Protection #8

Mine to Shelter

Rate this book
Just when I thought life couldn’t get worse, a past nightmare returns. But this time he’s after more than my body. He wants it all—me and my daughter.

Broken, abused, and all alone.I first met Detective Hudson Mott on the worst night of my adult life, and now four years later, he appears on my doorstep telling me I’m in danger. Again. The forbidden crush I harbored for him burns brighter when he refuses to leave us unprotected, determined to stick close. A massive, sexy former Navy SEAL who makes me feel safe and seen wants to insert himself into my crazy life plus is super adorable with my four-year-old.

Yes, please. Maybe then I could actually sleep. We both wear internal scars from our pasts, though that doesn’t diminish the instant attraction and combustible desire that pulse between us. It might be forbidden, but I can’t stop wanting more and picturing us as a family. The killer wants Samantha and me for his own, and Hudson refuses to let that happen. I’ve survived a lot in my life… But this might be the final act that breaks me beyond repair. Mine to Shelter is a standalone, dual point of view, dark romantic suspense. Each book in the Protection Series can be read as a standalone, but because of character crossover, they are best read in order. Please note this book is for mature readers due to detailed sexual content, foul language, discussion of childhood abuse, past SA discussions, and a killer who will stop at nothing to take who he believes is his.

mini blurb — ✍🏻
Detective Hudson Mott never got to arrest a criminal that ruined the lives of fifteen women along with his former partner. Now, four years later, the same women on that list started to turn up dead and he's ready to bet there's a connection. Four years ago, Calista lived her worst nightmare, being in danger just add another dent in a long list of bad luck, but now she has a reason to live and after seeing the Detective that already saved her once before, is making her hope for a better future.

//
“I don’t want you despite your issues, Hudson.” All the breath exploded from my lungs like she’d punched me in the gut. “I want you because of them. You’re not perfect, and neither am I. And you know what? That’s okay.”

This is the first book I'm reading and even though is a part of a series and there are some character, I suppose, from other prev books also, one can totally read it as a standalone (one quality that I very much appreciated) and still wouldn't miss anything.

That said, I instantly felt captivated into the plot, I devoured the book in 2 days.

Calista went through some heavy shit in her life, difficult themes and triggers were dealt with care, I loved how, even slowly, but she overcame her fears, she learned to ask for help and trust again 🥹✨
Hudson, 💚💚 the patience of this man, my god, he went full on protective mode from the very first moment he saw both Cal & Sam, it was funny to see him, 6ftsomething hunk of a man ex SEAL grumpy to the core interact with a ray of sunshine cute af 4yo that was in love with him as soon as he saw him, I'm ugly crying rn. 🥹🥹

The mystery&suspence was interesting, but I wished I'd figured who was that person a little later in the book, maybe I've connected the dots too early but my sus was right 👀

One thing I wanted to change was that was never mentioned if Calista wanted to catch up on her education, she was forced to drop out and when she tell her story to Hudson I felt her missed opportunity.. it would have been good if idk, she kept the idea going and had this ambition for her. Just my personal opinion.

Have been waiting for this book since I finished Mine To Share.

I'll admit I was a bit disappointed while reading this one. I just didn't feel the connection between the main characters, it felt a bit forced at times and it dragged on a bit for me as well.

Calista, she didn't have it easy as a child or when she was older being brainwashed and having to believe that she was the problem and whatever happened was her fault, that in it self was traumatising for her.

Hudson, carries the burden of not being able to give justice to the woman that have been hurt. But he did everything possible to find who the suspect was.

Calista and Beth and so many others lived through a nightmare and that trauma never went away, and justice was served... rightfully.

The last few chapters were what I loved, all the facts coming together and Mott doing everything possible to protect Calista and her daughter.

They were tidbits that gave the identity to the suspect away, so I figured that out pretty quickly.

...overall, it was a good book.

