But was it truly working? My case exposed it as nothing more than a sham. Would the CIA and the IC attempt to rectify the situation? Did they genuinely desire to fix the broken system? Or would they persist in employing their illegal bullying tactics to silence whistleblowers? I was determined to take action, offering them an opportunity to correct their behavior.” —From The Broken WhistleThe Broken Whistle is a searing exposé that unveils a chilling chapter in American history, a narrative meticulously recounted by Pedro Israel Orta. Every American needs to read this book. Every. Single. One.
If you still believe our government has our best interests at heart, think again. Donald Trump (no, this is NOT a book about Donald Trump) believed that the “alphabet agencies,” the CIA, FBI, NSA, DOJ, etc., were led by scoundrels, but that the rank-and-file workers were good people trying to do good work to serve their country. He was wrong.
Mr. Orta lived, and now tells, a story that shines the light on a government that is rotten from the opulent offices of our National Royalty – Senators and Representatives; to the plush “corner offices” of the Agency Heads; all the way to the dingiest cubical of the lowest civil servant. Incompetence, corruption, coverup, and retribution rule the system. Yes, there are pockets of quality, some individuals who pursue excellence, but they are the exception.
You may – accurately – shrug and say, “Yes, well, welcome to Corporate America.” But this isn’t corporate America. These are the people and agencies tasked with keeping this country safe. When incompetence rules in the corporation, the stockholders lose a few bucks. When incompetence rules in these agencies, people die. How many people have died, or had their lives destroyed, because their bosses were more interested in their own power, prestige, and security?
We will probably never know the answer to that question, but Mr. Orta has focused an unflinching spotlight on the abuses of power taking place, not just with Taxpayer money, but in the Taxpayer’s name. Funds are wasted, lives are lost, and our national security is endangered, in MY name. And YOUR name. Does that make you angry? It should.
To quote Mr. Orta, “Our greatest challenge lies not solely in the malevolence of the wicked, but in the collective silence and inaction of those who recognize the power of the good yet choose to remain passive. It is time for all of us to rise, speak up, and take resolute action.”
Finding a way to get involved and make changes is not easy, but we must take every opportunity to stand up, to speak, and to act, before it is too late. Mr. Orta has given us a great gift at great personal cost to produce this book to inform and motivate us. Read it.
Full disclosure: I am a friend of Mr. Orta and his wife.
