Ok officially giving up at pg 370, I can’t believe the insane turn around this book had. It started soo well!! I was excited, the writing was good, I really enjoyed the fmc, I loved the banter between the MCs.. but then 150 pgs in it turns into a wattpad novel. So disappointed.
Darkness ignites the flame, love controls the chaos.

What to expect 🗡️ Epic Adult Dark Fantasy Romance 🗡️ Dual POVs 🗡️ Forced Proximity 🗡️ Tension & Banter (🥵) 🗡️ Found Family 🗡️ Fiesty Rage Fueled FMC 🗡️ Possessive MMC 🗡️ Semi Enemies to Captive to Lovers 🗡️ Touch Her And ☠️ [but also, Touch HIM and... you might will absolutely lose your head 👀]
Thoughts “Do not fear me, Princess... I just came to collect what’s mine.” WOW. Just wow. I am in complete shock that this is a debut novel! I was transfixed from the prologue until the very last sentence. The book follows Viona, the princess of Sao, who is captured and taken to the kingdom of Callisto, an enemy of the kingdom of Sao. Secrets, prophecies, twists & turns are intertwined and Viona must learn to face the darkness or be consumed by it.
I cannot explain how captivated I was by the writing in this book. The characters were beautifully crafted, the banter & tension had me weak in the knees, and the ending had my jaw glued to the floor! I have so much more to say, but I don't want to spoil anything! This was such an incredible read.
“My heart will always call to yours, and yours to mine. I would rip the stars from the sky to find you.”
Thank you Monica for allowing me to receive an ARC copy of the book for an honest review.
Quotes 1. “I could give you more if you wish,” he says with a grin. “Insults or compliments?” I humor him. “Either or both . . . but, quite frankly”—he leans in a little closer—“whichever will make you smile again.”
2. “You are magnificent. Can you see it?” he whispers. “I would endure an eternity of suffering if it meant to be with you, to be inside your body and heart. You are the very blessing and sin of my soul. May the gods be damned with you in their presence.”
3. Sometimes, monsters can bloom amidst pain and grief, and though everyone seems to have a darker side they keep hidden, I won’t allow him to become everything I am.
4. "You have set my heart on fire. Your whole body is treasonous. Right now, I want to see you glow in the moonlight while I make you come.”
This is an epic fantasy romance novel about destiny, when darkness follows fate. It’s a journey through the shadows of harrowing truths, self discovery, and seeing how far one is willing to go to save those they love.
Writing a Flame Under the Moon was such an amazing experience and I hope you enjoy the intense ride this book will bring you on. <3
“Do not fear me, Princess,” he says in a deep, sultry voice. “I just came to collect what’s mine.”
A little too fast paced for me! Lots of potential and a solid plot but for a book this thick, one would think the romance and the plot would have taken more time to unravel, giving us the time to savor it, but no. Instant attraction between the main characters just seconds after she realized he kidnapped her, and even though he’s taken her in the middle of the night, she doesn’t even question his motives?! The interactions felt a little forced and I didn’t get attached to the characters.
2.5/5⭐️ (it’s been long enough since the debut that i feel comfortable sharing my review)
i’m so disappointed to say that i did not enjoy this book :(. I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC, and i’m so so thankful to this day. I really admire Monica and the effort she put into this book, this is nothing against her at all!! But I do wanna be honest about how I felt.
At first glance it sounded like this book had all the tropes i’d like and that made me so excited when starting a new romantasy, but i was so confused for like 80% of the book. It’s been over a month since i’ve read it so I don’t even remember some of my issues with it but from what I do remember, it was confusing at times, there were events that didn’t really make sense to me, and sometimes I just was bored with the FMC. The romance at first was what kept me entertained but even that just felt so so rushed to me. There were sometimes when I really enjoyed certain moments, but overall this book just was not for me and I found myself disliking it for the majority. I’ll definitely read Monica’s work in the future, but unfortunately this book was just not for me.
