Deadpool MAX volume one sees Marvel attempt to make an 'adult' Deadpool series similar to the very successful and great to read Punisher MAX series, and not doing that well, even with David Lapham at the helm. The Domino MAX and Baron Zemo Max, are to die for, but are not enough for me tou want to ever read this again. The second six-issue volume of Deadpool MAX is even weaker than the first and both pale against the great Punisher MAX. I read the comic books. A Two Star 5 out of 12 jam.

NOPE.
I read two issues of this horrendous nightmare collection of 19 unrepentantly offensive, ill-conceived, childish, garbage stories and gave up. I didn't even have another book with me that day. I just rode the subway, listening to music and staring off into space, rather than subject myself to another word of this elephant shit.
I have never felt such loathing for a book as rapidly as I felt it for this one. Usually authors ease you into their crazy, but not here. Here we have a completely unnecessary reference (joke?) about anal rape on PAGE TWO. We are relentlessly and immediately thrown into a world that seems to have been created by an 8th grader who just saw Mind of Mencia for the first time and thought "Ooh, I can be more offensive than that!"
I get that Marvel's Max line is meant to be "for adults." But what I take that to mean is it's well-written stories with adult themes (see Alias or PunisherMax), not just "Heh heh boobies and swears equals ADULTZ TIME BAYBEEEEEE." I lost 155% of my respect for David Lapham after reading these first two issues (BTW, there is NOTHING you will ever say to convince me the rest of this book could possibly be good). He treats child abuse, molestation, and rape with all deftness of a battering ram. I don't think he necessarily thought these things were "funny" as much as he thought they were just "offensive," and that that is somehow enough of a reason to include them in a story (a story that, by the way, utterly sucks shit).
I mean, I cannot believe a story like this was written by a fairly respected author within the past 15 years. Could it show up on Something Awful or 4Chan or something? Maybe. Not in a comic book printed by the largest publisher in the business. Did no one pick this up at any point and send David Lapham a note that said something like "Hey Dave, why are there so many rapes? Can we tamp that number down to, I don't know, zero rapes? Eagerly await your response." Guess not! Guess we now just print whatever the hell anyone hands us!
I can't un-recommend this book enough. I am a worse person for having read even a little bit of it. I think if I had finished this book I would've punched a grandma in the face just to see what it felt like. This book will sap your soul and replace it with a pile of dick jokes. You are genuinely better off walking into the ocean at a slow speed and letting the waves take you than you are even touching this thing.

I liked it!
This one runs deep.
Prepare to see Deadpool go through depression and abuse and mentally break down more than once and pretty much go crazy and read bits of his childhood while he's getting manipulated by Bob to do various jobs that include killing (duh) and other stuff.
The artwork unfortunately I didn't like, at first I was ok with it but then you can't just look at this type of art for too long, especially for a comic and more than that for Deadpool, the b/g in particular was like it was done in a hurry just to be done with, and I'm not gonna go through the characters and the coloring. It wasn't what I'm used to or what I like to see in an art style.
But, even so, the story was fun and sad and interesting to read.
Recommended for Deadpool fans for sure!

Deadpool MAX is the only Deadpool comic I have literally been unable to read, and not for lack of trying - I got 3 issues in before I decided I would rather smash my face repeatedly against a mirror than continue to read such repugnant and offensive drivel. Trust me, I get that MAX comics are supposed to be more "adult," but Deadpool comics are fairly adult by default, and in their attempts to be edgy, Lapham and Baker created something morally repulsive and offensive, ruining Deadpool's character.
Deadpool MAX is littered with cavalier depictions of violent assault and rape, child abuse and molestation, sadism, homophobia, and xenophobia, among plenty others, and all within the first issue! Not to mention, in defense of the comic, writer Kyle Baker commented, "We're not homophobes, we just thought it would be funny for a person to get fucked in the ass if he didn't want it." I don't know how many times I have to scream this: Rape jokes are not funny. RAPE JOKES ARE NOT FUNNY. And it's even more offensive considering that, canonically, Deadpool is raped by Typhoid Mary (see issues 12 & 13 of Kelly's run) and even in Deadpool MAX is molested as a child by his mother and subsequently abused TO THE POINT OF HOSPITALIZATION by his father. Yeah, Baker, real fucking funny.
All of that withstanding, the comic is not even remotely humorous, and the writing and art are awful. If you're looking for classic Deadpool, look elsewhere. The story is told from Bob's perspective and therefore instead of inhabiting Deadpool's character, sympathizing with him and learning to care for him despite his instability, we see Deadpool as just a mentally unstable and dangerous person. That's it. Frankly it's sad, and it's disgusting that Bob, along with others, manipulates this instability by pretending that Hydra is real in order to get Deadpool to work for him. While the art can sometimes be expressive, for the most part it's sloppy and headache-inducing.
Stay far clear of Deadpool MAX. It's literally not even worth the time.

