The only thing hotter than the coffee spilled down her jeans is the man responsible for it.
When aspiring writer Hillary James escapes to New York City, she’s ready to find herself and inspiration for her first novel. Instead, inspiration collides with her and her latte, and she finds herself becoming fast friends with the charming and talented actor Dalton Tremaine.
Hillary can tell Dalton her secrets—all the messy reasons she left her small town in the first place. He’s been searching for a meaningful connection, and Hillary grounds him in a way that no one else in New York has been able to. He loves her easy-going nature, and she loves that he accepts her exactly as she is.
Hillary begins to feel like she can finally let go of her past and write a new chapter with Dalton as her leading man. That’s why she can’t tell him the one secret she’s been holding on to since they first bumped into each other. Will their story end in heartache, or will she get her happy ending?
The list of dream careers Megan had in elementary school goes something like this:
*mail carrier *tooth fairy *writer
After writing bad poetry and The Famous Jett Jackson fanfic throughout her teens, Megan took a break from writing after college to start a family and pursue a career. She drafted her first novel (yet to be released) over the span of six years. When she should have been editing that, she fell in love with the romance genre and wrote Coffee Dates. She's excited to share joy and love and happily ever afters with the world through Coffee Dates, Ship Mates and her upcoming novels.
Megan received an Honorable Mention in the NYCMidnight 100 Word Microfiction Challenge, placing in the top 20 writers out of a starting field of more than 6,000. Her short story "Going for the Gold" was also published as the Contest Winner in Elegant Literature's All That Glitters edition.
An incredible debut by a local author - I can’t wait to read her second book! Megan’s writing style felt intimate and familiar, like all my favorite romance writers in one. Yet she still manages to bring a fresh perspective to the genre.
Set in both New York City (one of my favorite locations for contemporary romance novels) and the countryside, this story was a beautiful blend of exciting new beginnings and comforting nostalgia. I deeply related to the character’s love for the vibrant city culture alongside her appreciation for the peaceful simplicity of a small town. And the love story felt down to earth with a perfect sprinkle of romance magic that us readers adore.
I can’t wait to share this book with all my friends, who will surely resonate with it in the same way that I did!
Perfect beach read!! Loved Hillary’s character so much and I was definitely rooting for her and Dalton the whole time! It was such an enjoyable read- I laughed, I swooned, I cried- it was so cute!! Definitely recommend for those who love a good romance (and coffee and New York)!
I could not put this book down! My only complaint is that I finished it and wish there was more Dalton and Hillary! I loved the story, the humor, the heartache. It is a MUST read for die-hard romance readers.
I loved this book, from the laugh out loud moments to the more tender ones. The characters were easy to connect with and rooted for them to end up together the whole way through. I was invested in the story and the characters, and loved the way the author tied all the pieces together with s sweet ending. Highly recommend!
An incredible debut novel. Megan Becker will find herself on the NYT’s best sellers list in her lifetime! Please do yourself a favour, pick up this book so that you can fall madly in love with her writing and the beautiful characters that gave life to every page.
Hillary James and Dalton Tremaine are the slow burn you didn’t know you needed in your life. The perfect read to cozy up with this winter, hot coffee (or tea) in hand!
Coffee Dates was a wonderfully written book which I fell in love with from page one. The author is extremely talented and I felt a very serious connection to the book with every turn of a page. The writing style was very pleasant and the plot was never predictable. I never got bored while reading it and there was nothing that I would rather have spent time reading than Coffee Dates.
From the moment I opened this book, I was captivated.
Megan Becker's debut novel simply does not disappoint.
I cannot say enough good things about this story of friendship, love, and self-discovery.
The relatable, dynamic characters will have you experiencing every laugh, tear, and pulse-pounding moment as if it were your own. The palpable chemistry between Hillary and Dalton is impossible to resist. Their every exchange is filled with fiery, quick-witted banter that will leave you craving more.
I was so blown away by this story. I just can't wait to see what Megan Becker does next.
Megan kicked it out of the park with her Coffee Dates book. Absolutely loved Dalton and Hillary. Even though Samantha might surprisingly be my favorite character. Dalton's parents made me smile. Would love a book on their love story. I love NYC and loved a book written with this beautiful, busy city as the backdrop.
Do you love NYC, theater, coffee or swoony male characters? Do you love a good, strangers to friends to lovers trope? Then you’ll definitely want to read this one!!
This was such an enjoyable read about a woman named Hillary escaping her small town and her problems to spend 2 months living with her best friend in NYC in hopes of finding inspiration for her writing. On her first day in the city, as she’s leaving a coffee shop, a stranger bumps into her and spills her coffee. He then offers to buy her a new drink and they end up spending the entire day together. This stranger happens to be Dalton Tremaine, a Broadway star who Hillary has followed and loved watching for a long time. She doesn’t reveal this information to him though, because he is enjoying being able to be himself around someone who isn’t treating him like a celebrity.
After their day together, Hillary returns home to her friend Lindsay, thinking this was a one time encounter and that she would never see Dalton again, but then she realizes she left her backpack in one of the coffee shops they visited. When she returns the next morning, the owner gives her a card and Hillary has to go Dalton’s apartment to get her backpack back. This leads to a friendship forming and many more dates together where Hillary questions why someone like Dalton would want to spend time with her.
I love the way Megan Becker describes the city feel and the small West Virginia town where Dalton grew up. I felt like I could picture everything so well from Becker’s descriptions.
I feel like this is the perfect beach read. This has lighter, fun moments, but it also has some deeper themes as Hillary faces her past and the events she has been running away from. It’s nothing too dark tho! The characters feel real as they navigate their relationship.