I absolutely love this series!!!
Like all the other protective men in this series, I loved Hudson, we first met him in mine to share, I was so excited to get his story.
Hudson and Calista's story had me gripped from beginning to end, it has all the suspense and anticipation that kennedy always brings and the unknown chapters were brilliant, I loved getting thier perspective and trying to figure out who it is.
I would say this is my favourite so far in this series, but I've said that with every book, and I'm sure when I get my hands on the next one, I'll say the same.

Kennedy L Mitchell sure knows how to write a romantic suspense with perfectly flawed characters. From the start I was in love with our hero Hudson, who though his past made him unworthy. Then we have Calista who has the worst luck in being surrounded by the worst men. her daughter Sam was absolutely precious and every moment between Sam and Hudson made my heart explode from happiness. The romance is a slow burn since both our MCs have triggers and trauma but when they get their it's hot as hell that was a little bit kinky! Mine to Shelter was a great edition to the Protection eries but can be 100% read and enjoyed as a stand alone.

Favorite Quotes :

I wasn’t a kid guy. Children were never in my plans, yet the thought of walking away from the tiny human who now had this badass Navy SEAL wrapped around her little finger made me want to rage with grief.

“Who hurt you, Calista?” She looked up through her lashes and offered a sad smile. “Who hasn’t?” My heart cracked. “I’ll hunt down every single one of them.”

“I don’t want you despite your issues, Hudson.” All the breath exploded from my lungs like she’d punched me in the gut. “I want you because of them. You’re not perfect, and neither am I. And you know what? That’s okay.” “Fuck being perfect.”

There was no coming back from Calista Hart. And I was one hundred percent okay with that.

“Nothing can happen to you, Cal. I’ve survived a lot of things, but losing you would ruin me.”

“I want all your smiles, all your laugher, all of it.” I trembled, his words hitting the part of me that felt unwanted and abandoned. “I want your everything,” Hudson whispered into my ear. “You have it,” I replied, voice cracking with the swell of emotions his words caused.

Calista Hart had first met Detective Hudson Mott at one of the worst times of her life after she was brutally attacked and he was assigned to her case. Now with Hudson appearing on her doorstep, it appears the past has caught up with her and the man who had nearly killed her wants to finish the job but it’s not only Calista he’s after this time, but she also now has a four-year-old daughter and all that stands between them and danger is Hudson.

This was a gripping addition to the Protection series. The sense of ever encroaching danger built the tension and suspense throughout the story and was perfectly balanced with the slow burn romance between Calista and Hudson. Both were damaged characters. Calista from her abusive childhood and the events that had first brought her to Hudson’s attention and Hudson, well he had major guilt over what had happened to his partner, see the previous book for that story. I also loved the monologues from Calista’s assailant that were interspersed throughout the book and added another perspective without giving away the identity. This was romantic suspense at its best.

Okay, I get that this was a serious book but Hudsons internal monologue was hilarious. Him talking about the wooden steps to showing his badge to a child. The way he was with Sam at first was great. And he was such a a BA but so sweet at the same time. I mean come on he swooped in and took in a dog. Sam and Gloria were a great add. The suspense and "unknown" POV chapters were *chefs kiss*. The plot was perfect. I really enjoyed this book and I definitely want to check out what else she has to offer.

This is my first book by Kennedy L. Mitchell and most definitely will not be my last. After reading the blurb to this book, I knew I needed to read it and I am so glad I took a chance on this book and author because I freaking loved it so much! From page one to the very end, I was hooked!
This is an interconnected series but can be read as a stand-alone which is how I read it, but I enjoy this book so much I will be going back and reading the books before it!
I loved Hudson and Calista so much. Their chemistry, love and connection was something special and was so amazing to read. It was so easy to fall in love with these characters. This book is full of suspense and tackles some hard topics. Both Hudson and Calista have gone through their own kind of trauma and are fighting their own battle but the way they come together is beautiful and heartfelt and so incredible to read.

All in all, this book was amazing. It consumed me from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down til the very end. I highly recommend picking it up! You won’t be disappointed!

