When you separate yourself from the pack and become a top-producing salesperson, leadership opportunities happen. But when they do, are you prepared to lead? Ryan and Chad Estis weren’t. Prepare for Impact unpacks the playbook the Estis brothers used to succeed, first by using thirty simple steps to achieve ambitious sales goals and then by following nine tactics that answer the question of how leaders can show up for their teams, help them achieve their potential, and find fulfillment at work and in life. Today, Ryan is a globally recognized sales and leadership expert, founding partner of ImpactEleven, and keynote speaker helping many of the world’s best-known brands deliver growth. Chad leads business operations for the Dallas Cowboys, the most valuable sports franchise on the planet. Through drive and commitment, Ryan and Chad Estis know how to get results and foster deep connections. Prepare for Impact is their entertaining, actionable approach to making your own impact at any point in your career and in turn helping make the world of work a better place.
Having spent a number of years in mid-level management of a large company, I wondered as to how I might respond to the suggestions contained in this book. By and large I loved their recommendations and wish that the organizations I was associated with had followed their guidance. Of the 30 steps discussed, a favorite of mine (contained within the "Surround Yourself with Successful People" narrative) is to create your own personal board of directors, comprised of people you respect and whose expertise can help you move forward. Maybe it's just me but the one I didn't care for as much was the "Assume the Sale" narrative. Back in the day I would have been turned off in a major way had someone boldly asked me before the start of a presentation what would prevent me from moving forward. In fairness, the authors stressed that salesmen need to be careful to not offend.
All in all, a great book full of ideas that I wish more people would explore. I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. Thanks to Amplify Publishing for the free copy. The above opinions are my own.
My old friend Ryan Estis, and his brother Chad, have written an immensely useful book about how to succeed in business life, especially sales, and especially leadership. They intertwine the 30 lessons they've learned (and which you should learn too) with their personal story as brothers, highly competitive brothers, who nonetheless love and support each other always. It's a story that brings specificity and integrity to the 30 lessons (and the 9 tactics of leadership) which might otherwise sound too general to be helpful to all. A wise, funny, and thought-provoking book.
There are some good moments in this book with some powerful life stories and advice. Unfortunately the lack of focus for the narrative makes this a hard book to recommend. Having "30 Steps" and "9 Tactics" is just overwhelming and left me confused on what was really important. Rather than 30 Steps it would be have been much better if they could have distilled them down into 2 or 3 critical steps, giving the reader a path to follow rather than just a info dump.
In sharing their first hand experience in sales, the authors expound on thirty simple steps and what they term nine tactics for human design centered leadership and the simplicity with which they write this book makes it relatable across all disciplines. Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
Thank you to Amplify publishing for the free copy. Good read for managers or anyone in sales. I am neither of those but enjoyed this book and found some great tips to use at my job.
