Ruben & Shane
Ruben ist klar, dass es eine beknackte Idee ist, sich auf diesen heißen Surfer einzulassen. Seine Leidenschaft fürs Kochen zeigen seine Hüftpolster. Schon deshalb passt er nicht in die Welt der Sportler mit ihren perfekten Bodys. Wenig überraschend bricht Shane ihm bei der ersten Gelegenheit das Herz. Da noch dazu Rubens berufliche Zukunft auf der Kippe steht, erscheint ihm die Flucht aus Ocean’s View die beste Idee. Kaum ist das Pride-Festival vorbei, bewahrheitet sich Shanes Befü Ruben ist genauso oberflächlich wie alle anderen Kerle und sieht nur seine sexy Fassade. Er sollte froh sein, dass Ruben weg ist – und dennoch geht ihm dieser nicht aus dem Kopf. Denn egal, was Ruben behauptet, da ist mehr zwischen ihnen. Während die beiden noch versuchen, mit ihren Gefühlen klarzukommen, treffen sie völlig unverhofft in den Bergen, fernab des Küstenortes, auf engstem Raum aufeinander. Erst jetzt erhält Shane eine Chance auf die Antworten, die er sich erhofft. Jedoch muss Ruben den Mut finden, zu bleiben, um sich Shanes Fragen wirklich zu stellen. Darum geht’s:
Ruben und Shane haben ein paar heiße Nächte rund um das Pride Festival in Ocean’s View miteinander verbracht. Als Ruben andeutet, dass er mit seinem Foodtruck zu lohnenderen Strandabschnitten weiterziehen will, reagiert Shane darauf, indem er mit einem fremden Mann rummacht. Enttäuscht packt Ruben seine Sachen und zieht weiter. Als sich die beiden Monate später in einem Ski-Resort wieder treffen, sind sie zwischen aufflammender Leidenschaft und dem Gefühl, fallen gelassen worden zu sein, hin und her gerissen.

Auf dem Pride geht es sehr heiss weiter! Aber wie es so ist, wenn man Lili sagt, sie soll eine intensive und heisse Sommergeschichte schreiben, finden wir uns zwischendurch ganz woanders wieder, nämlich im verschneiten Vermont. Aber manchmal ist es eben die Kälte, die das Herz schmelzen lässt.
Ruben und Shane lernen sich im Sommer auf dem Pride in Cape Cod kennen. Shane ist hübscher Surfer und Ruben betreibt dort einen Foodtruck. Beide erliegen ihren Vorurteilen und ihrer Vergangenheit, so dass daraus nicht mehr wird, als ein Abenteuer. Im Winter treffen sie sich in Vermont wieder und lernen sich von einer ganz anderen Seite kennen.
Ich finde es toll, dass Lili einen kurvigen Charakter eingebaut hat. Beide Protagonisten machen eine tolle Entwicklung durch und lernen, dass Kommunikation sehr wichtig ist.
Die winterliche Atmosphäre konnte die Hitze der letzten Tage nicht vertreiben, weil Ruben und Shane einfach das Herz erwärmen. Beide haben in der Vergangenheit mit Menschen schlechte Erfahrungen gemacht, die ihr Verhalten geprägt haben. In Vermont reflektieren sie ihre Erlebnisse und merken, wie mutig und toll sie wirklich sind und auch, was es heißt sich gegenseitig zu stärken.
Außerdem gibt Lili der Geschichte mit dem Settingwechsel auch Zeit sich zu entwickeln. Das Buch ist toll geschrieben, aber da ich schon einige von Lilis Bücher gelesen habe, war das zu erwarten 🫂
Es gibt tolle Nebencharaktere, die hängenbleiben und natürlich treffen wir auch auf bekannte Gesichter aus den Büchern von @tomkejantzen, @jessicagraves.schreibt, @elisa_schwarz_autorin, @karo.stein und @adrianschoenknecht
Ich bin wirklich traurig, dass nächste Woche das letzte Buch aus der Reihe erscheint und das Pride seine Pforten schließt. Es waren tolle, bunte Geschichten, schon deswegen werde ich Adrians Buch noch einmal richtig genießen.