5 STARS!

Mine to shelter has left me wanting more!
Kennedy L Mitchell created these two beautiful broken people, who fell for eachother in a thrilling romance:

He didn’t complete me or fix me, just gave me the tools and time for me to do it myself. And that was what made Hudson Mott the ultimate superhero in my eyes.

Calista and Hudson know eachother from a case where he was the detective and she was the victim. Now the unsub is back and has his eye on Calista, again. Hudson risks everything to keep her save and he empowers Calista to overcome the abuse in her past.
I loved everything about this book, the characters, the bonding between them, the romance, the spice (like oh. My. guys HOT)
What’s new in this book is the unsubs point of view and I LOVE it.
Also please let the end be the beginning of a new series? Pretty please?

We're getting into Hudson's story after a rough incident with his partner in "Mine to Share." Now back in LA, he's chasing down an open case that haunts him every night, the same one that destroyed his partner.

Calista is hustling to put her life back together. Years of conditioning have left her battling panic attacks and constant self-doubt. Despite the struggle, having her little girl gives her the strength to keep pushing forward.

The past catches up, bringing Calista and Hudson together again. This time, neither of them is giving in. The suspense, the sparks flying between Cal and Hudson, and the adorable connection between Sam and Hudson amp up the excitement. Oh, and we can't overlook Cooper! I'm so ready for his story!

When Calista's old crush, Detective Hudson Mott, shows up on her doorstep telling her there's a problem, she's devastated to realize the person who terrorized her is back. But Hudson is determined to protect her and her daughter, and soon close proximity and all will have their way with them. While Hudson's protecting them, can they both keep their feelings at bay, or will they be unable to resist?

Protective men with hidden vulnerabilities are my catnip. Hudson is a former SEAL so of course he's alpha protective and all that, but he's got a lot of demons inside that Calista sees through to. She doesn't judge, though, because she's got her own baggage too - it makes them perfect for each other in all the best ways. Their chemistry is sizzling, the action and suspense blends naturally with their inevitable relationship - the best kind of romantic suspense.

MINE TO SHELTER is the eighth instalment in Kennedy L. Mitchell’s contemporary, adult PROTECTION erotic, romantic suspense series. This is former US Navy SEAL turned LA Detective Hudson Mott, and single mother/waitress Calista Hart’s story line. MINE TO SHELTER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Hudson was first introduced in book seven Mine to Share.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from three first person perspectives (Hudson, Calista, Unknown) MINE TO SHELTER follows four years after a serial rapist was never apprehended in the LA area, and all clues point to the return of said rapist, a man who has upped his game, now focusing his murdering intent of the women he left behind. Disappointed and hating himself for not solving the case, Detective Hudson Mott begins a search for the women previously attacked, only to discover he was once again too late to save them all but his attraction to Calista Hart is growing with every encounter, and our hero will find himself falling in love with the woman, and her daughter, who has stolen his heart. What ensues is the building relationship between Calista and Hudson, and the potential fall-out as the past takes aim, refusing to stop until he gets who and what he wants.

The world building focuses on the search for a rapist turned killer, who is targeting his previous victims. Detective Hudson Mott blames himself for not taking down the person responsible but falling for Calista was never in the cards. As Calista’s guardian and protector Hudson’s career will be placed on the line, a career form which he was already willing to walk away. Calista Hart’s life has changed completely in the four years since she was attacked. A former model who is desperate to protect the only family she has ever loved, now finds herself the target of a man who is struggling the with madness of power and control.

The relationship between Calista and Hudson is a professional arrangement but our couple’s attraction to one another is palpable and strong. Hudson’s career is on the line as he continues to dig into the mind of a killer, a mind that is more familiar than they could have ever imagined. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my romance story lines.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar, questionable and dynamic secondary and supporting character including the return of FBI Profiler Charlie Beckham (Mine to Keep 3), and FBI Agent Jameson Bend & ME Dr. Rain Evans (Mine To Share 7), as well as Calista’s friend Gloria, and Special Agent Cooper.

