first of all, i’m the one who’s the most surprised by that rating. i almost gave it 5 stars. i know it’s shocking.

first of all, to read this you need to get over the fact that some of these characters kill for sport and another eats them.
hey, i’m not saying it’s an easy thing to get over, just that you have to. or don’t. honestly i don’t care that much.

then, we were all wondering the same thing, right?
is this another trashy, horrible, written-with-feet, should’ve stayed a thought, kind of book?
honestly, no.
i’m not saying in any way that it’ll win a pulitzer any time soon, just that it’s not that bad.

is it predictable at times? yes. but that is not a crime.
(like killing and cannibalism, just to mention some).
it’s actually really fucking interesting.
it’s definitely long to be a contemporary series and i didn’t feel like it needed to be shorter. and coming from me, that’s saying something.

my biggest issue, and the reason why it’s 4 stars instead of 5, is that this is basically a prologue. yeah i know i sound crazy. it is super entertaining and stuff definitely happens, however i would consider this as a giant ass prologue and i’m not sure that i like that. it definitely was needed because these 4 (or should i say 6? more?) fuckers have a ton of backstory. i actually wanted to know more about what happens now.

at this point you guys are probably wondering if im getting paid for this because lately my reviews are slightly different versions of “what the fuck is this shit”, however no. which is honestly disappointing because that’s literally my dream job.

that’s all

I can’t do it. I’m still new to the dark romance genre and honestly, even if I read them regularly I don’t think I would be able to stomach this. Literally.

Killing innocent women and eating their bodies is not hot. I can’t root for men like that in a romance I’m sorry 😭

It was also a bit slow of a start, and I’m sad to miss out on all the men coming together finally but I feel like it won’t get much tamer once that happens, so it’s best I stop now.

I think I’m too empathetic to read about men who get turned on by torture, death, killing, eating people, etc. so it’s just not for me.

Okay so here's the deal with Phoenix, it's dark, it's spicy, it's full of trauma, it's a roller coaster, it's got triggers galore. BUT it's delish. The men are .. chef's kiss (ha. read it, see what I did there. ha). These men truly care about their relationship and the relationship with Killian. I loved how this book delved into the world of mental health and what it could look like with and for someone who may or may not have control of their own mental health. It was very interesting to see. I loved the spice, I loved the suspense, and I absolutely loved the build up in the story. What I didn't love is the questions and the massive cliffy! UGGGH!! Going to get book 2 right now!!

Um, excuse me??? Who gave the author the right to end on a cliffhanger like this????

I have to admit after reading the first chapter I was worried this wouldn't be for me, but then I went and read it in like less than 4 days despite being over 400 pages...and I'm not exactly a fast reader. This book was so addictive, I just kept wanting to pick it up. I felt like the author was just giving us enough to keep us coming back for more. Who is the killer? Does Killian have something wrong with him?? When will he finally give in and let his men love him???!! So much good stuff going on.

I will say that I found myself so frustrated with Killian for a lot of this book, to the point were it impacted my enjoyment a bit, but overall I the characters all grew on me, especially our cannibal, which is funny since the first chapter made me think he would be my least favorite character and he ended up being my favorite! I will definitely be continuing this series ASAP!

I absolutely love the darkness and the three terrors. Killian is a journalist…well he wants to be, but all he’s been so far is a minion and a researcher. We quickly learn Killian has HMD, and he has another personality, Dark. Killian has had three men in three years that he has been involved with and walked away from, against Dark’s wishes. Phoenix, Ryker and Merchant. Each of them different, each of them calls to Killian and Dark. Killian ends up back in their grasps and lots of darkness ensues. Meanwhile, there’s another terror in town that has encroached on the three terrors territory and a dead body shows up with no leads. And Killian is falling apart from the stress of his three men coming back into his life. So much craziness happens. These guys are all dark and twisted together. It masterfully written and wonderfully creative with all the dark and crazy swirling around. It does end on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book!

Holy. Mother. Multiple. Personalities.

