Applied to the College of Arts, but was rejected. While working part-time at a transportation company, he got an interested in manga magazines, and between age 18 and 19, he started submitting to Weekly Young Magazine. In 1997, he debuted with "Japanese Government Maneuver Sqaudron Coumin V". In 1999, his "God's Animal Mountain", won the Chiba Tetsuya Award. In 2004, he began "Moyasimon: Tales of Agriculture" in Kodansha's Weekly Evening magazine, which then brought him a level of fame. After "Moyasimon: Tales of Agriculture" he started his work on "Junketsu no Maria", which became another success.
He is known for drawing fine details in a very thin line, something that he seems to do unconsciously and doesn't use assistants to help him in his work.

The hero of this story is a young lad who has the unusual ability of being able to see and talk to micro organisms.
This ability he finds of great help starting as a fresher at an agricultural college in Japan where his fellow students include an SM dominatrix, his best friend is a goth-loli transvestite and his professor is an expert on fermentation. Many natto making, sake brewing and other bacterium related adventures follow.
This is one of my favorite mangas. But seriously, what is there not to like about a manga with a story like this?

・1ページ目がのだめカンタービレ（というか要所要所のだめ多い）
・国旗を背景にした菌の分類方法での日米の対立が面白い（「謎のアメリカの逆ギレ」ｗ）
・シイタケ菌L・エドデスが「江戸です」が由来で、ユニオンジャック背景にしたおっさんたちがニヤニヤしてる（菌達「それ聞いた途端人間に愛想が尽きたッス」ｗ）
・菌目線の、表皮に矢文で戦いを挑んでるシーンがかわいい
・っていうか菌目線の小話がかわいい
・ゴスロリ少女が誰なのか、何故唐突に主人公にキスしたのか謎（ついでにいうと、「男性同士のキスなんて」と言ってる女子（キャラ名忘れた）が即同性にキスされてる（っていうかこの二人一夜を共にしてなかった？））だが、気になるっちゃ気になる（ゴスロリ少女が誰なのかイマイチわかりづらい話のもっていきかただったが）
・菌が見えなくなった沢木と、「最近さわき冷たくないか？」という菌達の物語がかわいい（再び見えるようになった時の安心感たるや）
そして
・表紙がミュシャっぽくて好き。
だが、いまだに物語がイマイチわからんし、キャラの描き分けもイマイチ把握できないし、女子キャラの微妙な性的描写がちょっとなー。まぁ、青年誌？男性誌？だから？なのかな？イブニングって？
