B’s book - not a family favourite and not reached for often. It does offer some simple words but the yellow duck is not well hidden in this book so B kept getting distracted by the duck rather than listening/looking at the story.
Not my son's favourite, and by no means a classic. Apparently they're written to explore phonics, so there are many repeated rhyming sounds throughout, which I suppose will help him learn English sounds when he starts to speak, but otherwise just sounds a bit repetitive right now.
Love the series with its delightful illustrations, recurring characters and a rhyme and rhythm that make it fun to read aloud. For example, Ted cutting slices of wood and saying 'This wood is good, this slice is nice'.
Great book, easy words for children learning to read. Like the fact that while it uses phonics there are also "patterns" for the words eg Goose and Loose so is suited to pattern recognition methods of learning to read as well.
Have bought the whole series as daughter loves these. While the words are simple there's still enough of a story/action to keep her interested (just) while too many early reading books are three word sentences, one sentence per page and only a few pages per book.
This set of books is top of the learn to read books we've come across so far.
Usborne Phonics products are specially designed to help children learn how to read. They incorporate fun and learning. Children learn so much when they are young and their brain is forming so quickly. By incorporating reading into the things that they learn early on, they are more likely to succeed. Great book for beginning readers. This book has similar sounding words and the words are pretty simple for young kids. I really like all of the Usborne phonics books because they would be great for small reading groups of young elementary students.
another great phonics book for early readers. My daughter struggled a bit more with this as a few extra words thrown in that were more complicated. Still fun and clever and educational.
