was only off by a year, so I just allotted for birthdays not having taken place yet in the particular year referenced. The other was regarding virginity...particularly with Beckett...the first time he and Mia have a sexual encounter and she tells him she's "never done this before" and he says "me either" so you think 'okay..he was in high school when he went to prison and he just got out'....but then you read about his hook-ups in high school. I just overlooked it and kept on going, because in truth, the story got better as it went along. Looking forward to reading the others in the series, but might wait until price drops ($4.99 ea right now) or I get enough points for freebies.
For ten years he said nothing. He sat in prison, isolated and alone, accused of a murder he didn't commit. It wasn't just any murder though. As far as the world was concerned he'd killed his best friend, Clay, and Clay's little sister, Mia. When his parole finally came around he felt the earth move beneath his feet. But it wasn't the fact he'd been granted his freedom that course his world to tremble, it was the vision of the dead who stood looking at him, her eyes filled with hurt and questions. Mia. He'd been told she was dead, but now she was back, and as soon as anyone discovered she was here his years of silence wouldn't matter. He needed to protect her, but will she even let him close when she believes he is the one responsible for her brother's death?
Kiss of Redemption is the first book in Maggie Cole's Together We Stand Series. Centred around Beckett and Mia. It's an engaging read filled with questions, suspense, and romance as Mia and Beckett find themselves and each other. With Beckett's silence came a guarantee, but now Mia is back and asking questions, unaware of the danger she is putting everyone in. The truth was hidden for a reason, silence kept and time paid. He lost ten years of his life, and if Mia isn't careful he'll lose everything he needed to protect, even her. Well-written, perfectly paced, with characters you can't help but connect with. An enjoyable read beginning to end.
I absolutely love Beckett. His story will tear your heart apart for him.
Ten years ago Beckett went to prison for murdering his best friend Clay. He also believes that Clay's little sister Mia was killed because he also saw her shot. But when Mia shows up for his release trial Beckett is in shock because he thought she was dead. He is given early release for good behavior and his family comes to get him. On their way home they are caught in traffic and happen to be driving by Mia's grandparents house when they see someone grab at Mia as she is getting her mail. Beckett jumps out of the vehicle and begins to beat the man for manhandling Mia. Beckett's brother pulls him off the man and tells him to stop or he could go back to jail. Mia is terrified at this point because she was always told that Beckett killed her brother. She only has vague memories of the incident. He has never told anyone what really happened. Kiss of Redemption is such a great story. It shows how hurt Beckett has been about losing his best friend and the heart that he has for his family and Mia. Mia is alone in this world as all of her family has passed. She was so close to her older brother and Beckett. I actually cheered when these two got together. This is a hard book to put down. I totally think everyone should read this. Thank you Maggie Cole for such a great and suspenseful read.
Kiss of Redemption is an introduction to the Brooks family. This book gave me all of the feels. First, I found myself rooting for Beckett. After hearing his story and how everything happened, you can’t help but want things to work out for him. And then you meet Mia, poor little Mia. With everything that she’s been through, you can’t blame her for being the way she is. But she decides that’s she doesn’t exactly agree with what she was always told, so she sets out to find her own truth in her own way.
That’s when you start rooting for them as a couple (because they make such an adorable one). And who doesn’t deserve to be happy after all of this mess??
This story was well written and engaging from page one. It has the perfect mix of comedic relief and steamy romance with family drama sprinkled throughout. I can’t wait to get to know the rest of the family.
This book lavished details on the things that didn't matter (I truly don't care whether the MCs pull chicken or ground beef out of the fridge to cook for a routine weeknight dinner) and decided to rush over things that did matter (how on earth does someone get just fifteen years in jail for first degree murder in Florida? why does Beckett's mom have no role in life other than smiling and preparing food for everyone? why did it take Beckett so long to realize that if he and his family were hanging out with Mia all the time others on the island would realize that she was alive and on the island?).