What can I say about this book other than I’m still not over it.
It has consumed me, mind body and soul.
Viona is the captain of her father’s guard, the king. Instead of being treated like a princess she is more like his ward. Since she shows no signs of having magic, he shuns her. Just because she possesses no magic, doesn’t mean she is weak though. Before her father can marry her off for an alliance she is kidnapped from her rooms and stolen away.
The problem is, her kidnapper is incredibly handsome and she feels drawn to him in ways she can’t explain.
Once outside of her father’s kingdom she learns things weren’t as they seemed. Her father isn’t who she thought he was, and his ruthlessness knows no bounds. Finding herself drawn more and more to Callian, her captor or liberator who also happens to be the crown prince, Viona learns a lot about herself. Including feeling safe enough to explore her own magic.
Will she be strong enough to face her father and make him pay for all the things her took from her?
“‘We were here, and this was us. Hidden between the earth and the sun. - Callian Valor.’”
A Flame Under the Moon by Monica Amore is an absolutely magical romantasy that was nearly impossible to put down. Every page of this book is filled with everything you want in a fantasy book including - enemies to lovers, found family, wicked kings, and fierce females.
This book is so well written, the writing just flows beautifully off the pages and literally wraps you up in the story. Viona is one fierce female and I just love that she didn’t instantly fall in love with Callian within the first few pages - all the sass and fight she dealt him really made the beginning of their relationship so much fun to read and gave the actual enemies to lovers vibes the book promised.
Now Callian he is just an epic male main character his banter and flirting with Viona just made the entire book - and also I can say without being too spoilerly it’s nice to have a fictional man that keeps his word when he says things like - “My heart will always call to yours, and yours to mine. I would rip the stars from the sky to find you.” This man just might be fictional perfection.
A Flame Under the Moon was such an epic read with all the twists and turns of magic and romance - I just absolutely loved it. The realm and characters the author created are so well written and the character relationships with each other just really brought the story to life. I especially loved the friendship between Viona and Crystal - in fantasy books we don’t always get a female best friend for the main character and I absolutely loved that this book really gave us a lot of that and built on their friendship throughout the story.
Anyways without rambling on forever this book is absolutely perfect for all romantasy lovers that want a book full of magic, fierce females, and an equally fierce romance. A Flame Under the Moon will keep you turning the pages until the end and leave you wishing you already had book two.
This books is about a princess ignored and unloved by her father the king. She's more a warrior than a princess and doesn't consider her one. One day, she's kidnaped by a mysterious man for unknown reason. She is brought to the enemy kingdom and has to learn how to her new destiny.
A flame under the moon is a good debut novel. The start of the book hooked me and I wanted to lean more about the characters and the plot. The banters between the two main characters was really good. The first spice was on point and really made me want to continue.
Unfortunately, the hype for the book die down during my read. I was getting more and more confused about the plot. I thought I would understand eventually but I still had mutiple questions at the end. This is more on a personal note but the romance isn't a slow burn and feels insta love. Also during the spice scene, the MMC was talking too much.😂
I will unfortunately not continue with the series, it's not because the book was bad... Only because i told myself I would not continue a series if I'm rating the first book under 3 stars.
genre: dark fantasy romance pages: 564 writing: single POV rating: ★★★★.★ [4.5/5] spice: explicit
Thank you to Monica for letting me Alpha read this gem and sending me an ARC.
Where do I start describing this book, I will probably be a *little* bit biased as I saw this work from its early stages to what is has become now, but the one thing it conserved throughout the editing process was its wonderful lyrical writing and vivid storyscape.
Viona is a force to be reckoned with and is quite the opposite of your usual FMC: brash, reckless, prone to anger, rude, solitary. Her background story is absolutely devastating and I love the character growth we see from her as she opens up to let people in.
