I read this book approximately one million years ago, while I was either in middle or high school. I think I grabbed it from the library and read it while I was on vacation, possibly in Florida. I seem to recall enjoying it at the time, in part because I had never before read pure military science fiction like it. The narrative is almost wall-to-wall action with everything from fleets of spaceships throwing nukes at each other to small groups fighting aliens with mental powers. It definitely tickled my Star Wars nerve, though it's much darker in its tone and depiction of graphic violence. I can imagine myself reading it again if I stumbled upon a copy at a used bookstore, but I wonder if that would ruin my nostalgic recollection? It seems quite possible that the story and prose would not live up to my memories of them.

Berry pushes history WAY back which I like. The scale is immense. The action is fast paced and brutal, but not overly graphic. Good read.
