A mortal college scholar. A beautiful professor who is a vampiress. They say when forbidden love bites, the pain is exquisite.
The Shadow World is a lonely place.
My work as Elizabeth Nightshade, professor of American and European folklore at Alastar University keeps time at bay. Partially.
Funny how mortals race through their seconds, while I—with eternity ahead of me—sit quietly in my darkened office. So. Alone.
Wondering why I begged my maker for this . . . existence.
Today, however, there was an exciting development.
A new student, Ethan Anderson, actually attended my office hours. He was charming, handsome, amusing, and he flirted with me!
I haven’t felt so alive since . . . well, since I was alive!
I could fall for a mortal like this.
But a romance between a vampire and a human is . . . complicated at best. At worst—if my maker finds out about our forbidden attraction—neither Ethan nor I will live to tell the tale.
I would gladly pay the price for our happiness, but I must keep him safe, even if that means forever mourning what could have been (but perhaps was not meant to be)…
This had promise but completely fizzled out. Where was the heat? There was barely any kissing for the love of van Helsing. An hour of my life I could’ve spent reading something else.
I would love to give it more than 3 stars as this story could have been fantastic! However, I feel that there could have been more clarity on the main characters' background and progression through the book. But if you are looking for a cozy quick read, this would be the book for you as it does have a lot of sweet moments.
I was expecting more spice considering the front cover, I don't think there was any shirtless / bed scene for that to represent.
I can't give this more than 3 stars as I personally could not tell if the author contradicted themselves a bunch or if the characters were just really unreliable narrators and it kept throwing me out of the story. (I am assuming it's unreliable characters so 3 stars, otherwise would be 2) For a book that is sold as a romance there seemed to be less romance and more filler/backstory. Whilst also not actually having a lot of backstory making the whole mystery less mysterious and more confusing.
Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace for this type of story when reading it, but I spent more time questioning the characters/author than I did actually in the story. *semi-spoilers ahead* Why was an 18 year old boy pushing their 30+ professor to tell them their life story? Why does the boy think they have any right to it? Why was the professor letting and 18 year old 1st year student grade other students' work? Whilst also pushing for the student to turn up to office hours because he misses class - either he is ahead of everyone and getting amazing grades (thus can grade others' work) or he is behind (and needs to attend office hours to catch up) you can't really be both.
I think I received this as an ARC (this is a voluntary review) so maybe some was adjusted for the final version.
Crossing The Boundaries For Love - A forbidden romance novel between student and professor, that had a storyline that built up the tension between the characters, a mind blowing attraction and an unexpected twist in the story, that will keep you eagerly turning the pages, whilst you wait to see if they will get their happily ever after.
I received an advanced copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved it! An amazing story with vampires, forbidden love (professor to her student), dangers, passion, true friendship, family, sacrifice and true love. A story of the bravery of two people who stand up for their relationship and fight for it with everything they have. You will feel an array of emotions reading this amazing story, I was so drawn in that I finished it one sitting.