Now put her in the same room as the MMC Callian, and you just know that sparks (and daggers) will go flying. Callian is a cocky guard with a quick sense of humour and a hobby for riling up Viona, and I was HERE FOR IT. Their interactions was one of the funniest (and hottest) I've ever read and I'm craving to be worshipped by a man like him.
The story gets very dark and deals with a lot of delicate topics but also has one of my fave examples of female friendship and found family.
Do not sleep on this book, it is an absolutely astounding debut and I cannot wait to read more from Monica in the future.
tropes: captor x captive / warring kingdoms / prophecy / magic system / enemies-to-lovers / stabby FMC / BDE MMC / found family / he falls first / forced proximity / one horse / princess turned warrior
I have so many words. This book is such a testament to the truth of strong FMCs—they’re most often carved from stone into jagged pieces by rusted tools. Characters like Viona are special because they show readers what it’s like to be raised on lies, abuse, and brainwashing. From the moment Vi is captured, we bear witness to how that upheaval and the subsequent truths affect her mentally and alter her irrevocably. Through this journey we watch a reluctant hero and tortured woman fall in love, master magic that scares her, find true friendship, fight against all odds, save the fucking worlddddd, and craft her own version of home. I just… I can’t say enough good things about this FMC. She is the beauty found in tragedy and the strength found in vulnerability. She is every woman who has ever felt rage and been told to bottle it. She is what it means to be kicked down and stand up swinging. Viona is a love story to women everywhere.
Now, Viona isn’t the only amazing part about this book. We have an interesting and unique magic system, prophecies galore, twists and turns, reveals that WILL shock you, and a stunning found family.
But the icing on this cake? The romance. WHEW. The banter? The tension? The spice????? Callian is EVERYTHING. He is sexy, funny, strong, and such a simp for our girl. She stabs him and he seems about ready to thank her. Like COME ON. They have great chemistry and the way their stories come to the conclusion at the end? Their bond? The BOOK OF THEM? I just can’t. They’re everything and I love them together omggg.
Crystal and Adnama are gorgeous side characters who steal your hearts in two completely different ways. I won’t lie, the Adnama twist blew my fucking MIND. I was like BITCH WHAT. Idk, it’s all so good.
I also love the ending so freaking much. The two sisters fighting together? Crystal being offered the crown? Knowing our two love birds will get to sail and adventure??? It’s all so good, AND WE ARE GETTING A SEQUEL EEEEKKKKKKKK!
11/10 THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING GOODBYE

✨Dark Fantasy Romance ✨Enemies To Lovers ✨Touch Her/Him and 💀 ✨He would do Anything for Her ✨Magic/Powers ✨Action Packed ✨Banter ✨Found Family ✨Spice ✨Twists/Turns & Secrets
For a debut book this literally everything you need it was so good and the writing was absolutely beautiful I devoured this book and loved every moment.
The world building was done so well and easy to follow and the descriptive writing only added to this. The plot was intriguing and kept me engaged and not once did I feel lost or didn’t have the feeling of not knowing what was going on it was straightforward. It is action packed from start to finish with so many twists and turns to the point I couldn’t stop reading, honestly one of my favourite things is to be so lost in a book you don’t realise just how much you have actually read and this book delivers that.
Viona is a completely fierce badass of a fmc the journey she goes on as she learns so much about her past and her powers as well as the friendships she makes and discovering all the secrets her father has kept from her was heartbreaking and empowering.
I loved the banter between Viona and Callian from the beginning, their chemistry was brilliant and the spice was chefs kiss. Callian is the perfect MMC he was completely obsessed with Viona from the beginning and i was loving how much he would literally do anything for her! Their love story is so addictive.
If your looking for a dark fantasy romance with enemies to lovers, powers, found family, packed with action and twists and turns that you don’t expect then I highly recommend adding this to your tbr when it releases!
Thank you so much to the author for giving the opportunity to read a arc in exchange for my honest review.
“My heart will always call to yours, and yours to mine. I would rip the stars from the sky to find you.”