MINE TO SHELTER is a story of power and control, madness, betrayal and obsession, friendships and relationships, acceptance and love. The slow building premise is tragic and intriguing; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are energetic, spirited and desperate.

Kennedy L. Mitchell quickly became a one click author for me in the past few years, but I think that she truly outdid herself in Mine to Shelter. The descriptions in this book were incredible. I truly felt that I was in the thick sticky air of LA, and the rising tension as the unsub became more and more agitated and Calista and Hudson became closer to one another. The tension in this book was palpable and I was on the edge of my seat ... .while I was anxious for this unsub to be caught I also wanted more and more of Hudson and Calista.I truly didn’t want to let Hudson, Calista and Sam go!
Our introduction to Hudson in Mine to Share was amazing and heart wrenching, and I knew that he was going to fall so hard for a worthy heroine. And man did he ever. I really appreciated how Hudson was a detective in a large police force doing the right thing despite his superiors wishes. While others may have viewed Hudson as just your average detective, readers quickly found out hat Hudson is far from average. He struggled with his ability to do his job to the level that he thought he needed, where others didn’t see it that way. With that Hudson had worries just like typical people. While he would have loved to shower Calista with gifts and fancy things that just wasn’t something he was able to do. Instead he showed Calista and Sam what they meant to him, and it was perfect.
Calista has had a rough life….and that is putting it lightly. But this girl is tenacious, hard working and smart. She knows the kind of life she wants so she is going after it. She isn’t into fancy things, she wants to put food on her table, love her daughter and have someone love her. When Hudson comes back into her life she could have hid, closed herself off but she did not. She continued to fight for what she wanted.
While Hudson and Calista have some broken pieces they fit perfectly together and they offer each other what they need. Someone safe to love them for who they are, and a family.
This book was such a perfect example of romantic suspense, and I am so looking forward to more from Kennedy L. Mitchell. She always does such a great job of teasing us just enough for us to be begging for the next book in the series…and I felt like she was giving us some really great easter eggs which has me so excited for what is to come!!!

"Mine to Shelter" by Kennedy L. Mitchell is a gripping and emotional tale that combines elements of suspense, romance, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. The tension escalates as Hudson becomes determined to protect them, refusing to leave them vulnerable to the looming threat. When this book was first announced I was very excited! This series is one of my favorites, as it has the right mix of romance and suspense. Mine to Shelter was no different!

We met Hudson in "Mine to Share" and I knew I was going to love this guy. He's a Detective assigned to the Sex Crimes unit, but when he notices a string of murders tie into cold cases that he worked in the past, he knows he has to step up to make sure the Unsub ends up behind bars, or in the ground. He's not too picky. Calista is a single mom who met Hudson years ago when he worked her case, and he's back in her life to warn her about the current murders. Of course sparks fly between the two and Hudson will do anything to keep Calista and her daughter Sam safe.

Once again Kennedy L. Mitchell did a great job with the story telling. The chapters from the Unsubs POV were great and really added to the story. I wish more suspense/thriller romances would do the same. I just really enjoy trying to get into their head and it adds to the "fun" of trying to figure out who it might be. Seeing Hudson interact with Sam was hilarious and heart warming all at once. He went from having no clue about kids to being a Girl Dad in about 10 seconds. The friendship he has with Beth is really amazing as well. Calista is someone who will do whatever she has to in order to support her child but has her own demons to fight. To watch her overcome them is really inspiring and these two deserve a HEA so much.

A new FBI agent was introduced and man, I can't wait to learn more about him! And of course I loved revisiting some characters from the past. It's one of my favorite parts of this series.

Like most of the books in this series, there are trigger warnings. They include sexual assault, off page childhood abuse, torture/murder, stalking and a few more that I'm probably forgetting. Be sure to check the list before you read!

If you're a fan of previous books in the series, then you'll love this one!

