With many challenges, trials, and tribulations riddling their path, Asterios and the girls successfully made it through the realm of valkyrjas and reached the Descending Spire's final floor. The task to pierce the inverted tower's defenses was an arduous one but provided them with some great revelations about Ast's past and his true identity. At the same time, Bryn discovered something new too. Now, with their main goal secured, they have a lot to think about before returning home...
But are they going to finally find a moment of respite after doing so? Is everything alright back in Glimmervale? There's only one way to check and our adventurous party certainly isn't going to shy away from more trouble, be it from new or old friends and foes.
With how much they had learned during their expedition, they certainly have many options to explore.
Given the climate, the tension in the social aspects of society, the whole lesbian/bi troppe is a turnoff to me. Don't get me wrong, playing around and having fun has its place, but this turned from a harem into mutiple relationships under the umbrella of harem, which is nothing but lazy writing. It's a copout because the writer is too lazy to actually dive into the complications of what relations in that type of relationship entails. It's just another series, which only disappoints in the end!
And five percent story. That's it. The entire front end is of life, but at a terrible pace. The character interactions are saccharin sweet and predictable. The back end is all set up, and just more of the same level of boring predictability. The last five percent is actual story, very rushed story. The ideas are all here, but quality control has fallen off.
I’ve consumed the entire series in a span of a handful of days. Absolutely love the world building, character building, and logical plot. This book has a few points that I felt were uncharacteristic. And please know I say this out of love for a series I am totally hooked on.
****Spoilers Ahead****
So Red has been running and hiding for centuries. Any true Dragon is likely to report back to black or any other true dragons, who by nature would kill Ast. Ast is smart enough to know this and conceal his dragon heritage to others unless he truly trusts them or the need arises, and even then he takes precautions to make sure it isn’t shared freely as he understands this is not just a threat to him but his mates. Yes he flaunts it in Brynn’s realm and Miria’s realm, but is cautious about it in his own realm as it can be traced back to him directly.
Given all of that… when the Queen casually mentions that he is a dragon.. the resolution to that is just Miria choking out the elf who had their mind read. And this is before it was revealed that she was testing his character. Totally makes sense and in line with what we know of the character from the queen’s side. She’s smart enough to notice the exclusion in the report and in fear of betrayal against her people, she reads the elf’s mind. Miria and Selene believe the elf broke the oath. The elf considered suicide to keep the oath and is accepting of her faith. Those all make sense.
How the hell is Ast so passive in all of that??? Growled to request a private audience. An unknown power with unknown connections (history already says elves have contact with lesser dragons which could even be linked to other true dragons), knows your secret that could lead to the death of you and your mates. Ast isn’t hot-headed unless it’s a threat to his loved ones and this is the guy that would have scorched and killed the demon king for insulting his mates during his taunts. How is he not more cautious of this potential threat?
I get that Ast doesn’t care about being looked down on and being treated like crap. I get that he’s got a huge inhuman tolerance and is calm and calculated, super forgiving, willing to give others a second chance, and doesn’t want to cause a diplomatic incident. But how does he not have a single shred of caution… at being put in such a prone position against so much unknown… especially when he already put together that the Queen knows about his eyes and thus is in contact with someone that knows about true dragons?
I’m not saying kill her, attack her, or react immaturely, cause that isn’t who Ast is. Just something.. not just go along and then luckily it’s a lesser dragon that is helpful and becomes an Ally. And you can’t say Ast cares about societal rules and respects diplomatic relations when he just strolled up to the noble’s house in book 1 or 2? And had a brilliant showing with Roz’s family. Sure that was a direct threat to Kindra but he had enough caution for disguises etc, and how he approached them. If that reaction is a 10, I’m saying maybe a 3.
Also the queen is a brilliant character, full of arrogance and thinks she can test a true dragon, emotional enough when it comes to Althea to do dumb things, but there were really no consequences. Selene immediately begged for forgiveness after her first impression. Blood summoning dragon lady got killed by red. Umbra humbled himself, even though he wasn’t that big a douche upon meeting. The king got flexed on with his security being ignored. Demon king almost got his flesh melted. Each of these add to Ast gaining respect, a bond being formed, and creates each character’s own growth. Fleshes them out amazingly. Hell, even Miria’s pursuer got his arm broken.
