The Ranger King is the nail-biting final book in The Crafter Chronicles epic fantasy series. If you like flawed but brave characters, high-stakes drama, and magical combat, then you need Matthew B. Berg’s breathtaking conclusion. Buy The Ranger King to face the final evil today! Readers love The Crafter’s Son! “ This book blew me away. I absolutely loved it and couldn't bear for it to end. It does start a bit slowly, stick with it, cause when it takes off it will grab you! Well done to the author for such a compelling story. I cannot wait to see what comes next. Simply brilliant!”
“It is good creative writing without resorting to excessive violence, gore or sex. (Useless, overused tricks). I’m 71, retired and a veteran of a lifetime of reading fantasy. Most plots are derivative from earlier works, but creativity and writing skill make the old formats fresh again. It’s nice to see that there are budding Tolkien level writers publishing. I’ll certainly buy the sequels.”
“Very enjoyable story and easy to read. There were times I couldn’t put the book down until I got through a certain event. Definitely a must read. Look forward to the next installment.”
"I’ve read [The Crafter's Son] and it’s terrific! [Berg] writes beautifully and, if you love epic fantasy like he obviously does, you will love the story line. Eddings meets Tolkien with some Tad Williams influences as well."
“It was a great book. Can't wait for the next. Had me hooked from the very beginning. A must read!”
“The author does a fantastic job of putting you in the life of the characters rather than simply observing them. The storyline is intellectually stimulating, which was refreshing in a fantasy plot , rather than a passive narrative. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book!”
“Mr. Berg lays a solid foundation for a more and more intriguing story. Each of the characters slowly fills out until you are well and truly hooked. I'm eagerly anticipating the next and what will, I'm sure, will be one of my favorite series.”
“Great story and interesting characters. I can't wait for the next book to come out. I love reading a story that is easy to read and hard to put down.”
“Wonderful world building and characters that comes to life. I can't wait for the second book to follow along in the journey!”
“This book exceeded my expectations. As in any great book the plotline is important but, the character development is key. I look forward to visiting these characters again.”
“I am reading this book to my grandkids who were enraptured. It has all the elements of a great fantasy. Good versus evil. Brave and daring young protagonists and an interesting plot.”
“I read a lot of this type of book and really enjoyed the world the author created. Very believable. As mentioned in another review, this book is mostly a beginning to a longer saga. But a very enjoyable beginning. It was well written and well edited. . . . Looking forward to the next book in the series. I would recommend this.”
Matthew B. Berg writes thoughtful stories, with rich and believable characters.
Berg tries to write the kind of stories he’d want to read himself. Tales that inspire and make the reader think. Stories that aren’t easy or predictable, and don’t shirk from darkness, grit and realism. But, in an effort to make his works accessible to a wide audience, he avoids presenting violence and sexuality in a graphic or sensationalized way.
Matthew grew up on the swashbuckling heroics of Errol Flynn and Burt Lancaster. And the creative characters and world-building of Brooks, Tolkien, Eddings, and Donaldson. He embraces the trappings of medieval/renaissance fantasy in his writing to remind you (and him) that what you are reading is an escape. Though he rejects any suggestion that wonder and adventure, romance and chivalry, lack a place in our modern world. Ultimately, he wants his readers to remember that while darkness and evil exist, there are still reasons to be hopeful. Like Breeden and his friends, humans in the real world can rise to meet the challenges of whatever we might face.
It has been some time since I have been so disappointed, not just because I had finished a book, but so much more .
Matthew's storytelling had drawn me in completely, and I had started to really enjoy the world he had created. Especially the existential landscape he has crafted. The personalities he built individually and collectively demonstrate a remarkable ability to grasp, and share, the whole range of human behaviour, displaying a masterly insight into those subtle nuances that make our species so fascinating.
His ability to thread these insights through such gripping stories shows a remarkable gift - but I find myself wanting more. There must be many readers who join me in my disappointment. What happened next? What are challenges that Kestrel has to face? and, How does Breeden return, and open new and exciting journies for those characters we have come to love. Come on Matthew, give us more - at least a second, continuing, trilogy!!!! SOON!!!!!!!
Who is the Ranger King you might ask? Read the story for the reveal as the last chapter of the book. This is an epic saga as the gods wage war for Erda. A diverse collection of individuals is traced as they work their way through their lives in the current world. It is driven a lot by what happened in the past. You, the reader, need to read the previous stories to fully understand who and how they are related.
Battles, many very epic, are the storyline. The plot works its way through the thoughts and beliefs of the protagonists. The true evil that a person can be is revealed, one plot detail at a time. There is romance, but it seems not time for it. There is another suggestion of romance, but someone will be betrayed.
The final book in the Crafter Chronicles trilogy finishes off the saga of evil versus good. Evil plots, characters make life changing choices, friendships strengthen, gods scheme and armies fight. Friends become enemies as the story twists and turns. Ancient gods fight each with one planning to take over the entire world and the other trying to save the world. Man, elves, dwarves and their friends come together to fight evil. A great ending to this saga. Looking forward to more books.
I don't want to do spoilers,,,,this series is so good and satisfying. I will tell you that almost at the very end I was sobbing and weeping like a loon,, happy tears,,,just get started reading y'all. If fantasy and magic and heroes and all the things are for you,,,,Get Started on this series and be happy,,, like me !!
It honestly felt like the author got bored or felt his plot development was flawed and just nuked the series so he could go on with life. Pretty disappointing, overall.
A little magic, some royals, politics, and the character flaws we all have make this series enjoyable. I like Berg's writing. A nice combination of characters and plot.
Very unsatisfying finish as far as I'm concerned. Finished all in a rush. Some characters disappear, and some get elevated out of left field. What is it lately where the MC's of most of the series get abandoned at the end?