If you are looking for a book that is a taste of something different than you've read before, then you should pick up this book. N Slater gave her own spin on DID and I'm here for it. I have only come across 2 other series that have a DID character, and I need more. So, if you like psy0ch0s with traumatic pasts, unaliving, a DID mmc, love, and all the male goodness you could want then this is it. It has a lot of the elements that I look for in a book and it was definitely one of my top reads of this year. Now to find out what happens in book 2.

Dark, twisted, depraved and absolute perfection. The Terrors along with Killian are all such complex and intriguing characters and as dark as they all are, I became attached to them all. I can not wait to read more from them in the future

Phoenix: dark, spicy, traumatic, triggering, but very interesting read. The men are truly amazing. They care about their relationship and the relationship with Killian. I loved how this book explored mental health and its impact on individuals' lives. It was very interesting to read. The build-up for the story was amazing The spicy is there, I'm here for the suspense as well. The cliffhanger sucks, but good I just download the book 2.

This book took me on a rideeee! It was a pretty slow start, though packed with information that really helped to set the scene for Killian's meeting with our other MMC's. But once they met.... Explosive! Every interaction had me on the edge of my seat, clamoring for more information. The spice was well written and actually helped to carry the story forward. I can already tell that I need to start taking notes because things are escalating and I'm on the edge of my seat salivating for more.

**Minor Spoilers
So, before I go into the book, I just want to say that my real rating is a 3.5 but the system won't let me select that as an option.
But first about the book.
The book is about a MMC Killian who is basically a grunt at a newspaper where he hopes to become a crime reporter. However, those at the paper are taking advantage of his talents to coverup their inadequacies (especially the top 3 reporters) while always promising to promote him or let him rise about simple grunt work. One day his boss wants him to do three tag along one with each of the top 3 reporters to interview the three-star bachelors in their city (a surgeon, chief and 2nd in command police detective). Little do the others in his life and work know but that these three men are past lovers/boyfriends who he ran away from mostly due to his internal fears.
The reason for his fears is that Killian suffers from HMD a fictional disorder (the author explains it more in depth at the start of the book). This disorder is a mental disorder where he has another personality that takes over and that both Killian and the other personality (dark) are aware of each other and talk and are able to have some choice in switching back and forth.
So, when he has to go on these tag alongs with his superiors it forces not just him to confront his feelings for these individuals but also rekindles it on their parts as to them he is the one that got away.
The book deals with Killian working through his own personal issues while also coming to terms with his relationship with these men and if he wants to be with them. Especially when he finds out these three men have very dark secrets. These men also have to come to terms that Killian is more than what he seems and might not be as innocent as he looks.
The book also deals with three serial un-alivers the skinner, the cannibal and the King who are terrorizing the city that the police are not even close to catching.
This book

I really did enjoy the book it was a solid read with solid writing. I think the reason this is a 3.5 for me was that while the story line and writing was solid, I did have trouble enjoying the characters or at least the three ex's because I really liked Killian and just want to wrap him up in a blanket and take care of him. He reminded me of a scared rabbit that was one panic attack away from a nervous breakdown. But with the three ex's there were so many names/identities to keep track of that when the story focused on one of them, I had to run through all the names and their identities in my head to keep track of who they are. Some of these names in my opinion didn't even add to the story so I feel they may have been a little unnecessary but book does leave on a cliff hanger so it is entirely possible that these other names could become relevant. This is just for me at this time a distraction that made it harder for me to enjoy the characters but for other people this might not be an issue and should not deter anyone from reading this book. I did enjoy the story and would love to see where the next installment goes. The only other critique I have is that the one group spicy time session towards the end of the book felt rushed. One moment they are at the door then they are kissing and then we are in the middle of pound town with an inference of what came before that, and the scene felt rushed as well. I just feel the whole scene was incomplete. I again would still recommend this book and I will be reading the 2nd once its published as I am curious where the story goes.