This debut book by the lovely, @amordeluna0 is freaking awesome.
Let me paint you a picture. Viona is “whisked away,” probably against her will, by the gorgeous, Callian. From that blossoms magic, family feuds, magical creatures, found family, battling, and much much more. This book is action packed, full of twist and turns, and full of beautiful “Easter eggs.” I freaking enjoyed the heck out of it.
What’s inside? ✨ enemies to lovers ✨ captive to lover ✨ found family ✨ touch her and ☠️ ✨ dark romantasy ✨ fated mates
This book has some darkness. Please read the trigger warnings. 🫶🏼
A Flame Under The Moon is an exceptional read. The final 20ish% of the book had me in literal tears – I was incredibly frustrated, almost to the point of throwing my kindle, and hesitant to finish the book. However, I persevered, and I'm grateful I did as I witnessed justice prevailing and found closure to lingering questions. The storyline is captivating, and the characters are intriguing! Works like this one reinforce my love for reading fantasy/fantasy romance. This book resonated with me deeply, becoming a part of who I am. It's undeniably a five-star read! I eagerly anticipate the release of book two!
I have so many thoughts on this book I'm not overly sure where to start.
I think I'm just gonna start with what it did well....
Viona the FMC is a princess who doesn't wanna be seen as one. She has endured a lot of heartache for her 20 years. She is full of darkness and despair and knows there is something brewing with in her. Something dark and chaotic. Ultimately she is actually a bad ass warrior and by the end I admired her violent delights . She was fearless in some respects but eventually let her guard down. She grows a lot towards the end of the book.
Her character mid point of the book though absolutely infuriated me. Like I got so mad at her constant feeling sorry for herself and indecisiveness. I mean I got it to a degree but she kept fighting everything good that came her way.
The MMC Callian was hot. He was protective, loving, giving and never wavered from his feelings. He was fair but also extremely violent when needed. He was not afraid of his power and wasn't afraid to use it.
Vs dad , the king of Sao was a different level of horrendous.... can't say much more without spoilers.
The Kingdom that V ends up in after being kidnapped, was totally different to what she was used to. Crystal I loved. She was kind, patient and confident. I loved she nurtured V and gave her the guidance and friendship she craved.
The king of the land was also really kind, fair and a great ruler. He had so much compassion and unwavering support for his son and all of those in his kingdom.
The world building was actually on point and I had no issues with picturing surroundings, what people wore, although I struggled with the vagueness of what people looked like, this did improve as the book went on though a fraction.
The twists in the last 25% of the book I did not expect at all , it saved the book for me to be honest. There are lots of threads to this story. Sometimes, you wonder why something is happening or being talked about, but it all does tie together at the end in the best way. I did cry!
What marked it down so much for me was The use of the word SCOFFED is mentioned on nearly every page! That's over 560 times through the whole book! The word GROWLED , PURRED, SEETHED. Repetition is very much alive. Also the spice scenes , they would have been hott if the describing words didn't give me the ICK and I mean it was bad in parts. The last one was pretty much perfect though!
This is a good debut novel and I will be reading the second book.
Read if you love 👑Enemies to lovers 👑 forced proximity 👑Inta lust / insta thirst 👑found family 👑 touch her and you will absolutely die 👑 touch him and you will absolutely die 👑 extreme violence and gore. 👑 dual POV
For the first 50% of this book it was a solid 5 star read. Imagine my shock that it steadily declined in quality until I had to drag myself to finish this.
This book encapsulates the idea that the first part of a book is the most edited and refined part.
Viona is an isolated, hurt young woman who experiences love and joy in the 'enemy' kingdom. The romance between Viona and Callian was swoon worthy. Unfortunately, the healing journey of Viona gets quite repetitive with her refusing to accept love and friendship. I get healing isn't linear, but it gets tiring reading her enjoy life and then push people away and have to be reminded that she deserves love. This back and forth affected my affection for the romance, and also inevitably got tiring. In Act 3, it same cycle repeats. I get bored, and Viona continues to be reminded of how she has won the suffering Olympics. Not to mention the plot with dark lords, gods from above and below, and special god made weapons, was unclear and got even more confusing in the climax. One of my most disappointing reads, simply because I loved the beginning by the ending that simply descended into nonsense.
