When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Spoiler alert. For those who have not heard this series is coming to an end with book fifteen, not that that's the last we will.see.of.Charlies, she had her friends will be.popping up in other series. I imagine she will figure a lot in the new Harley(quinn) series. Also the final battle between her and Sybil will take place in Detroit. Which means...................... Grimlocks.......yay. Onto this book, we are.in New Orleans the group (who now all know Charlie's secrets) are hiding out while Hadley tries to train Charlie so she's ready for the.fight that's to.come. Then Charlie and Jack learn of the murder of three teenagers on the riverbank and.the sightings since it happened of a Rougarou. Deciding a distraction is.needed they decide.to.look into the.murders and sightings to.see.if they can find the truth. Zoe Lake Winters turns up unexpectedly, she has come.to help train Charlie and proves invaluable in getting to the truth behind the Rougarou mystery....................
Are we just going to ignore the name change of Melina to Melinda?
On the one hand, I was happy to have Zoe back. However, I don't understand why Harley's character had to suddenly have a personality change. Not a complete change, but she was more subdued with her wit and also more emotional.
Laura is so ugh. Just the most unnecessary character. Where was Casey? He had like one line. Chris has become a petulant child. Very different from the Chris we met in book one. I think there's just too many characters now that no one is able to shine. They're all just lumped into a house and only one or two have personalities worth showcasing. The rest have just become too much like the other. They're just there. Jack is the biggest letdown. He's useless. His whole personality is loving Charlie. What happened to him being security and having military background? That would come in handy with a war that they all keep saying is coming, regardless if it's a magical war.
I enjoyed seeing more of the loas. I liked that we got to see Charlie without Jack (not broken up just in separate places). And I loved Zoe and all the pickle threats.
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Charlie Rhodes is a magical person that has a great number of paranormal beings in her history. She is gearing up for her battle against Sybil and evil witch that for centuries has been absorbing the powers of others just so she could go after Charlie as the ultimate prize. Charlie and the gang are in New Orleans and are about to go on a side adventure that you want to read about. As always a great story great characters and plenty of magical action. I do have one small issue in the book though. The character of Jack is always been a former military And security export with his experiences in the military. His characters always been for the most part clean cut straightforward and they manly man with his attitude and beliefs. For some reason his character was changed in this book to be an 80 hairband long haired man bun wearing ponytail wearing Guy. Just my opinion that’s a dinging against his man Card. I could understand it if the character of Chris was changed and wore and bun. It would fit his character. Sadly it does not fit the character of Jack. There was even a few flashback sequences Two times from earlier books with the story was changed to state that he had long hair and a ponytail. Once again just my opinion but that dinged this series for me. He’s not a metrosexual he’s not a for the most part woke type effeminate male. I do not like the changes to the character of Jack. Other than that read on and enjoy the story.
I love Amanda M Lee's books. Her characters are relatable and real. The scarcasm is off the charts in the best way. I cannot wait for the next Charlie book.
I have enjoyed the development of the characters and storytelling. I’ve also enjoyed the crossover characters and their roles as mentors and friends to Charlie. I had to subtract a star here because of continuity. I got over the hair color changes of Laura and Charlie. I got over Charlie wearing makeup at the beginning of the series and then all the sudden not understanding others wearing makeup and she only wears tinted moisturizer. Having a character named Nova in one book and the very next book a character named Nova but Charlie has never heard of anyone being named “Nova”. I got past all of this. Mostly. I’m 14 books in and I am invested in the characters but I almost quit reading when Charlie’s mom went from “Melina” to “Melinda”. It took me out of the story due to irritation. That’s just sloppy.
Love how Charlie’s story is coming to its conclusion, we see her team up with characters from previous books to solve murder and help her prepare for the coming battle for her life with Sybil. Charlie is finally starting to believe in herself with their help. Her relationship with Jack has grown stronger with every book, they’re so close to attaining that happy ending. Will be sad to see this series finish with the next book, have enjoyed it immensely.
As Charlie Rhodes is being prepared for her big fight, her friends come together to research the book that was found in Roswell. When they discover Charlie could turn from being the answer to the problems they face, into the problem it takes a smart ass mage to get Charlie to see sense. In the middle of preparing for the big fight, they decide they need to discover why three teens were murdered. Can Charlie stay on the right track? Will Chris get over being lied too all this time? Has Harley met her match?
I'm sad this series is almost done, but excited for the final battle. Charlie has a lot of power in her corner and a happily ever after to plan. I love her relationship with Jack. He is so good for her. I loved the surprise appearance of Zoe. She is my favorite of this authors characters. I love it when she shows up. Almost all the loas we have met and some new are in this book. They are always entertaining. Looking forward to next, but at same time, gonna miss Charlie and Jack.
First off, I will never give anything away in my review. With that said and the title of this review I will say things are getting really interesting. Poor Charlie is still being Charlie, but she has all the help that she needs and her future is still undecided but only because she is being Charlie. Amanda M. Lee has put together another great book in the Charlie Rhodes series and to know what I'm talking about your going to have to read the book yourself. Enjoy
Charlie is overwhelmed and needs a distraction. A Rougaro has been spotted nearby. Charlie and the group go to search, find 3 mysterious deaths and a mission.
