Following the murder of the wife of a senior member of Tweed's staff, Tweed, Paula and Newman must find her vengeful husband. Meanwhile, the shadow of Gabriel March Walvis, international manipulator, looms over unfolding events and a mysterious female assassin eliminates those who know the truth.
2 or 3 stars. A bit cheesy for me. I read because A friend was keen for me to read it. Nevertheless, a fun novel centred around a spy agency group (like friends) to solve another mystery and save the world (California actually). Part of a mystery-action series. Apparently this author has a lot fans. So must be the same as the Get Smart groupies-an old tv show that never gets old-for Number 86 and 99 lovers.
Fun book. A true spy-novel. Tweed and his team moving from one location to the other while try to find out the true plan of Walvis. Enough action, twists and turns to keep people satisfied
Tweed and Co book 12 offers readers of the series exactly what they would expect. Another maniacal villain out to take control of the world. This time the plot involves brining thousands of armed migrants across borders into Western Europe where the conventional soldiers would be powerless to stop them. Along the way there is the obligatory mysterious assassin dogging the team and potential witnesses, 2 or 3 potential suspects always turning up ‘by coincidence’ at the same hotels that Tweed is staying in, mad cap chases and battles with the odd near death experience thrown in for good measure. If one was being critical there is a lot you could find on the downside of this series, the plots are far-fetched and somewhat formulaic, the writing is good but nothing special or above the norm and judging from some of the review many people do find these downside important. For me I read to be entertained (especially on commuting train journeys) and these books certainly do the job for me.
This is a story about Tweed and co. The usual people are there and another of his agents whose wife was murdered beginning the trek is involved. Tweed flits from place to place keeping everyone in suspense while he insists that he knows everything going on. There is a female assassin with three main suspects that seem to keep popping up everywhere they are. There is a criminal genius who is orchestrating the whole thing and his unsavory lieutenants whom he keeps blaming his failures on. The good guys seem to be everywhere in time to stop the actions of this criminal even if they don't always do things in a legal manner but take the law into their own hands many times killing and destroying things. It all works out in the end and the dreaded invasion of the west is thwarted.
Colin Forbes is a bit like Dick Francis once you've read one you've read them all but this one has a lot more heart to it. Forbes' wife died whilst he was writing it and it shows. The series are glossy spy novels. Forbes heroes are more likely to be drinking champagne and driving expensive cars after beating up the bad guys and they don't really kill anyone important off. Spooks this is not!
This book stands out in the 'Tweed & Co' series, as it is more emotionally charged, and even goes as far as to pull on the reader's heart strings every once in a while.
However, 12 books into the series it is becoming increasingly unbelievable that none of Tweed's inner circle has yet received a scratch, let alone a died! Surely number 13 must provide!
wieder mal ein guter spannender Thriller von Colin Forbes der trotz der teilweisen politischen Handlung gut lesbar ist und zeigt was alles durch Wahnsinn ausgelöst werden kann und wozu Menschen fähig sind
