Well..I..liked it? I don’t know. I’m not familiar with chinese fictions at all so I don’t know where to start.
I didn’t vibe with how it was written. It just felt too simple, like a journal of some sort. At first, I thought that feeling had to do with the way it was translated, but the translation was pretty good so.. ye..probably the way it was written. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it. It was creepier and wayyyy more bloodier than the series, which kinda excited me and kinda kept me going. And I liked the fact that there were a lot of details that were not the same as the ones in the series even though the plot stayed pretty similar. So even if you watch the series before you read, it’s still pretty fun and entertaining. However, at times, this book felt like it was written by a 12yo..
RUAN LANZHU, holydamn. I didn’t expect that much sassiness from him. Like he was pretty damn sassy and a lot of a drama queen in the series, but series’ ruan lanzhus got absolutely nothing on book’s ruan lanzhu. And I digged that. A lot.
