I only recently discovered Peter Pye. Lin and Larry Pardey mention reading his writing in one of their own books.
Peter Pye has become my favorite cruising travel author. His writing style is very lighthearted and he writes with tremendous wit and humor. His style is very similar to that of Miles Smeeton, who probably influenced Pye's writing, although what is nice about Peter Pye is that he does not focus on the sailing aspects, but seems to describe the sailing in passing and instead focuses on the travel, spending most of his time describing the people that he meets along the way and the exotic locations that they visit.
I passed this book on to my wife, who is not a sailor, and she also tremendously enjoyed it. I found her laughing out loud at some points.
