We have a major problem in our society-a lack of character. Does character count? We say a resounding "Yes"-it does matter! We propose that character does count and that society is placing a higher premium on character. The purpose of this book is to identify character qualities that will make a winning difference in your life. Make it your plan to examine at least one character quality each week. Read the short sports story, then do the Pregame Talk, Warmup, Character Training, Go The Distance, The Finish Line and the final chapter exercises. The book is designed to interact with others in a small group setting.
This is actually a three volume set which sets out character traits we should all strive to obtain. It is really geared towards young athletes to be done in a small group. I wish I had been involved with a small group of Christians and studied something like this. I love God and sports so it is a great combo. I did it on my own for my daily devotional.
Each volume contains approximately 16 character traits which are discussed during the session. Each starts off with a short story or two of how an athlete exhibited that character trait in a sporting event. The athlete will then give their testimony. Next up is Bible reading that covers that character trait which is then discussed. There are then 3 warm up questions to be answered by the small group. Character training follows which is 5 short Bible verses a lot of times coming from Proverbs covering that character trait. Go the Distance is next. This involves 3-4 in depth questions that will getting you thinking and talking about applying that character trait in your lives. The Finish Line gives you a Bible verse to memorize. Finally, Character Quality gives a short, memorable phrase that shows the importance of the character trait in your walk with God.
These books are great and I would highly recommend them for Christians of all ages.