Der Surfer Shane 🏄 und der Foodtruck-Koch Ruben 👨🍳 treffen während des #Pride 🏳️🌈 Festivals in Ocean‘s View aufeinander und verbringen gemeinsam einige heiße Stunden. 🔥
Doch kaum ist das Festival vorbei, trennen sich plötzlich ihre Wege, um sich in den winterlich verschneiten Bergen von Vermont wieder zu begegnen. ❄️
Ruben und Shane - die zwei sind einfach zum Dahinschmelzen 🫠 und süß 🥰 und liebenswert ❤️ und auch ein bisschen doof 🤭! Denn bevor man offen über seine Gefühle spricht, läuft man besser davon - nicht wahr?! 😜😅
Aber ich konnte sie durchaus verstehen. Beide mussten in der Vergangenheit schlechte Erfahrungen machen, die sie nachhaltig geprägt haben 😔 - ich sage nur der dritte Dick und das Haar-Modell - was für zwei oberflächliche *piep* 🤬 Typen!!
Shane ist zwar bildhübsch, hält sich jedoch für einen Nichtsnutz, der sein Leben vergeudet. Und Ruben denkt er sei zu dick für die schwule Datingwelt. 😢
»Wenn du erkennst, dass Perfektion immer nur im Auge des Betrachters liegt und du deshalb nie ›perfekt für jeden‹ sein kannst, hält dich das nicht davon ab, das Beste aus jeder Situation rauszuholen.«
Aber eigentlich sind die beiden süchtig nach dem jeweils anderen mit dem sehnsüchtigen Wunsch nach mehr und eigentlich finden sie sich gegenseitig ziemlich perfekt! 🥰🤗
❤️ Shane liebt Rubens fürsorgliche Art, wie er aufblüht, wenn es ums Kochen geht, und einfach alles an ihm, ganz besonders seine Hüftpolsterchen und Brusthaare!
❤️ Ruben liebt Shanes offene Art durchs Leben zu gehen, dass er den Mut hatte seinen Traum als Surf- und Snowboard-Lehrer zu verwirklichen und ja, die Muskeln sind auch ganz toll 😉!
Die zuckersüßesten Nebencharaktere sind auch vorhanden - Sway, die Matchmakerin. George & Adriel, die zwei Puzzleteile 🧩. Shanes Bruder gibt gute Tipps. Rubens Eltern mit ihren Mom/Dad-hugs-for-free-Shirts 🥹🥰❤️🤗.
Adonis-Aiden-Surferdude (wie ihn Ruben so treffend bezeichnet) darf auch ein wenig Verwirrung stiften!🔥🥰❤️
Und zwischen fesselnden Sandkuchen 😉🥰, der lucky number 7 🍀, der Feel-Good-Suppe mit Sternchennudeln ⭐️, umarmenden Wohlfühlzonen 🫂❤️, der Erkenntnis, das Kommunikation alles ist 🙌, der Kirsche auf dem Pistazien-Eisbecher 😉🍒🍨😋, dem Surfkurs für queere Kids (hab ich geheult 😭❤️), der Dosis Snowboarder und dem Ruben-Bann dürfen wir Shane & Ruben auf dem Weg zu ihrem Mehr begleiten!! 🥰

Konnte ich verhindern, dass er lief, wenn ich seine Hand nur fest genug hielt? Ich wollte wissen, welches Problem er mit mir hatte. Unter meiner Hand fühlte ich, wie er seine Finger bewegte, doch er zog sie nicht weg. Ich hob den Blick und schaute ihn an. Er beobachtete unsere ineinander verschränkten Hände. »Vielleicht können wir ja richtige Freunde werden, ohne den Ballast aus dem Sommer«, murmelte er vor sich hin. 𝘍𝘳𝘦𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦? Nicht, was ich im Sinn gehabt hatte. »Vielleicht«, gestand ich ihm zu. 𝘝𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘵.

