Chosen by Freya #1

Mantle Of A God

Rate this book
Terra Olson is an archeologist in the making.

When she gets an opportunity to work with one of her idols at a dig that may contain artifacts linked with Norse mythology, she jumps at the offer. What more could she ask for?

Probably to not be betrayed by that very same idol.

She’d expected the job to be a killer…just not in the buried-alive-and-left-to-die-alone way. How could she have seen that coming?

But she is not alone.

She finds one of the treasures of the goddess Freya and learns that she is no myth. The artifacts they were searching for become her salvation, and the start of her new life.

Through her findings, Terra learns about the connection between Asgard and Earth…and gets caught up in a battle that could change history.

Her onetime mentor thought she was a nobody, easily left for dead with no one who would care. Now Terra has become the chosen of Freya and she wields both her majesty and her wrath in the fight for the future of magic.

Can Terra survive by ascending to become more than human? Or will she get caught in the crossfire between those who wish to protect the hidden realm and those who wish to expose magic for malicious purposes?

Good Airplane Landing

You know what they say about any landing you can walk away from.

Terra almost dies at the start of the book. She is left for dead. She figures out the first riddle and the story goes from there.

A few minor plot complications like a tutor with an appreciation for mead do not slow the story down.

A fun read and likeable characters.

Eagerly awaiting the next book!

When I first started this book it was interesting but a little bit slow, and I thought that it would get better as it went through the book but unfortunately it did not. There didn’t seem to be too much action in this book and the action that was in this book wasn’t really very interesting either. Terra is a want to be our geologist and ends up on a dig site where she is almost killed by a greedy archaeologist. Then lo and behold she finds how to get into the vault of the goddess, then she just happens to find her way out and treks across Iceland to a place where she is safe. This book was just corny all the way through. I’m not sure if I’m going to even read the next book in the series or not.

I have just finished book 5 of this series and eagerly awaiting book 6. Yet another great read from Michael. If you haven't this started series yet, do so now. Twists and turns packed with adventure; based lots of historic (mythical?) Scandinavian culture.

I have been reading from Michael and his mates for about 5-6 years and am getting ever closer to 1000 books from him and his cohort.

I feel as if Michael has become a good friend even 'tho we have never met, living half a world apart. Now past possible retirement age but still working I have travelled along with him since I came across Death Becomes Her.

If you have discovered Michael more recently, look into some of the earlier books e.g. the Kutherian Gambit Universe of bo0ks. The Zoo series are a must read along with The Feisty Druid and many others.

I have had a dramatic and traumatic family event happen in front of me, which raised the ghosts of PTS from the past. Enjoyed the joys that life has to offer and through all this Michael has been there entertaining and providing respite from the busy world.

Michael I cannot thank you enough other than to encourage other readers to enjoy the amazing worlds you and your friends create for us.

Good story

I know the author has to give some history of Norse mythology and Viking history. I do understand laying a background for the story. I did not like that it took 80% of the book to do so. Yes it was needed, but I felt it could have been better spread out more. I really didn't like the book until the last 5 chapters, but then I was hooked. If I didn't love the author and give it a chance I would have stopped at 5.

Entertaining Read

Terra, an agent for an organization that provides oversight for archeological exploration, finds irregularities at a dig in Iceland. Danger finds her as well as the Goddess Freya. To prevent magical artifacts from falling into evil hands and to follow the expectations of Freya, she must take on the mantle of a god. I like the action, humor, magic, and Norse mythology. I look forward to the next book.

Exciting adventure

Terra is just doing her job, inspecting a dig site, when she finds an ancient artifact and all hell breaks loose. Now she finds herself, with the help of her new companion Leif, working for the goddess Freya by tracking down artifacts and trying to keep them out of the wrong hands. Great start to the new series, with lots of action and magic. I am looking forward to more books in the series.

A most excellent read

This is both the first and second time i've read this book - the first time and the first book i've commenced in 2024 and the 2nd time i've read it.
It is as good the 2nd time around as it was the first.
The story line and characters keep you enthralled from start to finish which like all good books comes unexpectedly - thankfully the follow up books in the series are now written and i can jump straight into them.

I'm reserving judgement on this series. It was a pretty slow start that dealt with a lot of extreme details and build up. It's hard to tell so far exactly where this one might be going. Overall, it seems we have a bit of an Indiana Jones theme. As one reviewer said, the good guys are very moral, and the bad ones are dastardly. I do plan to read book 2 to see if the story grows and some more action is included or if we sort of stay where we are now.

Another Norse god gets involved in Midgard (Earth)

Another god, another champion, more adventures. It seems that this series will resemble Indiana Jones adventures. Our MC needs to track down and retrieve a series of magical artifacts, while also learning about magic.

The good guys are pleasant and heroic, the bad guys are dastardly. What more can you ask?

The Master strikes again!

Excellent start to a new adventure. I love the characters already, although Terra needs to loosen up a little. I’m really looking forward to seeing where the story takes us next. This kept me entertained from the first page to the last and left me wanting more.

Competent Stock Tale

A little on the slow side. But that made it very easy and clear reading. Not real int
ense action, except in two short passages. Mostly mundane plodding story of discovery. This may change in sequel books as magic moves from plot background to something central to events.

interesting story.

I enjoyed reading this book. An Asguardian god decides to bless a human woman in an archaeology dig. This is a great origins story. This book is clean of sexual content but has profanity in it.

Terra find herself backed into a corner at an archaeology dig. Her only way out is an unexpected blessing from an Asguardian God.

Looks like the start of another good series.

I've read a lot of books written by this author and those he works with. About 75 percent of it I've loved or liked. A safe bet if you're looking for a new book.

A great book.

Mr. Anderle knows how to write stories about the Norse God's and history. The story flows from scene to scene with no drawn-out filler. The book has magic, mystery, and action to keep your attention. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Set-up book

This seems more like the set-up for a good story. All the players have been introduced and back stories defined. A little action to keep us interested and an excellent epilogue. Looking forward to the next installment.

Say yes!

Dreams & desires often collide with the cold light of day. Our POV wanted one thing & life gave her another, so she's making lemonade. Her first job leads to an incredible, life changing discovery , all she has to do is accept it.

A woman named Terra is a budding archaeologist. She's very interested in Viking mythology and the book goes into that some. She goes to a cave where a dig is proceeding but gets no cooperation from the workers there.

So she decides to look around on her own and finds a seven foot tall statue. That would be important enough except that Freya actually appears to her.

Which would be really good but the cave collapses. Terra manages to find a couple bracelets and we go into the main part of the story where the evil archaeologists want to kill her and take what she's found, an evil woman that appears to be in charge of everything and the question.

Can Terra escape from those who want what she found or will they find her and, without any doubt, kill her.

I love the Norse mythology in the book, the way things happen with the Freya statue and Freya herself and the complexity of what is going on. All the characters also are done well.
