Abigail G. Thompson has written a tale of light and darkness, a vivid contrast with a clearly defined truth. A story riddled with action, redemption, and the Light that overcomes even the darkest of nights.

Characters:
Emma is such a turmoil filled FMC and the poor thing has so many things to sort out...I love her. She is so strong, even though she doesn't believe it and I just want her to realize her true worth!
Liam! He's so strong...such a strong faith, even though he doubts he tries his best and gives his all...I want a Liam...lol...
Aalam...or an Aalam, he's so sweet! Such a dear king! I want to ease his burden! Poor guy!
Natasha! I love you! You didn't have me fooled, girl! *hugs*
Charlene!!!!!!!!!!!! So sweet!!!! So precious!!!!
Igor...my goodness! His arch....*chef's kiss* I loved his arch!

Themes:
We are never too far gone for God to save us...no matter what we've done God wants us and is pursuing us!
God's love is not conditional, it never leaves, it is healing, it makes us whole.
The darkness is not complete, that no matter how bleak it looks...there is always light, for Christ has already won! In the end, we WIN! But the sin and darkness in our times wants to distract us, lie to us, and make us believe that we will lose...but with Christ we WIN!

Language:
N/A

Romance:
Eeek! They are blossoming and I love it!!! Eek!!!

Content Warnings:
These books do have magic, though the dark magic is frowned upon and it is made clear that is the result of evil. I'm not a fan of magic in general, but it seems to me that Abigail is using magic as a more visual way to show the darkness and light.
There are a few mentions of people having been possessed and forced to kill themselves, this unnerved me and is the sole reason I've docked half a star.

Overall:
These won't be books for everyone, but I can't argue with the clear doctrine and the message of trust and Light that is within these pages.
I'm also here for book 3 because I need to know what happens next and I'm super upset about a certain aspect of the ending. I know the author will know what I mean when I say I was literally saying no over and over again this morning when I read that scene and wished I could do something to stop it from happening.

I recommend for ages 16+ and say read with caution. If suicide is an issue you are triggered by, I would pass on this one until you are in a better place mentally.

This book emotionally wrecked me. I was enthralled by the first chapter and cried through every character's tribulation a victory. This is a book I would highly recommend as Thompson paints a beautiful picture of love, forgiveness, and fighting.

If you're looking for a Christian Fantasy novel written by a young, talented author, this is the book series! This is perfect for younger readers who are just getting into the genre, but I'd recommend their parents scan the book first to make sure that the themes aren't too dark.

I enjoyed seeing how the world of Halcyon grew in this novel! The themes were more fleshed out and followed through a bit more than in the first installment. My main gripe with the book is the lack of polish in the writing. While the plot and characters are intriguing, they get left behind amongst grammatical errors and basic writing. Please note that I received an Advanced Readers' Copy in return for a review, so I don't know if any of these things have been updated for the published version.

I think the author has great ideas, but they're sometimes hard to see because she's writing about characters who are often a decade older than her. I would occasionally forget Emma's age because of the way that she would deal with situations; at times she seemed to be closer to 15 than 20. Liam, too, often felt younger than he was. While I don't think that's a criticism of the novel, it is something to keep in mind if that will bother you.

However, I do love how Christianity was incorporated into the setting of the world. It's fun to see how the characters view the Bible, and how often they turn to Scripture for their problems, particularly Liam as he evangelizes constantly to those around him.

I also want to recognize the heart behind this book! I think that Abigail tackles subjects that are difficult and prominent in this world, and more authors need to be willing to step up to the challenge. It is convicting as an aspiring author, because I look at my work and wonder what I need to change about it to realistically portray the world around me, even in a fictionalized setting. Overall, I'm excited for the third book in the series and I can't wait to see how the stories wrap up and come together! I'm rooting for Liam and Emma!

What a wonderful continuation in the series.
With twists and secrets revealed, you won't be able to stop turning the pages. I loved seeing the characters and their separate journeys and their own personal growth.
The most beautiful part of this story is the amount of faith content.
If you are looking for an adventure fantasy with a lot of strong faith elements, I recommend you pick this up.