“Sometimes we’re forced to do bad things to save those who can’t save themselves.”

Dark, gritty, and suspenseful, Mine To Shelter takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Hudson and Calista had both been drawn to each other when they met years ago and when Hudson discovers that Calista is once again in danger, he will do anything to protect her and her daughter. My heart broke for what both of them had been through, but they were perfection together.

“He didn’t complete me or fix me, just gave me the tools and time for me to do it myself. And that was what made Hudson Mott the ultimate superhero in my eyes.”

Both Hudson and Calista were broken and damaged from their painful pasts. Calista had been abused by practically everyone throughout her entire life, but she was a survivor for both herself and her daughter. I loved watching her evolution throughout the story from disassociating from the pain to growing stronger in mind so she could fight for herself and the future.

“Nothing can happen to you, Cal. I’ve survived a lot of things, but losing you would ruin me.”

Hudson was equally as broken as Calista. His past had put in him situations where he had to make decisions that were morally gray, but in spite of this, he was a good man. He continually built Calista up and gave her the respect to make her own decisions and boundaries.

“There isn’t a part of me that doesn’t crave you.”

Full of spine-tingling suspense, mouth-watering heat, and a connection that is undeniable, Mine To Shelter was fast-paced romantic suspense at its best. Hudson and Calista complemented one another beautifully and while their story was not for the faint of heart, I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved Cooper and I cannot wait to read his book.

Kennedy L. Mitchell's "Mine to Shelter" is a riveting addition to the Protection series, delivering a perfect blend of romance and suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Calista Hart and Detective Hudson Mott's lives intersect once again, plunging them into a harrowing journey as a past nightmare resurfaces.

Mitchell's storytelling prowess shines through the intricate web of danger and desire, weaving a narrative that expertly navigates the delicate balance between building tension and slow-burn romance. The dual perspective allows a glimpse into the minds of Calista, Hudson, and an enigmatic antagonist, creating an intense and gripping narrative.

The characters are beautifully flawed, carrying deep emotional wounds from their pasts. Calista's evolution from a survivor to a resilient fighter and Hudson's complex persona, driven by guilt and an unwavering sense of protection, make for compelling and relatable protagonists.

The backdrop of danger and suspense is vividly portrayed, with Hudson's determination to shield Calista and her daughter from a relentless predator forming the heart of the story. The ensemble cast adds depth, reintroducing familiar faces from previous books while enhancing the overall narrative.

Mitchell captures the essence of a heart-wrenching yet heartwarming connection between Calista and Hudson, portraying their journey with raw emotion and palpable chemistry. "Mine to Shelter" is a rollercoaster of emotions, offering spine-tingling suspense alongside moments of intense intimacy.

In conclusion, Kennedy L. Mitchell delivers a masterful romantic suspense that leaves a lasting impact. "Mine to Shelter" is a must-read for fans of the genre, showcasing the author's ability to craft a gripping tale of resilience, love, and unwavering protection amidst daunting threats

3/5🌶

Mine to Shelter was the first book by Kennedy L. Mitchell and I am on a mission to check out more of her stories.

We're following Detective Hudson Mott & Calista Heart and their romance. They are bound by a horrific trauma Calista suffered and Hudson was the officer along with his partner on her case. Having a crush onnher own personal hero wasn't what she needed to act on then, she needed to focuson her healing and catching the man that traumatized her and so many others.
Back then he felt an at the time inappropriate attraction to her that he never acted on and years later that sharp intense attraction is still there but once again it's not the time to act.
Years later, case still not closed Hudson discovers her attacker is back and she along with the rest of his victims is in danger. He's on a mission to let them know the treat that's approaching.

Calista is struggling with the ongoing effects from her attack from years ago but she has someone even more important to take care of someone who needs her to be strong and she's determined to get her life back to a normal level.

While looking out for Calista and her daughters well-being, Hudson is struggling with holding back his feelings, so is Calista.
While the danger gets even closer their feelings for each other come out and they can't help but give into their attraction.

