Baby Jesus ... and Santa ?? Yes!!!

For parents who have concerns about balancing the truth about Jesus' Nativity with their child(ren)'s enthusiasm for Santa, this book is the perfect tool to bring balance and harmony with faithfulness!!! This is a great bedtime book for when the children are settled in to listen, but it is quite engaging for children of all ages!! It should be in every Christian home with children and read a few times each year as the children grow! Its a book children will remember then when they have children of their own! And that is perfect!!
And perfect illustrations and story details too to engage children's attention!!

A Beautiful Story is a lovely children's book with gorgeous illustrations and a heartwarming message about the importance of giving. It's a book parents can feel good about giving to their young readers, and it's a story that will bring joy and happiness to families who read it together.
The book tells the story of the birth of Jesus and why Christmas goes hand-in-hand with that. It also tells the story of St. Nick, the man that Santa Claus is based on. He was a follower of Jesus and enjoyed giving to families. Both Jesus and St. Nick are important to Christmas, and this story teaches kids about both without giving away any secrets. It also teaches kids that giving is more important than receiving, especially when it can help bring a smile to someone else's face, and bring some joy into their life.
I do believe this book is a must-read for all families, and it would make a lovely holiday tradition to read it each year and remind us all that both Jesus and St. Nick (and their desire to give and bring joy and happiness to others) are the real reasons for the Christmas season.

Not a Good Idea . . .

This illustrated bedtime story contains colorful drawings throughout to capture the mood of what the book characters, Blair and CJ, are hearing as their mother tells them about Jesus and Saint Nicholas. Bible verses are quoted to support the discussion of Jesus’ birth and His purpose in coming into the world. The children’s mother then continued with a partially historical account followed by the fictional embellished story that claimed 300 years after Jesus’ birth, where a baby was born in Turkey and named Nicholas, who grew up loving Jesus and studying the Bible to learn more. He became a bishop in the church and then later was called Saint Nicholas, inspired by Jesus to give generously to others, especially children. And for some families, he allegedly filled their stockings with coins. Fictional stories based on this historic person were inspired from the actions of this man. Saint Nicholas was given the Dutch nickname Sinterklaas. So today, we call him Saint Nick or Santa Claus. He is real, they are fictional.

The basis of the development of the Santa Claus story is that Nicholas was a priest or bishop currently in a town where a resident had lost all of his money. The man had 3 unmarried daughters and could not provide a dowry required to marry them off so they would be cared for. His only choice would have been deplorable for his daughters and he did not want to choose that fate for them. Nicholas decided to intercede by using money he had inherited from his wealthy parents and he tossed a bag of gold through the window. The man used the money to marry his oldest daughter off. Nicholas repeated this twice more for the other two daughters. The third time he was seen by the father who recognized him and the stories spread. This isn’t in the book, but it’s part of how the fiction began.

Both Jesus and Nicholas are beyond loving and generous. It is important to realize that the story of Jesus is real and in the historical records. Saint Nicholas is also a real person and a bishop, very active in promoting the church, sometimes very aggressively. But Santa Claus, based on Nicholas, is a story character based on the real person. But to put them together in a book is not a good idea from my perspective. “Santa” is a jolly man flying through the sky in a gift-laden sled pulled by flying reindeer, guided by Rudolph’s shining red nose. It is a delightful image for a child. But it puts Jesus and Nicholas, persons who actually lived, in the same category as our beloved fictional character in the child’s eyes if you link them this way. That is not where they belong. These were actual persons who did amazing things and should not be thought of in the same manner as Santa. This is not a book I would promote as a family tradition. Stick to “The Night Before Christmas” as the bedtime story.

My kids love books and they love Christmas. They both know the true meaning of Christmas but we also bring the joy of gift giving from Santa in our home. Recently, we have been researching St. Nicholas since in Germany my grandmother celebrated St. Nicholas Day on December 6th. I knew this book would be received well by my kids.

The book takes place on Christmas Eve, the children have put out cookies and milk for Santa. Their mother reads them a bedtime story, she tells of the story of Jesus. God’s gift to us and then she also tells of St. Nicholas and his love for Jesus. She tells how he wanted to bless others without them knowing and the legend of St. Nick was developed.