Mia's older brother, Clay, was killed when she was just thirteen years old. She was also shot right after he was, but conveniently lacks crucial memories like "Who was there?" and "Who shot me and my brother?" Clay's best friend, Beckett, was there and when he is accused of the shootings, he doesn't confess anything, but he doesn't deny anything. At seventeen, he is sent to jail for ten years, which apparently is what the author thinks is the sentence for first degree murder in Florida. Everyone tells him that Mia is dead.
Ten years later, he's getting ready to be released from jail. Mia, now twenty-three and obviously smoking hot, shows up at the courtroom (not sure how the courtroom was involved, to be honest) with the intention of asking the judge not to let him go. But she forgot that he was super hot! And seeing how hot he is, she forgets all about her decision to ask the judge to ask the judge to hold the man who she thinks killed her only sibling accountable.
Instead, she goes out and gets drunk. Despite the fact that Beckett was best friends with Clay and she was best friends with Beckett's little sister, she doesn't recognize her bartender as being Beckett's brother and he doesn't recognize her either. Depending on the needs of the author, the families are either really close or don't know each other well at all. Same with the size of the island. Sometimes it's very tiny and everyone knows each other and other times, it's taken for granted the key players don't know each other and their histories at all.
Anyway, once she is drunk, Mia goes to a house party at Beckett's house to celebrate his release. Nobody in Beckett's family seems to think it is a big deal that their brother/son just did ten years for killing Mia's brother and has never denied that he did it. They're all like "Hey, Mia! Glad to see you're actually alive and not dead like we assumed for ten years." And she's remarkably casual about the whole thing too. When Beckett shows up the next morning to overhaul her house and install a security system, her reaction isn't "Why on earth do you think I would want my brother's killer to install my security system and know my alarm code?" It's more like "I should feel bad because he killed my brother, but he's so cute."
Soon Mia just assumes it's impossible for him to have killed her brother, despite the fact that they have very few conversations about it. She invites him to move it. This whole time, Beckett knows exactly what happened to her brother and who on the island was responsible for it. It takes him quite a while to realize that Mia's existence on the island will obviously let the actual murderers know that she's not dead, but even after he knows the danger to her, he discourages her from carrying a gun for protection (even though he and his brothers are loaded to bear at all times) and he doesn't tell her about the people on the island who would be a threat to her. It's a weird decision, compounded by his decision to install a tracker on her phone without her knowledge or permission and never once saying "Hey, the guy who shot you and your brother has free range of this island and I think you're in danger because you're living in full view under his nose."
Honestly, both characters were silly and not very likable. We're told that Mia cared a great deal about her brother but nothing she does from the moment she sees Beckett reflects that. He's like "Despite not denying it and not doing anything to help authorities identify the real murderer, it wasn't me. But I can't tell you who it was." And she's like "Okay, why don't you move in with me?" And Beckett is oblivious to obvious threats to Mia's safety and does everything he can to keep her in the dark about the dangers she's facing.
The book is full of vivid details, but many of them don't make sense. For example, when Beckett is released from jail, he's given the clothing he wore when he was arrested -- which is a swimsuit covered in the blood of Clay and Mia. So that wasn't booked as evidence ever? This is a murder case where they didn't feel the need to tell what actually happened at the crime scene despite the fact that they had a suspect who wasn't talking?
The whole thing has a temporary resolution that is a setup for the next novel. The characters make some silly decisions: calling the FBI to report Mia's kidnapping, going to the boat where she's being held themselves, slaughtering everyone on board, then blowing up the boat with a flare gun (???), and assuming this will destroy all the evidence of their kill rampage and the FBI will be like "Looks like Mia's home and the bad guys and their boat just vanished after you all went out there and somehow found Mia" . I can't imagine this plot making any more sense than the plot in this book, so I will not be continuing.
Author uses "heroin" and "heroine" interchangeably.
