iRest at Ease with Richard Miller PhD

Rate this book
iRest at Ease is a series of deeply relaxing guided meditations that provide tools for life for people experiencing PTSD, anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia and other issues, as well as for those wishing to experience a deep sense of well-being and peace in their daily life. iRest, the practice presented in these offerings, helps reduce symptoms while resolving their underlying issues, increases resiliency, reduces stress, and aids in getting a good nights sleep. Richard Miller, the developer of iRest and President of the Integrative Restoration Institute, and Kelly Boys, Director of IRI Operations, have teamed up to make this recording of iRest at Ease available in both a male and female voice to better serve the different populations of men and women who are benefiting from the practice of iRest. iRest at Ease contains an introduction and three separate iRest practices, including an on-the-go 8 minute practice, a 15 minute relaxing practice, and a 30 minute extended practice. It is tailored for military service members, veterans and their families, but can be used by anyone who wishes to develop coping skills for everyday challenges and increase their sense of well-being.

I really enjoyed this course, which in my opinion, covers all the main practical points along the road of developing skills in mindfulness, present moment awareness, relaxation, and beyond. The author as cleverly adopted techniques from a range of disciplines from yoga, Buddhist mindfulness and Advaita Vedanta. He's kept these techniques as simple as possible, and they really do work as presented. He delivers the techniques and information in an easy to follow manner. In the audio version, his voice is agreeable and soothing. He ends on the topic of beingness, awareness etc., which are actually high level practices and approaches in their own right, and he successfully delivers this information as well as many sages have in the past. The only other comment I'd like to make is that the title or 'iRest' label sometimes jarred with me, as it's a newish label that's been added to some ancient practices, and it sounds a little odd when he says "iRest" has been around for centuries-- meaning that the practices contained in this work have been around for centuries. That's just a small point though, and overall it's a great collection of practices one could use for many years.

Richard Miller discovered True Nature and shared a path for others to follow. He received the ancient teachings and translated them with accesible conversation about being spirit beings in human form.
