Has a few too detailed bits in between. Not so much information on historic events, but more personal, people and character based histories. Great illustrations that not only complement the text well, but are also form a great collection of the paintings and material culture of the time.
Interesting book, that I came across in my friend's house. I was explaining about Robert Clive to someone, And later that afternoon I come across a book. It has parts about him. I'm familiar with most of the history, however –– It was good to see through the lives of British Women, Anglo-Indian society.
I would recommend this to someone who is travelling, and wants a light reading on British India.
Good book to "read" while I had the flu: lots of pictures. The text recounts the experiences of (mostly) Britons who left some kind of record of their experiences in India, strung together on a thin historical timeline. Pretty light fare, but like I said, I had the flu.
While I didn't learn very much more than I already knew, with the exception of learning a bit more about Fanny Parkes, the pictures were very expressive.
