Johnny:

Kate and I have been in virtual friendship for a decade. We have shared everything and anything, forming a deep bond, even though we never met face-to-face. Until one day, Kate vanished, leaving me feeling totally crushed. Spent years scouring the internet for any hint of her, but no luck. Until she resurfaces two years later in New York City, asking me to meet her.

When we finally meet in person, it’s like my heart is on fire. Seeing her up close, makes my heart beat in ways I’ve never experienced before. But then she reveals a dangerous her dream to be an author is on the edge because she is getting deported from the country in two weeks! And her Hail Mary play is a fake marriage. I’m floored and don’t know what to do, but one thing’s for sure—I can’t let her go through with a risky plan like that. I care about her too much. So, I make this wild promise. I tell her I’ll help her find true love and get married for real within two weeks. Sounds crazy, right? But I’ve got this massive circle of friends, so who knows what’s possible.

Kate:

Getting in touch with Johnny wasn’t easy, especially after ghosting him two years ago. But now, I have no choice; he’s my lifeline, the only shot I’ve got to fix my mess. I lay it all out—asking him to fake marry me for that sweet green card action so I can chase my author dreams. But then he tells he’s got a girlfriend! And he’s dead set on getting me into a real deal marriage and even making me fall for the guy. Little does he know, he’s the one I've been deeply, completely, and madly in love with all this time.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place, I go along with his plan, even though it’s gonna mess with my heart big time. As we dive into this crazy plan, we face the secrets we both keeping from each other. And now we must face our darkest fears and confront the dangerous people who threaten to tear us apart. Even if it means we have to die for each other, we’re in this together.

“ whatever life yields, I would die for you.”

hi and welcome to another episode of 'we love it when tropes are perfectly, harmoniously blended together':
╰┈➤
・❥ 'my wife'
・❥ pen palls
・❥ slowburn
・❥ messages
・❥ cooks for her
・❥ secret pinning
・❥ friends to lovers
・❥ marriage of convenience
・❥ buys things that remind him of her
・❥ smiles and jokes only with and for her

it was a quick and enjoyable read. I adored the way in which most chapters were clotured with non-chronological conversations they had before meeting in real life, and how they beautifully retraced their twelve years of friendship. (messages are always an addition that i adore in contemporary romances.)

the slowburn arc was well-crafted. the protagonists began their journey by trying to find a husband for the female main character. eventually, faith mingled with a lot of bad luck entered the equation and to avoid being expelled, the fmc had to marry her best friend, the male lead, as the only option left.

the second half of the narrative delved and emphazized brilliantly their transition from friends to lovers. online pen palls to husband and wife. their sexual tension was intense and intertwined with their banter, it held an agonizing connotation that had me literally hooked to every encounter, fight and cute scene.

ps: i loved how the fmc’s debut novel is 'Brave Love' which is the author’s first book 🥺

many thanks to the author for providing an arc in exchange of an honest review!!

Check the TWs before you read this to make sure it’s not going to affect you.

This is a fabulous little read for friends-to-lovers; one-bed enthusiasts; marriage of convenience/ fake marriage readers.
This was an easy-to-follow (and well developed) plot that kept me engaged throughout.
I will definitely be reading more from Ms. Golightly!

2.5 ⭐️. Let’s be clear here… I don’t read a book because of writing style or anything like that. I read it because it makes me feel good, and this book did that. I love a good friends to lovers. Like i devour them, And this one had potential. A lot of it. It wasn’t for me though. Some of the story was unclear and the story line moved to fast with big gaps in them. But I enjoyed it! It was cute.

I have yo be honest, this book read like it was written by AI.

I tried to like it, but the character development was sloppy. The back and forth was lacking any sort of connection.

This book was so cute. I loved the slow burn and the back and forth. I also loved the chapters with the texts from their online relationship. I was infuriated with the characters for not sharing their feelings to each other, but that made the book so good too! And the fake marriage, yess!!!

Now for the cons (yes I had very few things I disliked), the author used the word “palpable” at least 15 times. And some of the words for the spicy scenes… I’m being hypercritical, but I can’t take some of the words seriously. Also, Johnny was being such a drama queen at the end. But he came around.

Overall, this book was really cute and I loved the best friends to lovers! The characters were cute and I loved their banter.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I really enjoyed this book! I tried my best to spread out reading it so I could enjoy it longer! It was a very sweet story about falling in love and friendship. The plot was good and the author did an amazing job of drawing out the tension in the right places which just added to the reading experience. Overall, a great read with a few trigger warnings to be aware of to ensure it is the right book for you.

This is an ARC review.
This is a fun story of two long distance friends. When she needs to be married to stay in the country, well he will do anything to keep her here. This is a hilarious romance of two people who fight to fall.

Absolutely amazing storyline but it’s not well written. It is written like a Wattpad story. But if you can put up with that it is worth the read

Dnf'd at about 10%. The banter back and forth is nice, it just feels a little to cheesy for me. Maybe I will give it another go later down the road.
