WADE: SUBJECT NUMBER FOUR

Rate this book
Wade didn’t remember much about his early childhood. He did remember being sick constantly and he remembered his mother. She wasn’t really his mother at the time, just a kind and caring woman who lavished him with attention. He had been trapped in the facility with twenty other children, the nice lady and her husband. One morning he awakened and she was no longer there. Later he learned that she and her husband had escaped from the facility with one of the other kids.

Over time he learned the nature of his illness which was tied to the nature of the facility. He learned that all of his creche were the results of genetic experimentation. The first four, him and the three who died, had foreign DNA inserted into their genomes. The idea wasn’t necessarily bad but the execution was clumsy. The foreign DNA was inserted into inappropriate areas in the children’s DNA and caused numerous metabolic issues. That’s why he was sick and the other three had died. After that horrible outcome the later experiments focused on optimizing the DNA that was native to the child and those children did well.

Wade had only a lifetime of illness ahead of him until the lady (Amy) and her husband (Ben) were recaptured. That’s when he learned that Amy was a doctor that specialized in genetic disorders. She cured him. And they waited. Amy was sure that the boy that they had rescued, Aaron, would in turn rescue her and Ben and free all the children. Wade wasn’t so sure about that but it was a nice dream. In the meantime, he was healthier than he had ever been and he worked to get stronger. If he was ever freed he would find the perpetrators of this nightmare experiment and he swore that he would fight against them and their objectives.