It's therapeutic to both of them and it's undeniable how much they are ment to be. They're made for each other and there's nothing that will stop Hudson from keeping her and never letting her go.

This story is a gripping, suspenseful and emotional read. It will pull your heart strings with all the feels.

🌶️🌶️.5/5

I want to start with I have not read any of the other books in this series but that will change now. I absolutely loved this book! It pulled me in from the beginning with starting the book from the unsub/stalkers point of view and that was something that I was surprised with and loved.

Hudson is the male MMC in this book. He is the tortured hero who is an SVU Detective. He carries the burden of past cases and not being able to solve or find the person responsible for hurting women, that burden only grows when those women are now being found left in the woods.

Calista has a tough background but that makes her the strong woman she is. Calista has a daughter Sam who is her whole world and she will do anything to keep her safe. Calista works as a cocktail waitress/bartender so she can give her daughter the life she deserves.

Hudson and Calista reconnect when Hudson finds out the unsub is targeting his prior victims. Hudson has a pull to Calista that he can not deny. While Calista is in danger it pushes her closer to Hudson and Hudson is able to help Calista overcome a lot of her history and help heal her. Hudson's relationship with Calistas daughter Sam is hilarious at the beginning because he is this large man who does not know what to do with a child. But as Calista and Sam become more important to Hudson he will do anything and everything to protect them. Their relationship has so much growth and trust and it was beautiful to read how they each helped each other heal their pasts together.

I can not wait for the next book!

Protective. Possessive. Dirty talking. This is exactly the kind of hero Kennedy delivers in the form of detective Hudson Mott. For four years, Hudson Mott had been hunting an elusive man who had been hurting women. Now, the man is back and he is taking bigger risks with his past victims. Calista Hart was one of the victims four years ago. After she escaped from this man, she called Hudson to get updates on the progress of catching this man. The calls became a lifeline for Calista and she developed a crush on Hudson Mott. When Hudson comes back into her life four years later, Calista can still feel the connection she felt to him and she is not the only one. As Hudson keeps pursuing the perp, he feels drawn to keep Calista and her young daughter safe. They eventually move in with Hudson so that he can keep them safe. Can this lead to a family?
Hudson Mott is HOT! A ripped body, a need for justice, a dirty mouth, and protecting a woman at all costs? Sign me up! Both Hudson and Calista have experienced past traumas. It was beautiful how they felt enough trust to talk about their traumas and triggers. Hudson’s protection and this couple’s chemistry is integrated throughout the book. Hudson’s protection streak makes him irresistible! Speaking of, the spice between him and Calista is super spicy! Though it took a little while for the spice to get started, once it did, it was HOT! My second favorite genre of books is mystery/thriller. This book had spice and thrills! I couldn’t put this book down. This is my second book by KLM and the first one was another book in this series. I can’t wait to go back and read the rest of the series. With thrills, spice, and protective men, you know I will be there to read it!

Mine to Shelter is a gripping and intense romantic suspense novel that delves into the lives of its characters with raw emotion and palpable chemistry. The book, part of the Protection series, offers a rollercoaster of emotions, combining spine-tingling suspense with moments of intense intimacy. The story follows the journey of former US Navy SEAL turned LA Detective Hudson Mott and single mother/waitress Calista Hart, as they navigate a harrowing situation involving the return of a serial rapist. The slow-building premise, tragic and intriguing, coupled with the seductive and provocative romance, makes for a compelling read.

The author's ability to craft a tale of resilience, love, and unwavering protection amidst daunting threats is truly commendable. The characters, particularly Hudson and Calista, are well-developed and their forbidden yet undeniable connection adds a layer of complexity to the narrative. The book is a standalone with a dual point of view, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the thoughts and feelings of the main characters.

