Main character Tina has a growth spurt during the summer before third grade, and when she gets to school, she realizes she is the tallest person in her grade- boy or girl. This makes her very insecure and embarrassed, but her friends always try to make her feel better. She worries that she will stand out in the class photo and she even attempts to jump rope and trips over the rope because she is too tall. At the end of the book, her class games are about to take place. Tina worries about these also, as she has failed and embarrassed herself all year. It turns out that she is successful in events like long jump and a step competition. After this, she realizes that being tall isn't so bad after all and that it is even fun because she gets to do things like help people get things stuck in trees. The theme of perseverance was big in this book as Tina got down on herself sometimes, but never gave up. I rated this book 3 stars because I liked the story. It is good for kids that are embarrassed by their height or other exceptional features- it teaches them that we all have a gift. I also liked that the pictures were done in watercolor- they were fun to look at.
