I was actually going to give this book 3 stars (a lot of it is pretty dull and quite obvious if you’ve already worked in music ministry at some point), but I reached the last 50 or so pages and found a lot of practical content and ideas. It’s really directed at music ministry work, so not widely recommended.
Ranks right up there with books I have read relating to how the work of the church musician. As a part-time organist, it is often a challenge to balance that with my day job. This book helped to reinforce what I know to be important about setting limits for effective ministry. One can only do so much each week, and the author suggested ways to plan ahead. Sometimes the responsibilities of a church musician can be overwhelming. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a church musician, whether they are early or late in their career, part-time or full-time. The Appendices listing many music organizations and Bibliography are a very helpful resources. This will be a book that I will continue to refer back to.
