The hunt for answers takes Emelda and Kane deep into the heart of danger.

A place untamed.
Treacherous.
And deadly.
They've gone to Canada.

Time is running out for Kane. His human body is rapidly aging, and he must unlock secrets that can transform him back into a wolf before it’s too late. Only Cal Davis holds the key.

And their “pack of two” is not the only one searching for Cal.

But they have a lead.

Dr. George Fineman has known Cal since he was a boy and has been quietly helping him survive in the British Columbian forest. If Kane and Emelda can convince Fineman to reveal Cal’s hideaway, they will finally get the solution they seek.

However, in the forest, eyes watch from every shadow.

And as they hunt for answers, Kane and Emelda discover something else is hunting them.

Kane Unleashed
By Dick Wybrow
This book picks up where book 1 ended. It is even better than book 1, and I didn't think that was possible! There are monsters to fight, clues to follow, groups of bad guys to avoid, Kane's brother to find, all without dying.
This is full of action, suspense, lots of wit, and heavy sprinkled throughout with humor. I truly enjoyed it. Can't wait for the next book!

I enjoyed this second book in the series. Kane and Emelda flee to Canada, trying to find Kane's brother and the doctor that can maybe help them change Kane back. Back in the states, they are engaging in yet another battle with the bad guys after them when a mysterious helicopter arrives. Supposedly from the good guys, they sweet talk Kane into coming with them, to see if they can reverse his situation. Left alone, Emelda realizes that instead they will also be wanting to do experiments on him instead. Book three should have Emelda searching for wherever they took Kane, so she can rescue him.

I am reborn. I am a hunter. I am powerful.

OK, before we do the whole review thing - and I am somewhat tempted to copy/paste my comments from Book 1 just to save a little Christmas Day time - I do think that "Kane Unleashed", the 2nd of Dick Wybrow's "Wolfwere Series" - is a slightly better book than the first go-round. I'm still not ready to fling out a full 4-star rating, but instead of 3 1/2 stars this one gets a whopping 3 3/4 stars from me. Indeed, by delving a bit deeper into, well, the main characters' humanity - yes, including Kane's - a bit more, the experience seemed to be, for lack of a better term, much richer. Also, moving ahead, albeit a little bit slowly, with what is behind all these ch-ch-changes made for a more interesting read.

Did that dog just say bark?

Having said that (I did, just look above), this new book suffers from some of the same aspects that I thought kind of held the first chapter back. The full book pacing - that is, how it flowed at the beginning vs. the middle and then compared to the end - was uneven. Still, within a given section, things seemed to work okay. And I'm still not going to give an overwhelming endorsement of these quick chapterlets. They just make me think of cheesy American spy/science/etc. books that you buy only because you're in an airport and if you leave it in the seatback on your way out, well, that's life. I mean, come on: 296 pages ÷ 73 chapters works out to just over 4 pages a chapter? I write longer social media posts than this - and, please, those of you that know this to be true, be nice!

Alas, wolves do not have Facebook. However, from what I have read there, a few may have X-Twitter.

And even if you'd prefer to leave math out of the discussion, the ending to this sojourn through Canada and even the great state of Iowa (was it Iowa? Or Idaho? I always get those confused…) was far too abrupt. For such a major, major change in events AND the attitude towards same, it really kind of went like a high-voltage flash set up to a really paranoid home security system! And don't get me started on the moonbeam generators! Those might come in handy down the road, eh? A quick zap and viola! 8-foot tall killing machine at your service!

I see he is wearing a ball cap, turned backward. My reservations about killing this man instantly vanish.

Look, I said it last time and I'll say it again here: this was a good book. Not Top of the Pops great, but very, very readable and the author has some real skillz (gosh, I feel so street!). The action was better this time, yes, so that was good, too. Plus, like I said, bringing up events both from the past and the present (and most likely the future, too) was a big bonus. And some of the humor worked better even though I wouldn't call it all that funny. No LOLs or ROFLs but sure, a bona fide grin or two should be had by all. It is indeed though very light reading and borders even on the absurdly predictable if I can phrase it that way. Which of course makes it immediately suitable to be optioned by NETFLIX for a series (see my last review for casting recommendations)!

One day, I will drop it like it’s hot, and the world will rejoice.

Maybe I've just come to a point in my yearly reading endeavours where just about any story-line might appear to be so but again, full of surprises this was not. Still, I have no intention of stopping here! I've timed it almost exactly right - it's nearly 20h my time so technically in 4 hours I can directly download Book 3 and we can see just how glorious or even gorious this all plays out! As far as wolfwere or werewolf or whatever Chiweenie-esque blend might be your favorite, at the end of the day, it is good fun! Enjoy!

I really, really enjoyed this book. Blew through it in less than two days! The action was incredible, the banter was charming and the humor was great. There's just one big problem I have that is absolutely bugging the crap out of me... spoilers below.

Why, just WHY in this wide world would Kane have gotten on that helicopter?? And why did Emelda let him??? I know he's desperate for a cure, but they trusted Isla way too easily. Neither of them are stupid- well, they do some dumb things, but this was beyond any of their previous mistakes. This was the mother of all mess-ups. The matriarch of all foibles. The... well, you get the idea.

Just seems like it was a rush job to have a hook into a third book. Maybe we can blame the publishing industry for that. Always rushing. I don't know, but it won't stop me from continuing the series.

All in all, this was a great book, and I really love reading about Kane and Emelda's adventures together. Can't wait to get the next one!