I read the reviews before purchasing and thought it would be great. I felt like I was reading a story written by a high school student not a published author. I couldn’t even finish, I tried. I was hoping I’d found a new series. On to the next I guess.
Maggie Cole writes like she was born to tell compelling stories!
All I can say is that... From the first word to the last, I was hooked. Kiss of Redemption was a wild ride, fast paced, action packed, funny, romantic, sizzling sex, throw in a side of danger and a family dynamic thicker than blood, and right from the book together we stand, alone we fall, those words couldn’t ring any truer.
The need for revenge an obsession, a need for the truth so painful, ignites into something more, the fears, the doubts, were they both ready to let there guards down, take the risk for there future, if only they could overcome there past, would it bring them together, or tear them apart, burning them from the inside out all for the sake of there love for each other? Then YES
Denying there attraction to one another was hard, it was seductive, sensual, suspenseful but also fun, but when they came together it was electrifying. The way they loved each other, there love provocative, the romance heartwarming and beautiful, there love so passionate, they desire each other above all else.
The truths, the lies, the trust and betrayal of friends that were family, lead to the past colliding with the present, the emotional turmoil that Beckett and Mia experienced was raw as it was powerful, the need to want to protect her overwhelming, the need to trust to move forward could not be more important. And when all of it was exposed, it was exhilarating, the twists and turns, how they were each tested before getting the closure they so deserved.
The way Beckett and Mia’s relationship developed and grew, they begun to learn about each other, building there trust, forging a shared path that will see them both achieve and succeed with the same goals in there shared life.
And those s€x scenes in the bedroom were very intimate, hot, raw, powerful, passionate, deliciously dirty, oh so steamy, wicked, beautiful, hot, wet and wild, and there happily every after is what any reader would wish for.
This author clearly knows how to hook and ensnare her readers to ensure they come back for more, me I’ll definitely come back for more from this author for sure! The different points of view told a telling story, all connected very well, the characters were very well written, it made it so easy for the reader to totally immerse themselves, to get lost in the entirety of the story. Can’t wait to see where these character are at in the next book.
10 years ago, Beckett was convicted for murdering his best friend, Clay. He didn't know why Mia's murder wasn't also part of his charges; she was dead. The joint funeral, his family, her grandparents, and his attorney claimed she died that night too. Beckett didn't kill them. But he knowd who did. He plans to avenge their deaths. Until the day of parole and he sees a ghost in the courtroom. Mia can't bring herself to believe Beckett killed Clay. For 10 years, her grandparents have refused to let her come home. She was sent to a boarding school that was run by nuns. Now that her grandparents have died, she is back home. The pain of her lost time and having no family still plagues her. And the memory of Beckett yelling "Mia get down!" still haunts her. She attends his parole hearing but the way his eyes look, she knows he wasn't the killer. 2 days and he was going to be free again. But 2 days won't erase the 10 years she lost. Mia is walking the beach and stops at a bar. The bartender, Connor, flirts with Mia and offers her a drink. The fishbowl seems fruity and eating half a sandwich doesn't save her from being tipsy. Connor offers her walk her home. She decides she can trust him. They reach her house, but he invites her to his house. He mentions that his parents are throwing a party and it would be a good way for her to meet other people. Since she has been alone for so long, she agrees. At the door, a man insists they have to take a shot before entering. Beyond tipsy, she has barely entered the living room when she sees him. Connor is Beckett's younger brother and she has inadvertantly stepped into his "Welcome home from prison" party.
A whirlwinf of emotions fill every page of this book of second chances. The emotions of Mia and Beckett show how they are both stuck in the past. Beckett's need to protect Mia prevents her from trusting him. If he tells her his secret, it could make her hate him. Beckett has fallen in love with Mia since he saw her alive in the court room. She is no longer the 13 year old little sister. Mia is 24, and a virgin. Despite her feelings that Beckett never denied killing her brother, she always had a crush on him. Now, can she possibly be more than friends with him?
