This story was certainly… something. Lol. It has left me speechless. Let’s start with the things I liked.
The premise was interesting, which is the reason I read, obviously. I also like that the characters stayed faithful to their roots - as uncomfortable as a few scenes were because of that. The fact that it was a short read (I believe 109 pages) didn’t inhibit it from providing characters that you either loved, sympathised with, felt conflicted about or just plain hated. *cough* Jim Mulligan. (Apologies to any non racist Jims out there) Side note. Why does that name read racist? Author picked a good name. lol.
Both characters were good. They weren’t fantastic, but what do you expect with a short story? Still, I liked both enough to see them get their HEA. As effed up as it seems it’s going to be. 😬 Nicol, love, Zed might be a pain in the bum, but he wasn’t entirely wrong when he said what he said about how you ended up on his doorsteps. Another side note here, but hot damn. Why was that line so sexy? 😭 Zed is messed up and needs to do some more self reflection, but I had to pause the book after reading that line. Like, “Excuse me, sir (IYKYK).” That line had no business reading that line… sexy.
Zed, Zed, Zed. You still are fetishising your wife. You weren’t entirely wrong to want to put off the spice for as long as you did, because you still have some issues to work through. Which leads into the things I did not like about the story.
The spicy scene conversations. The spicy scenes were pretty good. A 3.8/5, but the conversations. The conversations might me make facial expressions I had no control over. The constant mention of things like, “I dreamt of being in the black a**” and “cum on my white d-“ This was constant. That’s a fetish and you constantly saying you’ve fallen for her doesn’t make it any less of a fetish. Despite how hot the scenes were. 😩😩 Sorry everyone, but despite those things, the spicy scenes were still pretty fans face hot.
Again, this is a short story so I can’t comment too much on character development, or the pace, but it was well paced and a quick, enjoyable read.
Let me start by saying the only reason I found this book was because I deep dived into finding a book starting with Z for my self appointed A-Z book challenge.
The premise was intriguing but it sort of felt jumpy and went from 0-100 way too quick. It lacked a substantial middle and that threw me off, even for a short story.
All in all, it’s not the worst book I’ve ever read but it could definitely do with some additional work.
Omg the covers on Goodreads don’t match Amazon! Yikes.
This was okay. Too similar to previous in the series, only I liked that one better. What made this interesting was the Hero being a former Mennonite and redhead lol.

Setting: Current time. Somewhere in the Alaskan wilderness.
Trope: Rich white male hermit rescues black female during a snow storm. Mail order bride. Marriage of convenience.
Main characters: 1. Nicol Mulligan, heroine, young college woman offering herself as a mail order bride in order to pay student loan. 2. Zedekiah "Zed" Strangeway, hero, wealthy religious male living the life of a recluse to escape his white supremaist family and to pay homage for his womanizing ways and mistreatment of black woment in particular. 3. jim, a lecherous geriatric man who paid for Nicol to be his mail order bride.
The story was interesting and Nicol and Zedekiah fell in love over the course of time by taking care of each others normal mondain needs. Zedekiah rescued Nicol from freezing to death during a snow storm and he paid off Jim and took Nicol as his bride. Zed fought his sexual urges for Nicol because of his past. His family were white surpremist and forbade interracial mixing; however, Zed had a fedish for Black women but he was abusive. In the end, Zed and Nicol had a believable romance and healthy sexual relationship. My problem with this story were references to Nicol's "gushing and pulsing black body parts yielding to his massive white sexual organ. Too much black/white references.
Zed is one freaking guy and he tries to hide everything about his past. His past has him living all the way in Alaska. Fate must have been on his side when Nicol came into his life. Everyone dreams of a man his size that will love and protect them. Nicol thought she was at the right home until it was known that she was with an old man that she was with the wrong husband. Now she has found safety with Zed and she only wants him to love her, touch her, and give her sex. Zed was everything and more to Nicol and life between them was great until Zed still refused to have sex with her. Nicol just couldn't figure out what she was doing for him not to want her. If you haven't read this book you are missing out on a lot of fun.
Nicol had tons of student loan debt her mother acquired on her behalf , she signs up to be a mail order bride in order to get it payed off . A mix up with the agency lands her in remote Alaska , in a man’s home more than twice her age who just wants to use her .
She runs , right into the arms of Zed. The reclusive handsome giant … he offers her a way out …. Marry him instead … she agrees . But after 8 weeks all she wants is his touch , they have fallen for each other :)
He puts it down and then he puts it down! This H is serious about his Bible and protecting his new wife. Said wife isn't sure how to read her savior. She maintains her distance and minimizes her 'tude to keep the peace. She's a way of him as he is of coincidences. He moves in his own time but when he makes up his mind, his wife cuts the sass and gets in line. Go 'head, Zed!
Sometimes I feel theses stories should come with a warning label example: WARNING: should be read with partner near you so you can cum as you read, or, May get you so worked up that you’re ready to either masterbate or have rough sex with partner or just anyone.
A rugged temperamental giant living in Alaska and a mail order bride find exquisite love in the wilderness of Alaska. Male dominance and prejudicial upbringing is seen throughout this story. Yet, passion and tender caring tears down walls built by such ideas. And the sex scene was so steamy that I think it started the ice to melt!🦋
The book itself was great. I love how Zed tried to resist Nicol. What I didn’t like was when Jim told Zedekiah, he spent $34,000 for Nicol and Zed said he would pay double for her, that should have been $68,000 but you somehow added it up as $78,000. Other than that, the book was great
Zed and Nicol were an interesting couple. The way they met was crazy. I love the way they found their way to each other. Nicol opened up Zed’s eyes that he could have a more fulfilling life. Their love life was extremely hot to the point of an habanero🔥🔥🔥🌶️🌶️🌶️. Great read. Onwards to the next book.
The story of Zed and Nicol was not what I expected and couldn't get fully into it. He's too demanding and she's s going with the flow. Now I did like how he wanted to make her happy at the end by leaving his hibernation house. I'll try a different book next by this author.
I have been waiting on this book! It did not disappoint either! This whole entire series has been fire! Zed is a gentle giant and Nichol is the fiesty opposite! They did well together. I can't wait for the next book! Capricorn King! Great job!
I love the Zodiac small town romance stories. Nicol and Zed were able to give each other what they didn’t know they needed Change, Love and Protection. Until he undid his belt strap. lol quick read.
I love the Zodiac small town romance stories. Nicol is exactly what Zed needed and what he didn’t think he wanted. I’m glad they both gave in and getting their HEA.