Kane Unleashed by Dick Wybrow
Wolfwere Series Book Two
Kane, a wolf bitten by a man who turned human. If the moonlight hits him…who knows what he’ll be: a pug, a rottweiler, maybe a poodle or some other type of dog. It was during one of those times, when he was a small dog being beaten, that he met Sad Girl, who turned out to be Emelda Thorne. He hired Emelda to drive and read for him because he’s not good at it.
Emelda’s life wasn’t going so well before she met Kane, so now at least she has a good income. The things she’s done since meeting Kane are pretty unusual, but what else does she have in her life besides fighting monsters and keeping her boss alive so she has a job?
In this second book, they continue their search for Cal Davis, the man who bit Kane. It leads them to Canada. It seems enemies are awaiting them around every corner, and the answer to how to return Kane to his natural wolf state keeps evading them.

Q & A & Q

Book 2 in the Wolfwere series. More great humor and poking fun at Canadians, but in a good way. The majority of this book takes place in Canada, and Emelda makes it sound like we are all nice (some of us are not) and that we know everyone (we do not; I don’t know Steve in Halifax, sorry, I barely know my neighbours). This book gives us a few more answers, and then more questions. A few problems are solved, but then other problems are created from that. You don’t know who’s on the right side, and once you think you’ve figured something out, you get thrown another wrench (or a loving dog). I don’t like how it ended (it was a good ending, and it makes me want to dive into the next book right away), but it makes me lose a little more faith in humanity (I know it’s a book and not real), how easily people will lie to others to get what they want. Very good book! Very well written. Kept me engaged from start to finish and wanting the next book.

Kane Unleashed

Book 2 in this series takes off where book 1 ends. Emelda and Kane return to Kane’s home on the track of Cal Davis. Hounded by Gregor and his mercenaries they are in a race to find Cal before others do so. We learn quite a lot about how Cal became the creature he is and a little about both the Organisation and Covenant, rivals in the search to create a supersoldier.
Although these are dark stories there is also humour in them with Kane providing an unusual perspective on humanity, with some of his observations being almost to “nail on the head” about how horrifically we treat our fellow man and the abuse we inflict upon the planet.

Hated to put it down!!!

I am a slow reader and it tends to frustrate me because I am also not very patient. This book had me reading for hours, and angry that I had to put it down. I would read while eating, and almost be late back from my lunch break because I wanted to stay and read!!! Evil! Mr Wybrow you are a sorcerer of words. You have created these characters and made them real. I am so drawn into the story that iI can almost feel the story. Amazing!! Buying book three now!

And the adventure continues

I loved going on this adventure with Kane and Emelda. This book is funny, witty, and filled with mystery and intrigue. I love how Man is becoming a little more human, despite himself. All the twists and turns are exciting, and just when you think you've got it figured out...wham another twist. I've also never laughed so hard. The banter between Emelda and Kane is priceless. I also love watching their friendship grow. I can't wait to read book 3 after that ending.

Excellent 2nd Book

I'm really digging this series and it's odd take with a werewolf that's actually a wolfwere. (Long explanation, read the first one.) The mystery and action are spot on and the humor is laugh or giggle out loud funny. We find out a lot more about what's going on, but there is still more to go.
As I said, a very pleasurable read and follow up. Greatly recommended.

This is an incredible series!

The first book was absolutely riveting, and now this second one has added unexpected elements that make it even more suspenseful. Still, there's so much humor, joy, and friendship throughout that I laughed as much as I (quietly) swore!
My sister's threatening to review, not the book, since she hasn't read it, but my reactions to it, since I kept interrupting her own reading! I couldn't help it, this series is just that good!

Good story

There were no cat abuses in this book. Good job there. Interesting story. Wolf becomes a man who changes into a variety of canines, from pug to wolfwere and all between. Two organizations fighting each other to be the one that controls the world are making life hell for Emelda and Kane. But to be fair, Emelda and Kane are making a pretty good dent in their bubble of happiness too.

Wow! It Just Gets Better

What an awesome read! Even though its out there a tad its such an excellent adventure. Perhaps its off the wall but who's to say exactly what goes on behind the scenes in our world? If you have an imagination this series is for you. If not you're probably going to be the sceptic in the crowd. Me? Well I need to see what becomes of Kane and Emelda.

Oh, I love this series!

So much action, excitement and danger!
Watching Kane experience and adjust to a life with never ending changes; indeed his evolution is gripping. Those changes are profound, creating a new self identity and he's not sure he likes it.
It ends in a cliffhanger, but I'm not even made about it this time.
I will get the next book immediately!

Kane and Emelda

Ok, Book 2 had me with tears in my eyes - took me a few days to get through it because it was more emotional than the first - at least for me it was.

I was a little angry that we finally got to meet Cal only to have him ripped from the story😠.

Overall it was a good read!!!

Sheer adrenaline fueled wolfwere craziness

This story just keeps getting crazier and crazier. Emelda and Kane are on the right track of hunting down Cal, but just when they think they have figured things out, their live are in danger and turned upside down again. Over and over it happens. They just can’t catch a break. But I do love Kane as a gooood boooy!

Into the Wolfwere Maze

Suspenseful and entertaining, this 2nd book of the series draws you deeper into the world of evil scientists, power mad bad guys, and Kane the once wolf. There is humor in the different changes caused by moonlight, but our hero and his driver, Emelda, tackle every setback that comes to their pack of two. Stay tuned, there's a bit of a cliff-hanger ending.

Love this series

A breathtaking ride to keep you turning the page. The story is one of constant suspense and action with intermittent snark and some dark comic relief. Watching Kane's soul journey and "humanisation" is a fantastic extension to the plot. Highly recommended.

Intense and funny

If you like action and sardonic humor, this is a story for you. Think werewolf of London meets the Terminator. Wybrow describes some characters so well that I laughed out loud. I can't tell you why without spoilers.
