Roots and Branches is a family history of Irish and German immigrants in the nineteenth century who settled in Indiana and Illinois. The focus of this history is the branch that had its roots in Ottawa, Illinois, at the confluence of the Illinois and Fox Rivers, and flowered further up the Fox River in Geneva, Illinois. This book provides as much genealogy of the immigrant generation as is currently (2023) available, followed by memories of them and three subsequent generations from an octogenarian of that fourth generation. What unfolds is an intimate look at life in Illinois during the late-nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as experienced by a particular family, with its challenges, humor, and love.