“You are the very blessing and sin of my soul. May the gods be damned with you in their presence.”
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this eARC! Endlessly grateful because this was an incredible read.
I 👏🏻 ate 👏🏻 this 👏🏻 up👏🏻. FIRST I would like to say that the happiness I felt when I read there would be a book 2 was unmatched because I truly thought this was a standalone novel and I did not want this story to end 😭🙌🏼
This truly is an incredible book. Even more so knowing it is Monica’s debut novel, I was truly so, so impressed with the writing, the character development, world building and very unique plot!! She was born to write and I’m so happy she made the decision to put this story on paper.
It’s safe to say that I didn’t see any of what happened in Part 3 coming - chapter 50 broke my heart but it was then repaired A BIT in the next chapter by Viona and Adnama being absolute bad bitches. Viona is a fierce little flame 🔥 and I enjoyed the banter between her and Callian so much. And I’m SO HAPPY she chose to let people in - Callian, Crystal (top tier BFF vibes), Ivan, Sydney, etc. Bless her grief stricken soul for being so brave. And fuck her dad.
ILL SAY IT AGAIN - this story was so wonderful, it’s become one of my favorites! Easy 5 star ✨ Please add to your TBR and pre order (or order after release if you do not have the means now 🥰) - it’s out in 2 days!! Also if you want a good happy cry, read the acknowledgments. They were so sweet. The dedication got me too - made me wish I could send it to the kiddos I used to work with 🫶🏻 Thank you Monica for blessing us with this beauty!!
„I could give you more if you wish,“ he says with a grin. „Insults or compliments?“ -„Either or both…but quite frankly“-he leans in a little closer-„whichever will make you smile again.“ My heart skips a beat.
rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 spice: 🌶️🌶️
I can not believe this is a debut fantasy romance book by Monica Amore! I fell in a little reading slump after reading HOFAS and this was my savior! 😮💨 This was soo addictive from the beginning and I was eating this up! I was so intrigued about our two main characters, Viona and Callian. It was fast paced, great worldbuilding, amazing character development and the banter was chef‘s kiss! I used every free second at work to continue reading and let me tell you I was LITERALLY blushing, giggling and kicking my feet 🤭. Take a look at those quotes - like how could you NOT?! I am so happy but so sad, as I have now finished A Flame under the Moon and can’t wait for the second book! 🥹
Tropes you will find: kind of Enemies-to-lovers, badass FMC, overprotective MMC, found family, Touch her and you‘ll 💀, one horse, knife to the throat scene.
Thank you Monica for creating this amazing world and so loveable characters 💜
I was so excited for this book when I first learnt of it during the cover reveal, and it definitely lived up to my hopes🥹
Viona Tarvas, a princess with a dark and haunting past, lives under the ruling of her cruel father, the king. Taken as a captive by a mysterious, brooding stranger, she begins to find herself in a new kingdom by growing her powers, gaining confidence, and creating new friendships. But Viona’s nightmares become visions, and a prophecy of her kingdom’s ruin is nearing.
I LOVED the character development throughout this book🩶 Also this story just screamed woman are powerful and I was here for Viona, Crystal, Adnama, and Alyce🙌🏻 The plot was also enticing and the world-building easy to follow. There was action, adventure, romance, betrayal, secrets and magic.
If you like: - Dark romantasy🖤 - Captive to lovers👀 - He falls first🤍 - Touch her/him & die💀 - Magic✨ - Found family🤍 This book is for you!
I really liked the storyline and the ideas behind the plot! The characters were likeable and interesting. Good world building and a decent magic system.
