Rate this book
A professor kindles passion, but hides his true motives, in this enticing drama about the chances we take for loveNoble McEntire is the perfect excuse for Emily Becket to change her straitlaced ways. Tall, dark, and devastatingly handsome, he is new to her small Southern town, which makes him even more alluring. And as it happens, Noble is interested in the Civil War–era letters in her attic that might hold the key to clearing the name of Noble’s maligned ancestor—and she’s very interested in Noble. But while Emily finds him irresistible and is ready to give herself up to him in unconditional surrender, the professor has deceitful plans of his own. With its unexpected plot twists, Poor Emily is an addictive blend of mystery and romance.  This ebook features an extended biography of Mary Kay McComas.

An interesting book. Two people who share a history through their ancestors meet and fall in love. Emily Becket is just turning thirty and questioning the direction of her life when a lawyer from Philadelphia, Noble McEntire, comes to town looking for information to clear the reputation of his ancestor.

The story was cute and the characters were engaging. However, the romance was rather an insta-love thing and there was really no conflict to speak of. I enjoyed it, but I think it could have been better.

Typical romance novel

I’m not in romance novels, and I started this book thinking it would be some kind of a suspense or mystery novel and was very disappointed. It’s just your typical awful romance book and not worth the read.