Phoenix, book 1 of The Revelations series, by N. Slater @slater.47. Read the trigger warnings & this book ends on a cliffhanger! First off, I am a fan of N’s & this book was no different!

this book is brilliant, twisted, complex and dark. Not a single character was simple or not adding to the story, that is very magnetic to read. I couldn't put the book down at all because I felt absort by it.
Also really loved the writting style. Great book on my opinion

If you're in the mood for an MMMM romance that's hotter than a desert sun, then "Phoenix" is your next read!

We've got four main players in this steamy love drama - yes, FOUR: Aeron, Samael, Killian, and Slash. At least at first. We learn that 3 of them are serial unalivers. One of them even has a proclivity for uhhhh tasting his handiwork. The city has been under mandated curfews because of these 3 unalivers.

Enter Killian. A beautiful, innocent-looking young journalist with heterochromia that has been having a hell of time at work and with his mind. You see, he suffers from a mental condition where there is a side of him that craves violence. He calls it Dark and they have an interesting internal monologue running throughout the book.

Now, imagine you’re having the WORST day at work. Your boss is all kinds of screwed up, your work isn’t getting recognized, you're broke and having to go through free snacks at work like a raccoon. And then you get ordered to assist in the interviewing of your three EXES. The same ones you walked out on during the last couple of years. Because Dark, remember?

Phoenix, the culinary master with eyes like a tropical ocean and hair that screams 'I'm here to party,' is on a mission to win Killian back. But oh, there's more! Ryker, the tall, muscled surgeon with a wardrobe full of sharp suits, will make your heart race faster than a caffeine overdose. Then there’s Merchant, the muscled up detective who works for the Chief of Police. Who also happens to be Killian’s dad. Eeeeek talk about uncomfy.

Now, what sets "Phoenix" apart is how it serves up all those spicy moments. I wouldn’t say it’s a slow burn. You know that lobster analogy? The lobster doesn’t know it’s being cooked until it’s boiling. Yeah. Slater cranks up the heat as you go, and it is omg-so-hot! 🥵 Trust me; you'll need a fan handy while reading this.

The flashbacks and memories are done in a very impressive way. They’re usually random in the middle of chapters but the way they’re mixed in with almost blurred edges between the flashbacks and the chapter writing, it almost feels like those That’s So Raven moments when she would get a vision… that. Very cool. And also very hot.

Phoenix is a 5-star read for me and N. Slater a new one-click author. This was my first read by this author and I already have all the other books on my TBR. I absolutely loved every second of it. The characters are so well-crafted that I was thinking of them all the time. The pacing is magnificent, the spice is spicin’ and the plot twists will keep you on your toes.

Since I'm totally hooked and in love with these guys, I made it a priority to reread the book in its entirety.
What can I say? I love it, is not even close to enough.

The changes you made are wonderful. Not only do they add some depth to the overall story, they also lighten it up.

Slater has their own unique style. They enchant you and never let you go. Once you've started reading, you're dying to know what happens next. And they don't make it easy. One unexpected twist follows the next - it's incredibly exciting and thrilling to read how they send their characters through hell and back again.
The characters themselves are to fall in love with. They are complex, have secrets - from others, from those they love the most, but also from themselves. And even though they are the bad guys.... you just can't help but feel for them. Precisely because they are complex and not just bad. They are vulnerable, love deeply, and place incredible value on honesty (with each other) and loyalty.
And seriously, who actually said that you can't, shouldn't, or mustn't love the bad guys? That's right - no one! For every character, for every decision, there is a story and I for one can't wait to find out.

And then there's the main character, who seems so vulnerable and innocent that it's hard to imagine him being attracted to the tough and really bad guys. But maybe it's just the well-known opposites that attract each other. At this point, Slater has managed to put the character's feelings into words in such a way that you can relate to him.

The course of the story is predictable in some places, which is not a bad thing, because the many surprises that await you make up for it.

All the characters in this book have their own pasts, and just as you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, you shouldn't judge people by their actions and decisions alone.
Sometimes behind a sarcastic asshole, there's an incredibly funny, open-minded guy who hides his vulnerability behind this mask of seriousness and insolence.