The book is hardcover, and the pages are sturdy. The illustrations are beautiful and accompany the story well. The story can be read by a child who is 7-8 years old but it can be enjoyed by children of all ages. It contains scriptures and the story of St. Nick. There are no spoilers of Santa if as a parent you are worried about that.

I think this book is a great addition to our home library and will definitely be in the rotation of Christmas books we read.

**I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

Jesus and St. Nick truly is a beautiful story. Sarah French ties the Biblical story to the story of Santa Claus, telling how St. Nick got his start. She seems to understand the perspective of the two children. She has captured the point of view of a toddler as well as the big sister who is a couple years older. The mom is also a very real character - she does her best to compromise between her children while reminding them about sharing as well as teaching them about Jesus and Santa Claus.
Parents who want to “do” Santa Claus but don’t want their children to forget the reason for Christmas will appreciate this story.
Robert Sauber’s illustrations are beautiful. They do an excellent job of complimenting the text.
Because Santa in the story is involved Christian school librarians will need to decide if the book fits with their school’s policy surrounding Christmas. The book is appropriate for preschoolers and early elementary children.
I received a complimentary copy of A Beautiful Story of Jesus and St. Nick. This is my honest review.

This story, A Beautiful Story Jesus & St. Nick by Sarah French, is an amazing way to educate your children about the true meaning of the season without leaving out a beloved Christmas favorite: Santa! 🎅🏻

Even including some scriptures, the book breaks it down and puts into words easy enough for children to understand how Christ was born and is God’s gift to all- the best gift: Eternal Life! ✨

And to continue on, the book further explains that St Nick was born and grew up studying the Bible as a young child. As a follower of Christ, children are able to see that St. Nick got his inspiration for giving gifts and not receiving in return, from the example of Christ.

The story is quite touching and teaches more than these important topics but also that it’s better to give than to receive!

The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and I will cherish this book for the children in my life! ❤️

Overall, I rate this:

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy from iRead Book Tours. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

When Blair and CJ get ready for bed on Christmas Eve, their bedtime story is about celebrating the birth of Jesus and how Santa is important to Christmas as well. Saint Nicholas was a bishop in the country now called Turkey. He gave gifts to others, especially children, and used his money to help others. He was an ambassador for Jesus.

This is a great book to read with Christmas coming. It has illustrations that children will love, and the story should keep their attention. Who doesn’t like to hear about Christmas?

It’s important that children learn the reason for the season. They also need to know that Santa is about more than receiving presents on Christmas morning. This is a book that I’ll be reading a lot for the next three months, and I’m sure occasionally after Christmas until next year!

A Beautiful Story: Jesus & St. Nick by Sarah French

Illustrated by Robert Sauber

This is such a sweet children's story.  It tells how Jesus and Santa are related to one another, remembering the reason for the season and the joy of giving.  It can be hard sometimes for Christian children to reconcile the two concepts, and this laid out the relationship in a sweet and easy to understand way.  It also teaches how it's better to give than to receive, while also incorporating a few Bible verses to help tie it all together.  It was a sweet story, and I will absolutely be reading it to my little one.  Thank you so much to iReadBookTours for my copy!

QOTD:  When do you start getting ready for Christmas?  I'd love to say I start prepping early, but I'm usually not fully ready until mid December.

This is a beautiful book, both inside and out, the illustrations work great with this story. For younger children, you are able to tell the story through the beautiful and detailed pictures. I read this with my 9 year old granddaughter, we both read a page each and she found it easy to read. The book tells you the story of what Christmas means, it tells you about how St Nick was a really person and how he gave presents. The author has added her children and dog to the story which I thought made the story special. We will be reading this book through December as it's a book that can be read over and over again for many years. If you want your child to know how and why we have Christmas this is the book you need

I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you Sarah French and iRead Book Tours. I'm excited to be a part of this tour.

A Beautiful Story Jesus & St. Nick is the delightful story that explains the intersection of Jesus and St. Nick. What I love most about this book is that Sarah wrote this for her children so they would have a written history of their Christmas tradition.