It was fast-paced and had some twists I did NOT see coming?!? I just wished there was a bit more info.
I needed a little extra on the character back story and their relationships, and the ending happened SO fast?! - I would have liked to have seen the relationship explored with Adnama and what she went through. Maybe I'll get that in book 2?
Dreams fade faster than a shooting star ascending through the skies.
I liked this book a lot especially Viona. Callian was an amazing mmc and I liked the banter and dynamic between them. It was interesting to see Viona control her powers and stuff...
I am not sure if there is gonna be another book as a part of a series as there wasn't any cliffhanger in the end.
If you hate cliffhangers, love banter, violent female characters, mcs who would die for the fc and satisfying endings then this book is for you!
A Flame Under the Moon will always hold a special place in my heart🖤
When Monica first told me about her book many months ago, I was so excited and so happy for her. I had the opportunity to alpha read and arc read for her, and I'm so happy I was able to!
AFUTM is unique in many aspects: the story, the magic system, the characters, the twists and turns, and, of course, the spice haha.
Viona is a total badass. She not only is part of her kingdom's royal guard but also has powers she has much to learn about.
Callian! This man is so fierce and, in the beginning, quite mysterious. His power not only makes him amazing but one not to cross.
I also absolutely loved Crystal and Gareon's characters! Crystal is such a great friend, and Gareon is super mysterious 👀
If you like: ✨Great banter ✨Morally grey FMC & MMC ✨Found family ✨One bed & one horse ✨Unique magic ✨Open door spice ✨Mysterious secrets Then you'll love AFUTM!!🤍🖤
Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. Like always, this review is voluntary & honest.
Okay, so I really enjoyed the vibes of the book, I liked the characters & the overall idea of the world the author created. I also do believe that this author did a good job with her debut. I do believe her growth as an author will continue to show in her future work & I am interested in possibly reading her future work.
Let’s start off with the things I did like. The FMC and MMC as a couple did have me rooting for them & their love story. Although it is worth pointing out that if you’re not a fan of the instalust/instalove vibes, do keep in mind that their story starts out that way. However, the MMC, Callian, is the definition of down bad & I was here for EVERY SINGLE MOMENT OF IT. ALSO, the spice was spicing, which also had me like “OH LAWD HAVE MERTHYY.”
The found family trope was incredibly done, I was hooked in seeing not only the romantic relationships develop, but also the platonic ones as well. With the background the FMC Viona had, you definitely become happy to see her find the place she belongs in.
I did feel like I was lost as the story progressed when it came to the actual plot of the story, I don’t feel like I fully understood it until the last 20%. The best way to explain what I felt is that, I saw multiple single events occurring as I got further into the book, but it didn’t feel like they connected to further the overall idea of what the whole story was about. It may just be my experience because reading truly is a personal, however, that disconnect kept me from fully immersing myself into this world & enjoying it more than I did.
With that being said, I definitely think you should give it a shot if you’ve read the blurb & are interested in it, or if you’re a lover of forced proximity, feminine rage, fated/soul mates, found family & he falls first (and harder in my opinion!). If these tropes are faves of yours, consider checking this one out.
I am absolutely blown away that this is a debut?? I continuously had to stop mid-chapter to remind myself that this is the authors first published book, the writing was THAT incredible. I have read a handful of debuts and unfortunately almost always ended up not finishing them. THIS 👏🏼 BOOK 👏🏼
By the last few chapters I was longing to see more of their stories, more of the side characters, and so badly wanting a novella for Adnama 😭
Although I loved the main characters, the side characters are what made the entire book for me! Their banter was unmatched, and I desperately need to see more of their story (especially Crystal). The plot twists were so beyond unexpected as well, I never expected a single one of them.
Overall this was such an incredible read and the world building was not overwhelming in the slightest. Incredible job!!
From the very first chapter, I loved the vibes of this book. There was just something about the pull of a dream, of destiny and fate, and the shadow of remembrance that created a haunting atmosphere. My favorite parts of the entire book was when Viona would have one of her visions or dreams. I was so curious to see what else would be revealed to her and excited to see her powers grow.