I can only recommend this book. Not only because of the kinky, very hot, sex scenes - but also because it can give you a completely different perspective on the world if you are willing to engage with it.

Where to start... this book was very surprising. It threw my heart every which way, but it was the good kind of ache. N. Slater nailed her characters and gave them such dimension that you can physically see how they are acting in your head. I'm beyond words with this book. From the very beginning of the book to the last page, it was freaking phenomenal and would totally recommend reading this nail-biter. The muder, mystery, romance... oh my! *lol* Reading this arc book was a wonderful opportunity, and I'm thankful to the author for allowing me to read it. Thank you for writing a quick paced book that keeps your attention the entire time.
In the beginning, you learn about the three spree killers and how they are causing havoc on the town of Primrose, and you learn there is a new killer in town.
The main character, Killian, has a personality disorder but still mostly functions as a normal human being. He has 3 ex loves... Phoenix, Ryker, and Merchant. And let me tell you those 3 bring all the spice! They all come back into his life due to interviews for Killian's job. He is afraid of them but is in love with them. As you read through all the interviews, you see that his men are still in love with him as well.
I will say that I figured out early on that his men were the 3 spree killers at large in the town. But, it doesn't detract from the story whatsoever. It just adds to the story because of the murder. AND WHY DOES IT HAVE TO END ON A DAMN CLIFFHANGER OF THAT PROPORTION. ***INTERNALLY SCREAMING****
If you haven't figured it out, I'm VERY ready for book 2 to come out to find out who the new personality is... 🤩🤩🤩

It took absolutely forever to get good. I mean it was incredibly slow. But that’s only because I guessed the biggest plot twist in the book. Because I already knew what was gonna happen it made the book drag.

Also nothing really happened in this book. It’s not dark like all the reviews say. No offense but y’all gotta have some soft ass stomachs cuz there was only like 3 dark scenes. And that was of Aeron eating people. Other than that this whole book was basically a second chance romance until around 75% than it picked up.

I really loved the ending tho and I love all of these characters. The potential of this book made me immediately start book 2. I’m 12% in that one and so far it’s good but I don’t want to speak too soon. At 12% in this book I guessed the plot twist. If that happens again I will have to drop the series because it really ruins the fun if you know what’s gonna happen.

And the HMD is honestly pretty cool. I’m genuinely entertained by that. It stands for Hyzophrenic Manic Disorder. It’s a fake disorder that the author created for this book.

Regardless I love the characters. I hope book 2 is way darker than this because this is probably the lightest dark romance I have ever read and I’ve read unhinged by onley James and that book was extremely light so that’s saying something 🤣

Anyways great start to the series. If there was more murder and less reminiscing I would have rated it higher.

Also there’s not much smut in this the majority is the MCs memories of fucking Ryker, Merchant, And Phoenix. But it was always fade to black. We didn’t get an actual smut scene until the end. Which wouldn’t have bothered me if the author wasn’t teasing us with it for the whole book. Like no murder and no snut. That makes for one boring ass book imo.

Anyways that’s all bye ✌🏽

-ARC review-
I was provided an arc for my honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
🌶🌶🌶.5

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start till finish. It's DARK, twisted, and oh so delicious. I love the characters and the dynamic between them. The conversations between Killian and Dark cracked me up. And the hallway scene with Killian and Phoenix...*frantically fanning my face🪭🥵* ...that is some serious dominant energy! 🖤Dark and Phoenix are definitely my favourite🖤
Killian sure does have some dreamy X's😏

Spice:
There's more talk about spice than actual on page spice scenes, which bulds up the expectations a fair bit. That made it a bit disappointing when the group scene at the end felt rushed. It went from 0 to 100 without anything in-between.

Writing:
It took me some time to get used to the writing style. I found some of the sentences to be unnecessary long. I had to read the same sentence over again to get the correct meaning. It got better throughout the book tho.

Plot:
I did find the plot to be predictable, but I still enjoyed the ride, so I really didn't mind. I both love and hate it when a book ends on a cliffhanger! I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the seires and seeing if my theories for my unanswered questions are correct.