Suspense builds and captivates every bit of a reader's mind. Proof that you can't hide from your problems is easy to see as the pair navigate their relationship. The danger from 10 years ago lingers around them, making the tension palpable. The steamy moments are tastefully written. The climatic scene was torture as I couldn't predict any move. Add in some more twists nobody expected and this book easily earned 5 stars. Mature fans of suspens romance stories will agree that this book lays rhe perfect foundation for the Brooks Family Saga series.
For Beckett Brooks, he spent ten years in prison for a crime he did not commit. When he's released early on good behavior, he vows vengeance on those that stole his happiness and freedom. When he comes face to face with someone from his past, he realizes that there's someone else he has to protect; his best friend's sister.
I enjoyed this book. I wasn't a complete fan of some of the decisions that Mia and Beckett made though. I thought Mia made some very rash decisions that ended up putting her and Beckett into a lot of danger. While I loved how she stood by Beckett and didn't let him fight alone, she should have consulted with him more before going off and confronting people. I also didn't like how she nor Beckett gave Casey a chance to explain and just assumed the worst of him.
Beckett, my heart went out to him, especially after learning what really happened, but I didn't like that he withheld so much information from Mia and his family. (I realize that he felt like he was boxed into a corner with the threat still hanging over him and not knowing who he could rely on.) I thought it was stupid when he asked Mia to not carry a gun, given everything that had happened and especially since she could have a target on her back. I did love that he wanted to be the one to protect her though.
I did like their love story and I thought overall the story went well; the pace was good and it was easy to follow. I appreciated the flashbacks and that they weren't overdone; just enough to give the reader insight into what really happened.
Captured the time stamps of Beckett’s character from 10 years ago, and the hardened version of him in the present time very well. The carefree attributes vanished. It was a strange feeling, reading this. I felt like I was right there with him, living the life. Ghosts of the past haunt him, of what could have been. I could feel that through the book. So very well written.
It was a very sad story really. At times difficult to read. I’m glad that Beckett got the piece of mind he needed, that no matter his actions, he could resolve himself of guilt over Clay, because he was set up. Prison taught him skills though. Gets you thinking about the justice system in general.
One thing that didn’t make complete sense. If Beckett & Clay were best friends, there wasn’t any motive. It was never touched upon.
I wished that it would have come out that he didn’t murder his best friend, and his name was cleared. And for his Dad to find out his ‘best friend’ had a hand in setting his son up.

Author Maggie Cole brings another block buster series in the 1st book in the “Together We Stand” series. Known for bringing her readers twist & surprises around every turn, she does it again in this compelling, dramatic love story between Beckett & Mia. Secrets, Betrayal and Lust. This book takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride that you won’t regret getting on! This was an amazing page turner that I was hooked into from page one and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Siblings HEA’s!! Bring on the Next Five books, they’re gonna be devoured! 🤪
This is the first book in a exciting new series. The series is about the Brooks siblings as they find love amidst life threatening danger. This first book is about Beckett who has spent 10 years in jail for killing his best friend, Clay. At his parole meeting, he is shocked to see Mia, Clay's little sister. Everyone thought she had died in the same incident. There is an instant chemistry and attraction between them. What will happen when she discovers the truth about what occurred that sad day? There are secrets galore in this book. The storyline grips you and the attention is kept in the page. I really want to read the stories of the rest of the siblings. There is an underlying storyline that continues in each story so I would recommend reading the books in order to understand why things happen. Fantastic book and we'll written.
Beckett and Mia have been put through so much and still have to fight to survive. This has suspense, secrets, danger, lies, a dirty cop, a drug dealer and so much more. The characters were intriguing and the storyline kept me entertained.
Beckett took the fall for killing his best friend Clay and his sister Mia them he was seventeen. He never told who really pulled the trigger to save his family from a worse fate. For ten years he endured prison life until he was released.