And the love story, my goodness! From the very first appearance of Callian, I was swept away. He's a confident bugger, his every action oozing self assuredness and swagger. He fell first, fast, and harder. He had such a way with words and my heart clenched a bit every time he called Viona "little flame." I was a little wary by how quickly everything was progressing. There was so much story left, I knew there was troubled times ahead and I wasn't wrong. My heart was ripped out so many times in this book, and it was mostly put back together by the end, but it was a thrilling ride. I loved the growth that Viona had, slowly opening herself up to friendship and love, and accepting that Callian would stand by her side through anything.
The last 25% of this book was such a whirlwind, it absolutely flew by. I was stuck to the pages. But I will say that Crystal absolutely needs her own book! I feel like there is so much going on with her (especially her love life *wink wink*) and I just get the impression that there's a lot more to her than what was shown. There was kind of a hint dropped about Gareon's past and it got me to wondering.
This was such an enjoyable read, full of love and vengeance, power and mystery. Read it just to experience the sweet talking of Callian!
Thank you to the author for the ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This fell pretty flat for me. The idea of the story is great and sounded right up my alley, but the execution was lacking. I was not able to connect to any of the characters, and most of the interactions felt forced or didn’t really make sense. I couldn’t understand why most of the characters did what they did.
I think there’s certainly a lot of potential - but this story could really benefit from a few more rounds of edits.
ARC review - thank you to the author for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
"Do not fear me, princess. I just want to collect what's mine." Giggling and kicking my feet🤭
Wow. Just wow. I judge books by their covers, I know that's bad, sue me, lol. But, this cover had me, I thought it was so pretty and it has all my favorite tropes! I loved the story, the writing, the romance, all of it. It's insane how this is just a debut!? I can't wait to read more of Monica's work in the future🖤
Tropes✨️ 🗡Enimies to lovers 🗡Captive/captor 🗡Hidden power 🗡Banter (which was bantering) 🗡Feminine rage 🗡Kingdoms & magic 🗡Found family 🗡Heartbreaking (love some good angst) 🗡Morally grey FMC/MMC 🗡Fated/soul mates
*note: I do think that if you liked FBAA by JLA, you might enjoy this book. The story is pretty similar. As always, this will just be my honest review and I intend no hate to the author or anyone who enjoys this book.
I am so sad that I didn’t enjoy this book. I’ve been on a streak of reading books I don’t enjoy, but when I started reading this book I thought I finally broke it. The writing was so beautiful and I was enjoying the direction we were going. Unfortunately, it quickly turned around.
A big issue I had with this book is the lack of direction. Once we hit about 25% we really start to lose the plot. The romance was so rushed and we weren’t really making any progress on the prophecy, so the middle half of the book just really felt unnecessary to me. We also didn’t get enough world building in the beginning to tie into what would be happening later on. There was really no explanation on their gods, which ends up being a HUGE part of the plot later on. We also had a fated mates trope thrown at us without knowing mates were a thing in this world. It feels like the author had a great idea for this world, but didn’t quite bring it to life for the reader.
I think the character development was lacking as well. I thought viona was so bad ass at the beginning and she was give me Jude Duarte vibes, but she just ended up being really immature and unlikeable. Like girl how are you going to be kidnapped and just go along with it 😭 and I really just disliked the MMC, callian. He was incredibly immature and was giving red flags with his anger issues. He literally destroyed some doors bc he couldn’t find viona in her room?? Idk it’s giving icky vibes.
The romance had so much potential, but is another area that fell flat for me. I was really expecting an angsty, slow-burn, enemies to lovers vibe but that was not it. They fell very, very fast, which felt off since he literally kidnapped her 😭
Last thing, the ending made me so mad. I won’t spoil it for y’all but the way a certain character dies is 👎🏻