Für Shane besteht das Leben aus surfen, chillen und ein paar entspannten One-Night-Stands.. er ist auch total im Reinen mit sich. Bis Ruben auftaucht und seinen ach so entspannten Lifestyle, ordentlich ins Wanken bringt…
Aber auch Ruben fühlt mehr, als nur ein bisschen Anziehung bei dem lässigen Surferboy.. auch wenn sie -für ihn- augenscheinlich nicht zusammenpassen. Nach ein paar intensiven Nächten mit Shane, treibt ihn ein zufällig beobachteter Kuss in die Flucht.. er schwingt sich kurzerhand in seinen Foodtruck und zieht weiter, um sein Herz zu schützen. Denn Shane scheint ja nicht sonderlich interessiert..
Oh du lieber Himmel… ich wollte beide gleichermaßen übers Knie legen! 🤯 Ruben erwischt Shane aber auch immer zu einem 𝘶𝘯𝘨ü𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯 Zeitpunkt. Aiden hätte ich nur zur gern die Hände irgendwo angebunden, damit er sie von Shane lässt! 😅
Dieses Mal sind es nicht nur Fußspuren im Sand, die hinterlassen werden… sondern auch im Schnee! ❄️🤍❄️ Wie die dahin kommen, müsst ihr schon selbst herausfinden… 🥰
Fazit: die beiden haben mit ihrer liebenswerten Art nicht nur Schnee schmelzen lassen, sondern auch mein Herz. 🫠💞 Eine weitere absolut empfehlenswerte Geschichte aus der Footprints-Reihe. 🥰🙌🏼

Shane is a surfer who frequents the beach in the Summer, and the slopes in the Winter. He hooks up with a lot of guys. Ruben is a chef who has travelled abroad working I Michelin star kitchens but is now running a food truck on the beach where he experiments with recipes. They had a week or so of sex, but Ruben sees Shane kissing another guy and gets so upset that he takes his truck to his next destination a day early. Shane is beside himself, and phones/messages Ruben to try to get an explanation. Ruben doesn’t reply except in very brief messages. They eventually meet up at a posh resort where Ruben is a sous-chef and Shane is a snowboard instructor. As it happens, they share a cabin. Ruben is furious at first and tries to get Shane to move out. Of course, he doesn’t and they smooth things over.
I enjoyed the story but found that the formatting got in the way. Someone put breaks all over the place that tended to get in the way of smooth reading since the words that followed a break just continued the text before the break. That said, the story itself is really sweet. Ruben has a lack of self-confidence due to his poor body image, especially vis-à-vis Shane who is in great shape. On the other had, Shane is concerned by the fact that he only has high school where Ruben has completed culinary college. Neither believes that the other could fall for them. The MCs are well-developed and by the end, the reader truly knows and loves them. The book has a lot of “guest” appearances, but the important secondary characters is relatively limited. They’re very important to plot development, and except for a couple of nasty types, they are all very supportive. The plot is quite straightforward and easy to follow.

It's a decent read about two guys who are masters of misunderstandings, no communication, lack of self-confidence but still manage to overcome it.
I found the beginning of the book a bit exhausting, it just didn't go anywhere until they both really broke up.
When they met again, I started enjoying the story a lot more. You finally got some background of their individual issues and when they finally manage to talk properly the story flows a lot better.
Ruben has the professional sucess but lacks on body confidence and just can't understand what Shane sees in him and runs at the first hurdle.
Shane is the free spirit but feels he lacks on professionalism. It takes plenty of talk for him to realise that he is not the shallow surfer he sees himself.
I would have loved a bit more information about what they ended up doing in the end, the epilogue felt half-baked unfortunatley.
It's an easy read for a summer day, on holiday or even curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea.

Ruben and Shane are definitely one of the examples of opposites attract as they're so different from each other. But that doesn't stop the sparks when they meet or when they come together for a fling that feels more than a fling. There's chemistry and attraction but it's more than that. Sadly, though their fling ends on bad terms because of a mix of miscommunication and insecurities. Which is why when they find themselves secluded together on a mountain they're forced to ask the questions they were left with and hopefully receive some answers if they're brave enough to do so. This was an emotionally charged second chance romance that leaves you feeling good and satisfied when it's over. No, they didn't have smooth sailing but that's okay as long as they work on it together and figure out how they want to move foward. This is my first book by this author but I'm looking foward to reading more.