Mia's grandparents sent her away to boarding school to keep her safe after she recovered from her gun shot wound. She finished college and returned to her hometown after her grandparents died. They always told her it was not safe to come back but never told her why since the person who killed her brother was in jail.
Screaming peanut butter on the last few chapters 😞
Extremely cool premise of a storyline. Really liked Beckett and Mia right away. Beckett’s sisters were exceedingly annoying. I almost tossed the book for good a couple times. My kingdom for some great side characters. I’d settle for good, even. Someone I didn’t hate within five sentences of an introduction. And I actually liked the storyline, it was a tad predictable but enjoyable. At least up until the end couple chapters. The insert of the “50SoG” was pretty ridiculous imo and pretty much killed any happy feelings I had overall on the story. Despite me liking Mia and Beckett, my dislike for Gabriella and Gracie and the way the book ended, I will not be continuing on with the series. But ultimately, it’s a quick and decent story with likeable main characters, just wasn’t for me in the long run.
Kiss of Redemption was a decent start to a new series. Our MC's Mia and Beckett were both likable enough, even though some of the decisions Mia made at first were kind of questionable. The storyline was fairly easy to follow even though we got flashbacks from the present to the past for the first half of the book, I think it worked well here. I will say, I wished Beckett had just outright told Mia what happened when he got out, as I am not a big fan of lack of communication/miscommunications. His whole thing was not wanting to put her in danger, but by not knowing that is even more dangerous. Also, why did Henry betray Beckett's family? We never really got an answer for that. I wish we had seen a glimpse of Mia and Beckett further into the future, but overall it was an okay read and it kept me interested until the end.
Beckett & Mia Imagine being locked up in prison for ten years for a crime you didn’t commit. But it’s too dangerous to tell the truth. Now imagine being the only living family member of the victim and being present for when the court decides to release the murderer of your brother who also happens to be the boy you grew up with. The boy who was your brother’s best friend and he thought you died too. It’s a very heavy story with some good twists and turns, some surprises and unexpected scenes. I’ll be fair, it's an awesome book and I love Beckett and Mia and the whole idea behind everything, but some things feel off. Like they are moving too fast, too soon. I sure liked the family bonds and the way they stick with each other and have each other’s backs and I can’t wait how the story will continue.
Beckett Brooks- A man wrongfully accused. He feels there is no hope for himself. How does one truly gain redemption?
Mia Crimson- They all thought she had died too! Is she out for vengeance? Can she put her tortured past behind her, and truly move forward with the man who haunts her dreams (nightmares)?
Maggie Cole has done it yet again with this first installment of the Together We Stand series. She pulls you in right from the jump! Filled with mystery, intrigue, Steamy romance, loss, love, humor, and of course redemption Beckett and Mia’s story will have you yelling, laughing, screaming, crying and all the things. The Brooks’ family saga is just beginning, and I am hooked entirely!

This book was great from beginning to end. Beckett was framed for his best friends murder. He spends 10 long years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He spends those 10 years without even a hug from his family members. There was a no touching rule at the prison. Beckett trusted the wrong person when he needed help with an issue clay was having and that sealed his fate for 10 years. Now he’s a free man and finds out Mia is not only alive but she’s living in town and he gets to see her whenever he wants. The two of them begin to get close. She starts to remember certain things. This book is quite emotional. For 10 years Beckett has kept the secret that he was not the one who murdered Clay but now he’s home and he vows to get redemption! Great 5 star read!
I received this book as ARC in return for my honest opinion. First, this wasn’t a typical book that I would have read, but I’m glad that I did! I flew through this book in a couple of days. I loved that it had me on the edge of my seat with the suspense, but also it was hot! The realization of the truth of what really happened was mind blowing. The Twisted Hearts were so well written that a few times I heard a sound while reading about them and jumped. All the characters came to life on the pages while reading the book. I highly recommend this book! I cannot wait to read more from Maggie Cole!
