We’ve seen a terrifying number of dragons so far on our journey, but the Panama Canal is crawling with more of the scaly beasts than we ever imagined. And as we slowly make our way through perilous waters, we’re forced to experience the effects something like this can have on the already deadly predators of the area. It seems like things can always get worse in a dragon apocalypse, though. Along with dragons, crocs, and all manner of hungry hunters, we may just be heading straight into the hands of some pretty dangerous humans as well.
Let me start with the positive, I like the adventure of the overall story so far. The dynamic between the characters has improved a lot. I enjoy when the characters have different opinions and debate over those opinions. Bring real life to the characters. The struggles the crew goes through in each book has its high points and low. I enjoy the traveling to the mainland brings more insight into whole the world has changed. Now onto the negative which isn’t that bad considering. I biggest issues with how the story has progressed is the realism of things in the story. Like in book 4 the crew finds them selves at the bottom of a well. Where a nest of eggs are, the size of wells compared to the sizes of the dragons doesn’t make sense on how it got down there. The next thing is the coast guard just seems to far fetch since the crew is now out of U.S. territory. Special with the gathering of the dragons and eggs would seem more like the government would use the navy instead the coast guard. The other thing is why would they be targeting drew and his crew over a hand shake posted on YouTube. Which leads into the other thing, how would the coast guard have drew and his crews information and identity off of YouTube videos that he has never appears in and only speaks in only once. Special when it was stated that the account is setup under a fake name. Like I said in a previous review understanding it’s a fantasy series I get that something won’t be realistic. It honestly feels like the development of the story has kinda stalled. Maybe as I finish the series these things will resolve themselves.
This installment of the Good Pirates was fine but did not seem to grab my attention as much as previous books did. The trip through the canal showed the promise of a large trial and the direction Mr. Vall took the book was a little disappointing to me. I have enjoyed the dynamic of Drew and the Ladies on the boat but this book felt that the drama was a little more forced. I know that the role of the US government and specifically the Coast Guard, a thorn in the Good Pirates side, would have to be addressed but I was not a big fan of how it was handled. The action was still very good, I enjoyed the early components on the yacht with the battles with the local fauna, but felt that their involvement with the Panama government was a little far fetched, even for a book about a post-apocalyptic dragon invasion. I still look forward to the next installment of their adventure. I am curious to see how their adventure changes once they are on the open Pacific Ocean and start to lose sight of both land, especially its ability to provide resupply, and when land based dinosaurs are no longer as strong a threat.
I love how this series has evolved with each book, starting with the apocalypse and adding an element each time.
The way the characters have developed and adapted to challenges has been exciting to read, and when you mix in conspiracies and dangerous threats to Drew and his crew, you don't want to put the book down!
It's a good continuation of the overall story and characters, but it feels like there's a lot of soapbox worthy tangents peppered throughout, especially once the team start traversing the jungle. Lots of comments and rambles on the state of patriotism and the US healthcare system among others. They're not bad, per se, and I tend to agree with most of the sentiments, but it just feels so out of place that it removes you from the moment and drags down the pace of the story.
This was yet another exciting entry in this epic tail of unlikely apocalyptic events, its truly a wonder, and joy to read! I eagerly await the next one!
This is a fast moving after the fall adventure romance. It is well written with no typos and likeable heroes. The heroes get in trouble trying to do right rather than by being stupid.
The author does an excellent job of making the main characters not only relatable to the reader, but very interesting and enjoyable to be around. The plot continues to thicken and bring great amounts of discredit to those in power.
A very good book in the series with surprise developments, romance, drama, action, violence, corruption, and adventure. Eager to read the next book in the series.
Continuation of an interesting plot line. New characters appear and provide some needed relief but not without the consistent danger. Looking forward to #6!