If you like books that are dark and twisted, with a side of psycho and mystery sprinkled on top, then I would highly recommend this book.

⚠️⚠️ check trigger warnings before reading!

I was given a ARC in exchange for a honest review so let’s get into it!

I’ve never read a MMMM book before and this was everything I absolutely needed! This book also has great ways of showing people the inside of someone’s Mental Health and definitely how it can effect your everyday life, reading about this fictional mental disorder - Hyzophrenic Manic Disorder (HMD) was an eye opener to people who do have similar symptoms, and how sometimes people can indeed use toxic ways of coping with it. This book had kept me reeled in from start to finished! I enjoyed reading about how each character comes into play and how it affects our little Killian, how he feels with HIS men. 😏 also reading about those Three terrors in Primrose was something I thought I wouldn’t like about the book, but turns out I REALLY like dark Romances 😂 PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THE TW. If you do not understand what some of those TW are GOOGLE it!
Note that this ends on a cliffhanger and book 2 is Hopefully in the makings right now. I’m DYING for Book 2🖤

But I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone that likes a MMMM and likes Dark romance!

I’m actually mad at myself for not enjoying this the way I thought I will based on previous reads from N. Slater.
Here’s the thing, I LOVE the story, the mystery plot is very interesting, and the writing is very much enjoyable, but there was just something that was missing for me. I knew it’s going to be a slow start, but I didn’t expect it to be almost the end of book 1 till when the real story and plot twists start. Maybe if there wasn’t this constant back and forth from Killian (that drove me crazy) I would have enjoyed more the slow start. I also felt that some (not all) chapters should be longer, and the opposite - some should be shorter.
The plot twist that lead to the cliffhanger was a nice touch. And I really enjoyed the connection between the characters.
I would definitely finish the series. Maybe Ryker will have a better pace but I would wait for the last book to be released because yeah, cliffhangers… i need to KNOOOOW 😭

Ok… so I was super hesitant to read this book because it involves a cannibal… BUT HEAR ME OUT!! I love him 😭

I’m all for some dark romance and even don’t mind when there’s serial unalivers, but when I tell you that you NEED to check triggers before reading this book, I’m not kidding! Check those triggers!!

With that being said:
Easy 5/5 stars! 😂
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✔️MMMM
✔️ Serial unalivers
✔️ Cinnamon roll *nom nom* 💀 people
✔️ Psycho Alphas
✔️ Twists
✔️ Just straight up chaos in the best way!
✔️🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥

The way that I NEED book 2 right now because of that cliffhanger! I’m gonna be honest and say I saw MMMM and drove right in without reading anything else about this book 👀 Zero regrets though. It was certainly surprising and took me on a dark, steamy and crazy ride that I wish I could read for the first time again.

Running to read other books written by N. Slater now

I was told what to expect going in and I was still somehow shocked by it. The writing style and structure is fantastic. I loved how the characters were all different but molded together.
The character names did get a little confusing with all the identities but it doesn't take away from the story at all. Also, despite the story being spicy, there are very few spicy scenes (I didn't hate that though. It was mostly seamless.)
Killian is a pretty unpredictable character but I loved seeing his turmoil and the way he interacted with his men. I definitely recommend it. It does end on a cliffy Can't wait for the next one.
Please read the trigger warnings. This story is definitely not for everyone.
Got this an ARC and I'm grateful for it:)

I was given Phoenix as an ARC in exchange for my review!

That being said, Phoenix follows a man named Killian who is a pushover at a newspaper trying to follow his dream of being a journalist. While being taken advantage of by his boss, he ends up having to tag along to interview the three most important men in their city. During each one of the interviews, we see Killian go through some things.

This book is 🥵🥵🥵 if you like MMMM. The plot is great, the background building is great. The plot twist was great. I fell in love with this book and it has taken up a permanent spot in my head. It will keep you thinking and wondering if the theories you came up with are right. It does end on a cliffhanger, but it’s well worth it!