It is a fast-paced romantic suspense novel that keeps the reader engaged from the first page to the last. The mystery and suspense elements are expertly woven into the story, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. However, it's important to note that the book is intended for mature readers due to its detailed sexual content, foul language, and discussions of sensitive topics such as childhood abuse and assault.

In conclusion, Mine to Shelter is a must-read for fans of the romantic suspense genre. Kennedy L. Mitchell has once again delivered a masterful and intense story that leaves a lasting impact. I highly recommend this book and give it a solid 4-star rating.

My first by Kennedy and wow. I was not expecting the thrilling suspense and I felt like I was in an FBI show investigating. I absolutely devoured it.
I will say the prologue was very difficult to read knowing what was being insinuated and what happened to all them women. So as always read triggers and see if it will be OK for you to read.
Hudson *fan myself* this man protects with his all and he definitely let's others know when they have crossed their line with his Cal. He is a detective and an ex SEAL.
Calista is such a strong person. She is a wonderful mother to her daughter Sam. Sam is absolutely adorable and doesn't speak. When she does it is both beautiful and so funny 🙈🤣.
Hudson and Cal both are heavily scarred. Him from his SEAL time and then feeling like a failure for not catching the serial r4p1st.
Cal is a broken soul that has grown up being SA and being used for her body. Then being one of the victims from the case Hudson was working on.
This was how they both met. 4 years later Hudson has come back in Cal's life because she is in danger as victims from that serial attack are turning up d3ad.
I loved how we also got the k1llers pov too. It helped me figuring out more clues about him.
This was written very well, kept me engaged at all times. The chemistry between them, how their relationship bloomed, how certain things needed to be taken in consideration regarding their individual traumas.
The suspense was so good too. I loved all the little evidence given and how I was also on edge at certain times.
If you love crime, intense suspense, drama, serial k1llers, broken characters that grow together, emotional, love and hot spice.
Does Cooper have a book? If not I want more of him please. Very excited to read more from this author now.

Kennedy Mitchell knows how to write an angsty, suspense filled romance book. This book has danger, action, suspense, mystery and, of course, steamy spice! Calista's story is actually quite tragic. My heart absolutely broke for everything this beautiful young woman had experienced in her life. She desperately needed someone like Hudson to come along and show her her worth and value as a human being. She's been so used to being used and subjected to evil men's desires that she doesn't know how to handle having a man that just wants to love her. Hudson is an absolute dream boat. He's burly, strong, total alpha with a cinnamon roll center. This man falls hard and fast, and there's no going back for him. Calista and her daughter, Samantha, are his and no one is going to take them from him. Of course, the danger and suspense in this book comes in the form of a past abuser of Calista who is now stalking her. He believes that Samantha is his daughter, and he's determined to make them a family. What he's not counting on, is the sexy detective who will do anything and break any law to keep his girls safe. This book was a page turner. I loved how Kennedy kept the identity of the bad guy secret, and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to figure out who he was. The romance was amazing, and the growth that these two MCs experience on their journey together was beautiful. Please check the TWs! This book really delves into the depravity of people, and is not for the faint of heart. But if you're into a romance with sexy alpha male, with a rough exterior falling head over heels for the battered single mom and her adorable daughter, then be sure to check this one out!

This was such an intense, suspenseful and crazy emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish. I was hooked on Calista and Hudson right from the very beginning and didn’t want to let them go in the end. Their whirlwind love story continually had my heart bursting with so much love for both of them and I just hoped they got their happy ever after in the end.

Calista has endured so much trauma in her life (heartbreaking and gut-wrenching trauma) that it made her think some terrible things about herself and that she might possibly be unwanted. But when Hudson storms back into her life, he slowly breaks down those walls she put up over her heart and helps her to realize that she is worthy, lovable, smart, courageous and everything he could ever want.

Their story is not a simple one as danger lurks around every corner for Calista. Something or someone is still out to get her. This keeps Calista and Hudson on edge waiting for something terrible to happen.