I was given the honor to receive this sequel to the Halcyon series back in in January, but before I got into this book and honest review I needed to first read the Whispers of the Wind. And I did, and just like in my review on that book, I still feel the same about my hesitancy on the concept of the real history of Christ being so directly placed within a fantasy/fictional world. All I have really read before when it comes to Christian fiction is Narnia, where C.S. Lewis creates a fictional world with key christian themes that may not even be obvious to an unbeliever. Take Aslan for example, he is a representation of Jesus, however, Jesus is not in/mentioned in the Narnia series, but He is here in the Halcyon Epics.

I will say, the more I read and the further I come along in this story, it doesn't seem as odd as it did when I first began. Especially in Williams character. (SPOILERS, KINDA) His understanding of Christ, his prayers, and conversations about the God of the universe, are so raw, honest, and refreshing. And because of him, it had me all excited when Emma finally began to notice herself sounding like William in that way. Because that's what God does, he transforms and changes our ways of thinking, acting, and communicating. And seeing that in more ways than one in this book really had me loving and understanding more of the reason of why Christ is IN this story and not a reference through hidden themes.

SPOILERS!!
I do have to say something about the last 100 pages though... This is true for literally every book I have read, so it is not new news to any of us that the real plot, plot twists, and page turners all happen in the last 100 pages of a book. And some of the reason is to get the reader to those last 100 pages thinking what could possible go wrong or right in such a short amount of time, and some of it is to leave the reader in grater anticipation of an explanation of the crazy 100 pages in another sequel. But in these last 100 pages I honestly was kind of annoyed (this is about to sound so bad, but hear me out) on all the salvations happening in those last pages. I honestly think Natasha could have been saved near the beginning of this book and I was really hoping Emma would have been saved at the end of the last book. The only salvation that felt was right in its timing, was Igor's. Now, not only is the next book going to have to pick up and begin to unpack all the mess of war and grief of this book, but now we essentially have three new characters that will all be introduced in the next book, all reborn and starting a new life in Christ at the same time, and I just think it would have been nice to have already started the redemption story in Emma and or Natasha as believers a little sooner. But that is defiantly just a personal opinion, for I have no say or idea what the next book will have in store for each of these characters, but I am excited to see where it goes.

Overall, this series has been a joy to read and is so refreshing from what society craves and twists in fantasy fiction and romance. This story is incredibly intriguing and its Characters are so easy to love. (I am SO rooting for Natasha and Aalam.!!!)

I am still a little skeptical about how I feel about the concept of magicians and magic beings working with God however the concept and story line was really good and her mission is amazing! I loved the development of all the characters and am so angry it ended on a cliff hanger! Can't wait for book three, just prepare the tissues for the last few chapters of this one.