Set on Christmas Eve, Mommy tells Blair and CJ that it’s time to go to bed. They ask to hear the story of Jesus and St. Nick. Jesus was born first, and the Christmas holiday was born. Mommy explains how St. Nick is just as important because he was a bishop in what we call Turkey today. He was a follower of Jesus, and thus found job in giving gifts to others, especially children. He also gave of his time and money to those who were less fortunate.

The illustrations are gorgeous, and I think this book is an excellent conversation starter for the meaning of the Christmas season. The book is well written, and the illustrations bring the story to life. The book is engaging the bible passages used resonated with me as I love giving gifts and showing those closest to me how much I love them.

I hope to read more from Sarah French. I love to see a series about her children and their other traditions!

What a lovely story of the melding of Jesus, the reason for the season, and the story of St. Nick! My 4 1/2 year old granddaughter loved the book! She knows about Santa/St. Nick and is learning about the birth of Jesus at school. It is refreshing to have a Christian inspired book about the correlation between the birth of Jesus and the tradition of Santa that children can relate to. The illustrations are beautiful.

This book is about a mother telling her children the story of Saint Nicholas and Jesus. I felt like the story of Jesus and Saint Nicholas got distracted by the story of telling a story. I would have liked to read and see more pictures of the subjects and less of the children and their dog jockeying for position with mommy.

I adored A Beautiful Story: Jesus & St. Nick by Sarah French. I love how it tells the story of the birth of Jesus, as well as, the real story of Saint Nicholas. I found this book to be a precious read for children to learn the history of the reason for the season and how Santa Claus became to be. There are Bible verses and prayers included that teaches children. I thought it was just what the title says, A Beautiful Story. I believe it would be a perfect addition for the annual Christmas time reading from the youngest to the oldest of readers. I loved it.

A Beautiful Story: Jesus & St. Nick is beautifully illustrated by the talent artist Robert Sauber. I thought his vivid pictures were a wonderful addition to this book and a perfect way for it to continue to grab the littlest of readers attention.

I am giving A Beautiful Story: Jesus & St. Nick a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who are between the ages of three and ten. I would love to read more books by the talented Sarah French in the future to find out what other beautiful stories she creates for her fans.

I received a hard cover copy Sarah French’s of A Beautiful Story: Jesus & St. Nick from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

This book is a great choice for anyone who wants their children to know the true story of Christmas but still experience the magic that comes from believing in Santa Claus. Author Sarah French tells the sweet story of a brother and sister who are told that the special baby that was born at Christmas was truly the greatest gift ever given. CJ and Blair learn that the birth of Jesus Christ was the inspiration for the gift-giving tradition that we still enjoy today. Saint Nicholas's desire to give gifts at Christmas may have started in Turkey, but it's now practiced worldwide. Santa Claus may be a symbol of this gift-giving tradition but the act itself is based on a noble idea!

A Beautiful Story Jesus & St. Nick is truly a beautiful story for young people! There are gorgeous illustrations to capture their attention and an enjoyable story to keep them entertained, but there's also an abundance of Bible scripture that relates the true reason for the season. Perhaps it can even lessen the struggle of Santa Claus versus NO Santa Claus! I love this book and I believe that reading it as a family will become a new holiday tradition!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via iRead Book Tours. There was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

"A Beautiful Story: Jesus & St. Nick" is such a sweet and meaningful children’s story. I love how it embraces the legend of St. Nicholas without doing a disservice to the true meaning and gift of Christmas.

Siblings CJ and Blair learn about the true meaning of Christmas, the importance of giving, and the sources of holiday traditions. With adorable illustrations, the stories of Jesus’s birth and St. Nicholas’s gift giving shares the love and values taught in Scripture and stresses the beauty of the ultimate gift of salvation.

I believe this is the first children’s book I’ve read that blends St. Nick with scriptural offerings and full respect and reverence to the birth of Jesus. This colorful and entertaining picture book shares a truly beautiful story that makes a memorable holiday reading tradition.

First Line: On Christmas Eve, Blair and CJ were frosting the cookies they’d baked for Santa.