The queen, demands Ast help him, treats him like he is lesser because “I tested his character and he’s a pushover”. Her friend gets the initial help she needs. She gets the spellsong duo returned(or at least make up with them before they leave for Glimmervale?), she gets the ancient enemy that was growing under her nose taken care of for her, she loses a duel but brushes it off as “we were just testing your weapon so this doesn’t count”, she loses the tree but keeps the blessing, her friend gets her life saved. And through all this, at the end of the book, she seems to still be the same person as when we first met her. It just feels unsatisfying because Saileri has done such an amazing job with the character growth of each side character, from Selen’s curse, Miria’s timidness, to Brynn’s insecurity, Radir’s relationship with his daughter to even Camille and her general distrust of Silvia’s suitors.
Maybe I just have misinterpreted the level of danger true dragons possess that it bothers me Ast isn’t as cautious, and maybe Saileri has different plans in his next book for the queen that we’ll get to see when Althea decides to leave with Ast. But in spite of my grievances, this is such an amazing series and I simply can’t wait to read the next one!!!
After a year of not reading the series, I had some time to pick up this book after not really enjoying #7 and I was impressed. The writing has always been fantastic, just didn’t love the arc on Bryns planet. However that has been rectified. Nothing comes out of nowhere, every story is sort of connected while the main plot line with red is still going strong. As of now, he has a great end in sight and this will go down as one of the best in this genre. His stories are long, but individual with a beginning, middle and end, yet all are interconnected. Most authors either fail to write one good story for each book while focusing on a main plot or each book is a new story. It may not be perfect, but it altogether is one good series. I just hope asterios kills red in the end
I enjoyed the book. It's worth the read if you've enjoyed the book so far. My only complaint is the last boss battle was a bit convoluted.
Also not a big complaint, but there were quite a few places where common english turns of phrase were slightly off. Like "back and call" instead of "beck and call." There were other even more common ones that escape me at the moment.
Ast and his mates are traveling to the elven kingdom to find an ally and evil foe - the Matriarch.
They find a lesser being that is able to help Ast and his’ three sources. Meanwhile the eleven kingdom keeps a secret that needs to be protected at all costs but it looks like that someone is a traitor, because only a person with intimate information could endanger the secret as it’s done at the moment.
The only issue I have, is to wait until the next book is available.

The author's writing and character development have grown with each new book he puts out. The story doesn't rely on plot armor and the MC and his mates grow with each new novel in a believable way. The MC doesn't just add women into his harem just because they are there and I really like the whole "quality vs quantity" approach. I cannot wait for the next novel to be released.
I’ve loved this series ever since I found it a little over a year ago and have read the entire series start to finish when ever a new book comes out. I can’t wait for the new book to be released this march so I can continue with these amazing characters and this story. Hope you continue to write and come up with more in the future. Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely, A Dad and husband in a family of 7 who loves RPG books and games of any kind.
I completely love this work; from the introductory volume to this - the eighth installment. Just can’t thank Author Saileri enough for his efforts in creating and nurturing this story with so much care. Truly one of my all-time favorites.
Ast and his harem are growing friends and an army is different realms. He still is learning about being a powerful True Dragon Summoner, but they still need to fight for those whom can not fight for their selves. Evil is still evil until someone steps up and fights for good.
The story continues to interest me and I like the characters within the group. I have started to notice more frequent occasions of moments when the sentence structures seem to be off/jumbled up. These moments look to me like they were rewritten at times, or an extra word was added here and there, but then they weren’t picked up during the editing and proofreading stage.
The story has continued to grow and grow just as the MC and his family has!!!! What a wonderful world the author has created for our imaginations to roam in!!! I can't wait to see what comes next!!!
A very good story. Was slow at certain parts especially that whole date chapter but overall very enjoyable. The only complaint I have is it seems there will be no new summons but I guess that makes things simpler. Still lots of growth and interested to see where it goes.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
Story moves kind of slowly in places until the end which was exciting. Sad that Ast did not hook up with the elf queen, especially after the description of her.