I want to express my overall experience while reading “The Silent Scream of the Sea.” This is no form of hate but a critical opinion. I became a fan of Abigail G. Thompson after finding her previous book, “Whisper of the Wind,” and I continue to be a fan.
I also would like to mention that this will have spoilers from the story, so please continue if you have already read the book; however, if you have not and wish to continue, genuinely know that you have been warned.
Experience
While reading the book by Abigail G. Thompson, The Silent Scream of the Sea, I found it interesting to see where the story was going. It gives us a fantasy story, having a small ounce of Magic that wouldn’t be connected to witchcraft, an exciting form of the development story of the characters being healed from their past (Which is shown by Natasha, Emma, and Igor.) The help and faith of Jesus Christ help establish Christianity within the story, showing the reader who to lean on when you were injured from your past. The characters in The Silent Scream of the Sea are not just well-written; they are deeply crafted. Each character's past and personality are intricately woven, making them relatable and endearing. Even the introduction of a new character, Igor, serves a purpose, shedding light on the corrupting influence of dark magic and the worship of Baal (Which is impressive how Ms. Thompson used the false god, Baal, since it was known to have been used to have infant sacrifice by the Canaanites). This depth of character development is what makes the book a compelling read. This book also shows the evolution of Ms. Thompson’s writing and editing skills, whereas the book before, “Whisper of the Wind” (Book 1), was quite different from before her growth in writing. Ms. Thompson has outdone herself to show that hard work pays off when you are genuinely dedicated to what you love and are passionate about. And, at such a young age, she has proved that you can be a fantastic writer no matter your age.
Problems
The book's problem was the pacing. While it’s understandable that the story must continue progressing, the characters didn’t need to be pushed to the finish line. The characters were having a bit too fast of character development. For example, Igor. While it’s known that Igor was part of the enemy against the Kingdom and the clans, it is odd that the relationship between Igor and Charlene grew fast, in four weeks (Though there was a time skip of 6 months, so perhaps there were things that have accrued). The relationship between Natasha and Alam is also odd since, at first, Natasha shows no care for Aalam and suddenly declares her love to him. It would have been pleasing to see a bit more from each relationship and a bit more built between all of them.
Also, Natasha, Igor, and Emma's quick conversion to Christianity was found a little unneeded during this book. Make no mistake; it was great to see the three who didn’t want to do anything with Christ find themselves back to Him, but when it came to pacing, it seemed it was too quick.
It also seemed that Liam isn’t war material. In the story, it appears that he lacked many things to build himself into a strong warrior of God and an inspiration to the men fighting with him. It would be pleasing to use other verses to show how diverse Liam's wisdom is, like using Psalms, Proverbs, Judges, etc.; it seemed only to use a small amount of the New Testament, which is perfectly fine. Still, in situations like war or battles and even despair, Both the New and Old Testament could have been used many times to inspire the characters and get readers to read their Bibles.
Also, the theme of Pro-Life was missing. While it’s understandable that Abortion is not a thing in this universe, since it’s set time of Magic, Knights, and Kingdoms, it should have been put in a more vital message. I did enjoy the idea, however, of adopting a child that people gave up on due to their disability was there, showing that children deserve to be loved and protected, no matter what their disability is.
Ending.
The overall score I give the book is four out of five stars. While there were some problems with it, that didn’t exclude the fact that it is a fantastic book. The characters, the world-building, and the story of all the characters were jaw-dropping and enjoyable. The author has indeed developed her writing skills, and she proved with this book that it takes time and practice to write a fantastic story. Even after being criticized, threatened, and insulted by many, she stood by what she believed in and proved it by writing this book. She made sure that this book was genuinely Christian-themed and that there was no need to make a spice story to make a good book. I say this hold-heartedly: Abigail G. Thompson is on the right path God has set her on. With how much she has put into this story and how much she has put into other projects like #Protectcleanfiction and “Image Bearers.” I genuinely believe that Abigail Thompson will be the most excellent Author within the Christian Community. No matter what goes through her path, our Lord, Yahweh, will walk next to her through it all. Continue the work you are doing.

The world needs the voices of more young authors. Abigail puts so much of herself in this series. She is a young voice but a bold voice with passion for her beliefs. This story of light is so needed in this world of ever increasing darkness, and darkness trying to masquerade as light. This is also a story of Redemption that everyone needs. For me, even as an adult, the main character of Emma is so relatable in her struggles and growth throughout this book. The natural maturing of Emma through the maturing of the the author brings a very unique circumstance that adds to the depth.

Even with such a strong voice Abigail is young and her inexperience shows. I can't say this book is perfect, because if our weaknesses are not shown to us, how can we grow. The first half of the book was tough to get through and I need time to think about what specifically about it made it hard for me. It all boils down to inexperience and the feeling of this book not being fully completed. There are many typographical/grammatical errors as well as continuity errors(darkness can only be invited in so how could the young Emma invite it?) . There are ideas and concepts she brings forward only for them to forgotten about (Emma having/learning of her power yet having none at the end. Igor is blind and deaf on one side but it has no consequence outside a brief mention). I feel if this book could have gone through another round of really critical reviews and revision it could have blossomed into a much stronger book.

I did message the author and she is going through the book with a proofreader to fix the grammatical and typographical errors.

ARC Review: I received this book as an E-book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Abigail for the opportunity to review your book!

-The writing in this book improved drastically from the first book. It flows and moves much better!
-The character growth and development is written much better and seen much easier.
-There is still some slight awkwardness between the dialogue with main characters, but I’ve come to realize it may just be the characters themselves are just awkward with each other which looking back to the first book would explain a lot.
-As I said in the review on the first book in this series: the plot/story itself is very good and very well thought out. The story really is one that is beautifully constructed and wonderfully crafted!
-Christian themes are very forefront and found very heavily throughout this book, however, I feel like she did a better job incorporating the Christian themes in this book than in the first book. However, I still feel as though in some cases it was a little forced.
-This book contains twists, secrets, and magic beyond your imagination that brings this continuation of the story to new heights!
-The book is a YA and is for those who are 14+ and I would recommend this book series!
-If you are looking for adventure, fantasy, age-appropriate (YA) romance, Christian themes, and a magical world, then this is the series for you.
-Overall, 4 stars. Great job Abigail!! I’m so impressed by the improvement from the first book to this book! I can’t wait to see what is next!

