The Heist: A hard-hitting crime thriller
As Typhoon Ophelia bears down on the infamous casino hub of Macau in southern China, a research director at a top-secret Chinese bio-weapons facility is preparing to carry out a mission that might end his career but save his life. A few hours later, the scientist is dead and a devastating pathogen is locked away inside the vault of a casino owned by one of the former Portuguese colony’s most violent and ruthless criminal Triads.
Enter former SAS soldier Andrew Sterling, now working for the Regiment’s special investigative unit tasked with hunting down WMD terror threats. Sent covertly into Macau, Andrew must attempt to recover the advanced new pathogen before it is sold to one of the many terror groups actively trying to acquire high-grade bio-weapons.
With the help of an Australian convict who has been promised a shorter sentence in return for assistance, Andrew must put together a crew of shady professionals who can carry out a daring heist against the impenetrable casino vault.
However, the Triad is a formidable adversary, and its feared leader and his brutal henchmen will stop at nothing to thwart the heist and eliminate the would-be thieves. Soon, Andrew and his crew find themselves embroiled in a violent clash with the Triad. With time quickly running out, they must use every resource at their disposal to outwit and outrun the criminals before the terrifying weapon falls into the hands of terrorists.

I started reading Mr Faulkner’s books at the beginning of the year, and with each one, I’ve been more impressed. This has been my favourite so far — a fast-paced, engaging story, and honestly, who doesn’t love a good bank heist?
One character’s introduction gave me serious The Rock vibes — I half expected a Scottish accent instead of an Australian one! It was a fun, unexpected twist that added to the charm.
Looking forward to diving into the next in the series!

The latest outing for Andrew Sterling certainly does not disappoint. A high action, fast paced race against time to find a stolen biological weapon before it ends up in the wrong hands. There is a superb mix of characters that adds to the story and I enjoyed that it was all about the main character doing what he does best coming out from behind his desk.
The author keeps you turning the pages as just when you think the story is coming to an end he throws in another twist! Brilliantly written with a lot of research to bring you a story that keeps you hooked from start to finish, now I just need to wait for the next one.

A great and gripping tale.
A fast-moving story with apocalyptic consequences should the operation not succeed, and with tight time constraints. To the benefit of this book and its readability, Lex has pared down his earlier information rants.
Could do with more review. The F-type Jag was V8-powered, then a page or two later, the 6-cylinder engine was producing maximum power? There were a few losses of context too.