The gripping eeriness of the possible and unknown danger on the verge of happening with every turn of the page, made it difficult to put this story down. I needed to know what was going to happen and I needed to know all of the who’s, what’s and why’s. It kept me on the edge of my seat biting my nails with anticipation of what I would find when I turned the page.

It was well written with such amazing characters and with a storyline that had some very funny, adorable and sweet (plus spicy) moments in between all of the suspenseful and adrenaline packed moments.

LOVED IT!

Hudson and Calista

This was a chilling romantic suspense. The chapters in the unsub’s pov were dark but added tension to the story. I like that, although it was dark and chilling, there were moments of light and humor as well. It was well written and the plot was very well thought out. It had the perfect blend of thriller and suspense and light romance.

Calista had led a hard life. She had been abused by every male she’d ever encountered except one. And when Hudson comes charging back into her life, she learns her hopes that he’d be different were well founded.

Hudson has his own demons and insecurities, but he puts them aside for Calista and her daughter Sam. He is determined to keep them safe, willing to give up his job, his career, and his life to protect them. He fell just as hard for Sam as he did for Calista. His interactions with Sam were some of the lighter moments in this book, from his thoughts about showing a four year old his badge to his reaction to her finally speaking, and then immediately repeating everything he said.

I loved that both Calista and Hudson had demons and vulnerabilities. They understood each other in a way that made their bond even stronger. I loved that the protective gestures went both ways. Calista was a strong heroine who was ready to put her past behind her and believe she and Sam could have a good life with Hudson.

The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, waiting for the unsub to strike. I liked that this can be read as a standalone, but some past heroes make cameos.

‘If you love a little darkness, murder, and possessive alpha heroes with the need for control mixed into your suspense then this series is for you.’
Mine to Selter is the eighth book in the Protection Series by Kennedy L. Mitchell. This is a series of nine standalone instalments that plunged me into a gripping blend of romance, suspense, and heart-pounding action- and kept me engrossed from beginning to end. Each book in the series cleverly combines high-stakes danger with emotion- creating a perfect balance of adrenaline and heartfelt moments.
Ms. Mitchell’s characters leapt off the page- they are strong, resilient, and yet slightly flawed – which made them feel real …. and the chemistry simmering between them is electric and undeniable.
The suspense elements are tightly woven into the well-developed plots – and I was certainly kept guessing as to how things would play out in the end. Whether it’s unraveling a dangerous conspiracy or facing life-threatening challenges, the tension is palpable, and the stakes feel real, pulling me further into her world of protection, danger, and love.
As well as the action and romance, Ms. Mitchell explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and healing, giving the series extra depth. The pacing is excellent, with just the right mix of fast-paced action and quieter, introspective moments.
The Protection Series is a must-read for fans of romantic suspense - with equal parts of heart and edge-of-your-seat excitement!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Kennedy L. Mitchell!

Thank you to Kennedy who let me read this story in advance. It was a thrilling experience!

This book is the perfect mix between romance and suspense.
We have Hudson, a detective in the sex crimes unit who suspects a stalker/ murderer from his previous case a few years prior is back and hunting his remaining victims who survived the first time around. His guilt and nagging conscience will not let him rest until the killer is put away and the women feel safe again. The only problem? There is no evidence and time is running out with very few people willing to help.
Hudson starts a friendship with one of the women (Calista) and now they’re trying to navigate this situation together. Calista has had a rough upbringing, never able to trust people because the ones that were supposed to protect her abused her trust and took advantage of it. Now the stakes are really high since she’s also a single mom. Hudson is now trying to not only protect the victims but Calista and her little girl who found their way into his heart. Their dynamic and relationship is really nice and it shows us the softer side to the whole story.

We get the criminals POV told from an unknown/anonymous space. We see his inner thoughts while he obsesses over the victims, stalking Calista and waiting for his chance to attack.
It’s really a gripping and mysterious story showing us a side of a sick murdered as well as a man trying to track him down while protecting the potential victims.

You can read this one in a few short days! It comes out on October 8th!