Abigail Thompson may be young, but just by her writing you'd never know it.

The Silent Screams of the Sea continues the story from her previous book, The Whispers of the Wind, builds and expands on it, immersing the reader deeper into this amazing world where the forces of light and darkness wrestle visibly on the outside and hidden in the hearts of people.

The characters grow and change, make choices and face their consequences. No one is perfect but no one has to be. Love, both conditional and unconditional, is a running theme throughout the story.

In this book we get to see more of the world Abigail has created. I rejoiced and agonized with her characters, I cried happy tears and held back sobs. Romance has never been my cup of tea, yet I found myself grinning like a fool at the well written interactions.

Abigail doesn't shy away from difficult questions about God, faith and the messy, broken world we live in. Her characters are flawed like us, sometimes hesitant and doubtful. And in the reality of those feelings, they have to choose whether to trust what they feel, or to trust what they believe. And those choices change history.

The Silent Screams of the Sea

First: make sure you read the first book, The Whispers of the Wind, before starting this one.

This book ripped out my heart several times. I cried, laughed, and cried again.

The plot thickens from the first book as deception, fear, anger, and revenge run rampant. Our characters are forced into situations that will either make them or break them. As situations separate our two main characters, Liam and Emma, they encounter many trials without the other to lean on. Their growth and change while apart is moving to see. Especially Emma. She goes through so much and really starts standing on her own.

I loved and hated this book. I hate giving spoilers. So I’ll just say that I hate it because it just ripped my heart to shreds close to the end. And the cliff hanger….I’ll be thinking about this book for a while and anxiously awaiting the next book.

Once again, the underlying message of God’s love, grace, and forgiveness is a soothing balm especially with the turns of events throughout the book. The characters are pushed to their limits and will need the help of God to get through.

Love the Halycon series. I recommend and can’t wait for the next book!

- Christian fantasy
- Political schemes
- Magic
- light vs dark
- Biblical themes
- Mental health & trauma rep
- Sweet & slow romance (clean!)
- 14+
Okay full honesty guys the first book took me a hot minute to get hooked too (which she has re-released an edited version so my complaints from my review have been fixed) BUT when I say this book was in a whole different league! Above all I got so so attached to the characters and I feel like I truly laughed and cried and fell in love with them. The character development was SO GOOD and the romance was wonderfully written I am dying to know more! I couldn't put this book down and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy!!
Also it's a really good read for anyone who has struggled with mental health issues and feeling abandoned by God (Natasha actually had me crying bc I relate to her so much). These characters are so fun and lovable but they are also so REAL and imperfect I think all of us could relate to at least one of them.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me an ARC of this book I cannot wait for book 3!!

The Silent Screams of the Sea was a brilliant sequel to The Whispers of the Wind. I am really enjoying this Christian Fantasy series. It is so relatable to the challenges we face in the real world and how choosing your perspective to view destruction can make all the difference.

In my opinion, Liam and Emma shared the spotlight with Natasha and Aalem in this book. But the character growth for Emma and Natasha especially were so beautiful to read. Liam has a relationship with God to strive towards, I loved reading the inner dialogue he has with his Father through every positive, negative or neutral experience - he is the consistent humble, noble hero and ambassador for his faith throughout this series so far.

Abigail did a great job ending on the most intense cliffhanger, I just hope she's reading to publish book three soon because I can't wait!

In one word... real.
If you're looking for Christian Fiction that's perfectly "pure," this isn't it. There's darkness, magic, mental health struggles, and heavy backstory regarding childhood trauma and assault, but this is why I loved this book! Abigail Thompson does not shy away from heavy topics, but shows that Jesus is not just for the healthy and happy "good Christians."
He is for the broken, the troubled, the hurting.
He heals.
He saves.
He can rescue people from the darkest of places.
"The Silent Screams of the Sea" is a beautiful sequel, and I had so many emotions reading this book, especially in regards to Emma's budding faith. The writing structure is not to the level I consider fantastic, but it was still engaging and worth every page, especially with the Christ-centered themes and symbolisms.
I definitely recommend!