Who is the Rougarou, how did the 3 kids die and who did it. What will happen to Charlie in the process.
Zoe becomes involved so the Snark is strong in this one! Expect a few laughing fits and an entertaining story.
Well this episode in Charlie Rhodes storyline is a winding trip with little action until the end. Kind of anticlimactic action wise but it did advance the story as far as a show down with Sybil. Looking forward to a great duel. I just wish Charlie would stop whining and doubting herself. Maybe now that she absorbed more magic she will become a more confident whitch.
I will give it to Amanda, she has a way of stretching things out and keeping me entertained. This book significantly cut down on the whining although Charlie needs to suck it up buttercup. At least Zoe came in with the sass. I looking forward to this battle. I’m hoping Aunt Tillie gets thrown in the mix for giggles. 2024, the year of the war. Sounds about right on target with the rest of the world.
Preparing for the fight of her life, Charlie is getting nowhere. Harley is driving her to hard, Jack wants to wrap her in bubble wrap, and Zoe is obsessed with pickles. The team knows the truth about Charlie and Chris is not happy until they point out why she kept it a secret. What are her parents and brother doing while she is getting ready for a fight. This one was a good one, I just hope when she gets rid of Sybil we get more stories. On to the next adventure.💙💚
I absolutely love the Amanda Lee books. I love that the characters cross back and forth thru all her series. I enjoy the humor and craziness of all the characters. I am sorry to know the end is coming for Charlie and her band of characters but hope to see her again in the other series. I always find it hard to stop reading one of her series but always look forward to the next one. The Charlie Rhodes series is no exception.
Charlie and her friends and family have gone to New Orleans to hide from Sybil and try to prepare for the upcoming fight. They are trying to decipher the book Erzulie gave them. Things aren't going well. Charlie is feeling pressured and needs a distraction which comes when they hear about a rougaroo citing. Zoe gets wind of what is going on and joins them for the hunt.
The storyline is picking up speed and becoming exciting as we race to the battle of all battles. Zoe’s character was a breath of life and humor needed to help tie the story together. Jack and Charlie’s relationship continues to grow and the development is going well. Glad Laura’s character has not changed. Be interesting to see how the Loas play a role in the battle. Can hardly wait for the next release.
I'm just super stoked how all my favorites are getting mushed right in this hot mess together! Its getting so exciting and the snark level is through the roof. The only bummer is the amount of whining and annoying attitude Jack is flinging around. I can't stand the needy junk. Other than that friggin fantastic. I can't wait for the final showdown.
Oh my goodness what an amazing story. I can’t believe we are almost done with this series. Everything has been leading up to the final battle which of course the next book. I love that we have crossover from other storylines and the next one is going to be huge loved it
Be warned - once you get about half way through you’re going to want to finish. I like that Charlie started getting a bit of instruction on her magic. Thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t wait for the next book with the final battle and the setup that Charlie and Jack are going to eventually visit Moonstone Bay.
The stories make you feel that it is perfectly reasonable that magic is real. I love the strong female characters. I can never just read a chapter here or there. I have to sit and read from beginning to end. Thank you for this delightful escape from reality, where good always triumph.
The group is back in new Orleans one of my favorite characters is in this one. The mage love Zoe . so far this is my favorite in this series. Although jack is becoming whining toddler with man bun lol Chris is having time of his life now that he coming to terms with everything
I loved reading this book. Laura who is now a crossroad demon is still hated by everyone. Zoe is on the scene to help Charlie. I think Jack feels left out, but he's not magical. Loas, demons, mage, shifters are there to help Charlie. Will the battle with Sybill be the end or is there more to come.
So, I really love how there's so many different adventures happening in one book; so much happening, so much excitement that just keep twisting and turning, you never know where it's going to go or what's going to come up next. So, so good; and really looking forward to the next. Great job.
However, for me, it wasn’t one of my favourites. I do like the way the Loas are popping up in the different series. Can’t wait for the battle to come (when they are all together), and I am hoping it might be soon as things seem to be moving towards the final battle. The mystery was okay, and the New Orleans location was fun.
I love this series. It’s fun seeing the crossover of other characters from different series involved. It gives even more scope to all the characters. I would have liked to have seen Ophelia and company at least mentioned, but it’s a really good series that I would recommend anyone to read.
This series is so fun! As, of course, are all the Amanda M Lee/Lily Harper Hart series This was especially good because they are back in New Orleans where all the Loas hang out and add a lot of spice to every story. Now it’s time to take out the crazy Sybil!
Great book! Love the love, laughter, and the snark. Charlie is such a great character! Jack, and the rest of the crew fill it with laughter, and awesome creatures. Amanda M. Lee writes a fabulous story, but this time, she left us with a cliffhanger (😱).
I can wait for the next one. I know it's going to be epic! To see Charlie growing is so fun to watch. It's going to be fun to see who shoes up to help her in the next one!
Charlie has gone through a lot in her life and she has made friends with amazing people, demons, and loas. This book leads up to the big battle. This book is full of love of family and friends as Charlie prepares and they help others from tragic situations.