This is a sweet, second-chance romance story. I am new to this author and I enjoyed the story and the characters in the book. I love it when I find a new author to my add to list and this is one. The title was a little crazy for me, but in the end I got it. These two men are total opposites. Anyone who’s ever struggled with weight and body issues can totally relate to Ruben and how he feels particularly as he develops feelings for the hot surfer instructor Shane, whose body is perfection. Of course Shane feels only people like him for his body.They seem to have a connection in the summer playing, but miscommunication has Ruben running for the hill. when they meet later the connection is still there and the two work hard to find love. This is a sweet romance that will leave your heart full, your face with a smile and yearning for more from the sweet couple.

The weather has been very warm and sunny where I live, so this seemed like the perfect book to pair with that. This was a very sweet, heartwarming book to me. I know miscommunication can be a tricky trope, but to me, it makes so much sense, because communication can be very difficult and very scary. Ruben and Shane start off with a connection, but they're both very different, they each have their insecurities, and they make assumptions about what the other must think of them. This felt very realistic to me, and I loved seeing them work their way through this and grow both as people and as a couple.

I enjoyed this story of the surfer who is convinced people are with him only for his looks and who has convinced himself that's all he has to offer and the chef who convinces himself someone as good looking as Shane couldn't be interested in someone who looks like him. Despite making a great connection initially, these two don't give each other a chance. When a forced proximity plot twist puts them together they finally get the courage to be open and honest about the assumptions they've made. I found that sad because of their mutual lack of self-esteem, but necessary for the story and well handled.

I’m really glad I got to read this ARC, it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. I was not a big fan of Shane at first. Like, not at all.
I really thought Ruben was too good for him, and I didn’t really like Shane blaming Ruben when he was the one who messed up (for me).
Buuuut, I did change my mind at some point while reading, they were just so sweet together. I loved how Shane showed Ruben’s body the so well-deserved love it deserved.
I’m so happy to see some representation in books.
Overall, this book is perfect if you want a tiny bit of angst and a lot of cute moments.

Sweet! Ruben, is a man who wears his love of cooking on his waist. He meets hot surfer dude Shane and they instantly click. Through a series of miscommunications, their tryst doesn't end well. They get a chance to talk when they meet up again. Their attraction is revitalized and they actutally get to know each other better. Ruben, is pulling a bit of emotional baggage with him on his journey that he needs to drop before he can move forward. Their journey is a bit bumpy, but a fun read. Ruben and Shane are nice, attractive sweet men. Sexy cover art! Well done!

OUTSTANDING Book. So Sweet. Such heart. Intense storyline! I made the mistake of trying to start this book before work, and WHY? Once I started I could not put it down! I loved it SO MUCH. I couldn't put it down until I finished. I identified with both of these characters and was rooting for them so hard! They are so perfect for each other and SHANE! He loves SO Hard. And sweet Ruben. Perfect exactly as he is. This was a German book translated to English and I was so excited to finally be able to read it. less than 250 pages. Such a good read.

I enjoyed this book. Miscommunication leads to a second chance romance with a dose of forced proximity for two opposites attract. I liked both Shane and Reuben. Both have insecurities that lead to assumptions until they finally voice them and understand what happened. But I found them both relatable and likable. They were cute together and have great chemistry. This is the first story I've read by this author and I would read more. 4 stars

This wasn’t bad, but I didn’t really enjoy it. The whole book was pretty much the typical third-act breakup, so it was missing all the things I prefer. The miscommunication and avoidance just didn’t end - it was exhausting.
The translation had enough wrong words used, incorrect negatives and phrases/sentences that didn’t really make sense to be distracting.

Nothing like reading a nice, summery story when I'm currently surviving winter.

It is a confusing story, and this is due to the text formatting, with sentences running into each other. Because of this, I found it difficult to find a rhythm while reading this story.

In this book Shane is a bit of a player, he only has one night stands, until he meets Ruben. They are such opposites. Shane is a surfer, says what he wants and isn’t afraid to confront issues head on. Ruben is a chef, does not have surfer bod, and runs from problems. These two opposites were so cute together, the caretaking of Ruben was beautiful, and Shane telling him how much he appreciated him as he was was lovely! Thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Absolutely loved this! I can relate to Ruben on how he just would rather ran away from his problems but thankfully Shane didn't give up. Shane's love for Ruben is unmatched and so sweet!