Wow.
I loved this book!
The second book of the Halcyon Epic series continued Emma's journey, both tangible and spiritual, in an exciting sequel. This book was thrilling and enriching, and the characters developed in such a beautiful and fulfilling way.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters from the first book better, seeing their relationships grow, and meeting new characters along the way!
The spiritual aspect of the book was well-written and encouraging. I love books with Biblical themes and Christian characters, especially when we get to watch them be brought to redemption!
The ending was CRAZY and shocking and amazing at the same time!
Great story!
Can't wait for Book 3!

I read and loved how the author tries her best to create a world unique. I love the improvement of the characters and story! This is why I took my time to read and enjoy it. Emma has developed to more open and honest in ways she could in the first book.

The stories inside here have moments of rawness and tragedy. Abby, thank you for writing this story.

"The Silent Screams of the Sea" is a great continuation of "The Whisper of the Winds." It may have a few minor grammatical errors, but the story lines is amazing! I love that Abigail creates characters that are relatable to a lot of people. I love the Chriatian aspect she is able to include in the world she's created! This book was an exciting continuation of the Whispers on the Wind, I even loved it more! And that ending…. I have a love hate relationship with cliffhangers, boy was this a doozy. Real deep.
Just reel deep.
Love how God and light are more palpable than the first book.
This definitely touches some serious themes about the battle of the mind, the battle against darkness, and the past. But the message is always there: God never leaves, He never gives up on you, no matter what, no matter your past, no matter what you're struggling with. He's the answer.

I absolutely loved this book!! I loved that the Christian elements grew even bigger in this book and how much growth Emma went through! Like the first book in this series the struggle with faith felt real to what Christians truly go through. Even though it’s fiction I felt like this book helped me grow closer to God and truly felt like I was in His presence throughout the book. I cannot WAIT to see what happens next in book 3!!

This book was a very fast paced sequel that is easy to read.

I was very excited when I got picked to receive an ARC of this book and was not disappointed!

The story follows Emma Ambrose, Daughter of a clan leader, after the events of Whispers of the Wind. As well as Liam, Natasha, and Igor.

The plot was very fast paced. You're thrown back into the world and dealing with how the first book ended. I really liked how diverse this story was. Being introduced to some new perspectives allows the story to grow and makes it more interesting to read.

The characters have grown a lot since the first book. Emma still has her moments (maybe too many at times...) but it's not her whole personality, and she really grows in this book. The other characters are dealing with their own trauma, and you get to see their journeys of acceptance. Natasha was by far my favorite character. I'd love a spin off of things going on with her in the future! Liam felt very broody, but I honestly liked it a lot. He has to make a big decision, and you get to go through his emotions as he does. Igor was the best edition to this series. His character was by far the most interesting and I loved his whole story.

The writing was definitely better than the first one. I truly think that Abigail poured her heart into this. The Christianity aspect is so refreshing to see in YA books. You see every side of the story and the reasons that people reject God. It is a very prominent theme, so if that's something you like then you'll love this!

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a fast paced Christian fantasy!

(There are content warning at the beginning of this book, so definitely read them. Shoot me a DM if you want to know before hand.)

I did receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I hope one day the Christian stories and authors we read will reflect this.

If you are looking for a book similar to the Remnant Chronicles, look no further!

I happened to be reading this book at the same time as one of the books in the Remnant Chronicles series, and I kept getting confused on what world I was in. This book has all of the fantasy elements that you could want. From epic quests to battles to sweet romance, you will be caught up in this book very quickly!

I also loved how this book had mental health representation. Not only was the main character struggling with her new role in the book, but you also saw the panic attacks that resulted from this anxiety and stress she was going through.

It was also really awesome to see a fantasy book that included Christian elements into it. It is rare to find these books! If I had found this series when I was a young teenager, it would have made my day. It was so hard as a young Christian girl to find books that were appropriate for me to read, and were still interesting. This book is exactly what I was looking for eight years ago. I really hope that it touches many young lives!