I have loved the max comic's, but found deadpool to be badly writing.There loads of mini story that i found very boring, fighting scences end quick some funny parts but not many issue 3 was ok. Read the first 7 issues not going to bother with the rest to painfull i brought all 12 shame because it could have been one we talked about for years. Marvel should have let me write it i would have done a better job.

I am a big Deadpool fan and have read a number of his comics, & admittedly after seeing the movie and reading Alias (one of the original MAX titles) I had high hopes for this graphic novel.
Sadly this is a disappointing read, with all the potential of taking Deadpool (who is at heart more of a R-rated hero) and letting him loose in a more mature rated series (Marvel MAX is the mature rated version of marvel) would seem like a winning recipe for a classic of carnage & comedy. However unfortunately all they did was make it silly, (not in a Robin Williams, Monty Python good way more like Beverly Hillbillies, Beverly Hills Ninja kind of way) juvenile even, which for a mature audience was a big mistake also on a personal note to the writer offensive does not equal funny. The re-invention, by the writer, of stable Deadpool (and some Marvel) characters was not only unnecessary but only served to detract from the story, and only serves to prove that; 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' I believe the writer wanted to tell a story his way, and along the way forgot that the reader needs to enjoy the journey more than he does. Honestly if it wasn't Deadpool it probably would have only got 1 star.

There's a lot of shock and a lot of violence, but not a lot of thought or feeling in this book. If you've ever seen the movie Throw Mama From The Train, and why should you, you may remember a part where Billy Crystal tells Danny DeVito's character that just being crazy isn't enough of a motivation for murder. This book proves that advice right.

Nope. Not like this one. It was WAY too raunchy for me. And to Deadpool-y enough. Also, I hated this Hydra Bob. He was too real. And he looks like James Van Der Beek. I don't need to see Dawson do the things he did in this book. Sorry. No thank you.

The way this book works is kinda interesting - the main protagonist is not deadpool, Deadpool is the weapon whereas the agent who is looking out for him is the actual protagonist. And once the story starts proper, it just keeps getting wilder, and so much more insane. What makes Deadpool MAX so cool is that it gets Deadpool - think the movie and the comic actually merged, and the humor was maximized up to 11.
Highly recommended! Especially for hardcore Deadpool fans, it is a definitive read.

I fully understand why Deadpool MAX is controversial and sometimes polarising, but I couldn't help but love it. Definitely a different take on the character than 616 canon, in a positive way. The art direction and colour choices were very striking and memorable. I wouldn't mind seeing some of MAX Wade's history be incorporated into 616 Wade, but I'm not holding my breath.

Fairly chaotic. It has a Frank Miller in 1986 feel to it but way goofier. This would probably be best read in small doses. The characterization of Deadpool is pretty spot on. I liked Kyle Baker’s are quite a bit.

A comic book made for no one , too vulgar for kids and too dumb for adults. Only for the Deadpool completests. Marvel's MAX imprint has produced some really good comics like The Punisher or Fury, I suggest you track down those instead.

It's fun. I read a few issues as they were coming out and then figured I'd pick up the trade when I saw it at work.
Deadpool is always fun. It's strange reading a story where there aren't powers and other stuff.
The art is only so-so.
I'll probably check out Lapham's other work.

Not as familiar with this character but thought I'd give this a read when I found it cheaply. This supposed to be funny but I thought it was sad. Deadpool is mentally unbalanced and so is his handler. Didn't care for it.

Excellent volume collecting all of the no holds barred issues of Deadpool MAX. Great writing, plots and artwork depicting the "Merc with a Mouth." Funny, violent and irreverent. I hope to see his "handler", Bob in the next Deadpool movie. Highly recommended.

A little off (even for Deadpool) but I thought this was a fun read. Loved the violence, the language, and the humor. Unexpectedly laughed out loud more than I would care to admit.

Despite explanations given in the book, still not so sure Deadpool needs a MAX book. A lot of the adult MAXness seemed forced and just cause. Either way. Still some great moments.

Not exactly quality literature, but funny.
To its credit, this could have just been "Deadpool with cursing and boobies"—and it is—but it still manages to have an identity and voice of its own.
