Ingrid is finally getting into the rhythm of another deployment until there was a knock on the door only 5 days in. She gets news her husband was KIA but that wasn't the most shocking news she would learn in the next year of her life. Miguel, Ingrid's husband, left her with a sample of him to be able to bear his children if something happened to him without informing her. Ingrid finds comfort in someone in her hometown, after spending most of her time back there, but she refuses to think that the relationship is a good idea. She does decide to grow her family without Miguel Earthside. On the day of her procedure to fall pregnant, she calls on her high school boyfriend for comfort but ends up with a lot more than that, if you know what I mean. She does not know who the biological father of her baby is or does she?
Think that's shocking?
When Ingrid is in the hospital giving birth to her baby, Miguel walks in. What life event will shock Ingrid the most? Does she regret the decisions she made?
The storyline was overall a decent story. The writing itself was very… amateur. Lots and lots of typos, spelling errors in general, grammatical errors and inconsistencies. My rating and review would’ve been much higher if the book was taken through a more thorough editing process.
2 ⭐ because I feel like I could like the book if it was written better.
Saw the author promoting on TikTok sold me and I preordered the book I've been trying to read the book since it came out but it's been really hard. For one this book is a self insert of the author, and normally that doesn't bother me but it feels very fanfic because the author is using her name as the FMCs.
The writing and way things are said in this book feel out of place. Ingrid used the phrase "not my first rodeo" TWICE! To talk about death...the FMCs MIL lost a kid before Ingrids husband died and MIL says "don't be sorry, this isn't my first rodeo" and Ingrid in her head explains that her MIL lost a son previously. As someone who's lost a child as well I would never say that about my son's death, its insensitive and doesn't feel right in the book. Second time author uses the phrase is when they're reading the will and Ingrid makes a remark that the person reading the will has tears in their eyes, but then says "this isn't his first rodeo with death" mind you these both happen in the first like 3-4 chapters of the book.
And then the author said "I said sorrowingly".... I don't know the way everything is written it just doesn't feel very cohesive it really takes you out of the book because a lot of her phrases and the way she's written things it's like too much information and then not enough information at the same time I don't know. There's a lot of spelling mistakes and phases that don't make sense.
I will probably not end up picking this book back up again..
*Edit* It seems like the book was removed from Amazon, hopefully for editing, I'll probably reread the book once it comes back out again because I like the story line and I feel like the book can be good with a decent amount of editing and finding real life people to ask about the military aspects of the book.
So BookTok led me to this book and honestly I was very disappointed. The plot had a lot of potential. I don't want to post a mean review because it was pretty clear this book was by an amateur writer. And that's okay... everyone has to start somewhere. I would definitely recommend a writing class or something to help in the future. As well as an editor. There were plot discrepancies and sentence flow that weren't right. There were so many grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors through the whole book. Not to mention some off putting parts like "nervous poops" and "coming out my butthole".
Now regarding the characters... I honestly just I didn't like Ingrid or Troy. Ingrid I found to be immature and whiney. As for Troy? He was perceived to be abusive and manipulative.
The story line is great, some parts a little rushed & Troy’s character was annoying at times. I had to give this 3 stars because the grammar and editing was underwhelming. I feel like I found a typo at least every other page. Other than that I did enjoy this book & it was a quick read!
I see everyone commenting on errors but this was self-published and overall yes there were a handful of noticeable things, but how many of the ones being so negative would self publish a book themselves let alone write one?
I felt the story line was good until the end, I felt the ending was rushed and could have been left as a cliff hanger at Troy buying the house and then continue on to the birth in a second series. The Miguel portion when she is having her “episode” could be a rolling start into a new novel. Just an opinion. But I did finish this book in 24 hours as I was hooked at knowing what would happen.

Stopped reading at 10%. It’s like there was no editing done prior to the book being published. And I feel horrible because it seemed like it was going to be amazing from the tiktoks I saw! I was so excited and only a few pages in I was already disappointed. I just couldn’t keep reading. The dialogue was so cringey and everything was spelled out rather than using contractions - people just don’t talk that way.
I was so excited to read this book after seeing it on TikTok. I even preordered it. However, the writing was very juvenile and there were very basic spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. The storyline was good but the writing itself and lack of editing really distracted from the storyline and made it hard to get through. I’d definitely recommend the author to invest in an editor and alpha/beta readers to help fix these mistakes before publishing, if she chooses to write another book.
The writing itself sounded like a child writing a school essay instead of a book. The verb tenses switch between present tense and past tense, as if the author couldn’t decide if the narrator should be retelling the story or experiencing it in real time.
In chapter 2 when her husband dies she has the marines call her sister and is crying uncontrollably but then joking in the next sentence. It’s very unclear with her crying uncontrollably to being controlled, joking, and speaking coherently to the marines to them having to carry her to the Florida room. Overall just very poorly written with little thought put into how she should be reacting. This could’ve been a very impactful chapter where the reader really connects with Ingrid and feels her pain but felt more like her finding out about his death was just glazed over.
Dialogue between characters isn’t written consistently. Some parts say “she asked” whereas others say “Me:” then lists the dialogue. It switched between typical novel dialogue format and almost like a movie script format for dialogue.
It was also very confusing how they claim that Ingrid’s family cares so deeply and is just trying to protect her, yet they threw a whole grieving surprise party for her to come home to, which was just very odd.
There’s also parts of the book where the author doesn’t state the narrator/POV has changed and the reader has to figure it out on their own through the dialogue.
On p62 she’s asking God why he took her husband 10 years after her father but on p63 her sister says she lost her father at 15 and her husband at 30, which is 15 years not 10.
Throughout the book the author does not use your/you’re correctly. On p112 she says “sunset” twice when she meant Sun rise.
It took me over two months to read this book when typically I finish books the same day I start them and I still didn’t finish it. I really had to force myself to read this one. Ingrid is so whiny and such an unlikeable character. Troy obviously has no respect for her and only cares about his feelings. This book had so much potential with a very promising storyline but the lack of editing combined with juvenile writing and poor character development made it a rough read to get through.
Reading the reviews, the positive ones don’t actually discuss the book but the negative ones all say virtually the same thing. Hopefully the author takes these reviews to heart and can grow as a writer (and hire an editor) if she plans to continue writing books.

I knew going to into reading this was from a first time author and expected the typical editing learning curve. That really didn’t bother me. I enjoyed the unusual story line and honestly not knowing what the outcome would be. Troy was not my favorite but the epilogue was very sweet. Overall 2.5/3 stars.
I really wanted to love this book, but I just couldn’t. Troy gave me the ick from the start when he came on so strong and wouldn’t leave Ingrid alone to grieve her dead husband and I just couldn’t get past that. It was almost like he had an obsession and even when she had asked him to leave her alone, he didn’t.
This book was a cute, quick read. I found it on tik tok and thought I’d give it a shot. There were some scenes that I wish had a little more detail but overall I liked it.
I haven't read a book like this that I couldn't put down in a long time! While there are some grammatical errors and spelling issues, the plot is great and for being self published just think it's awesome! Can't wait to see if there is a sequel!
She has a great story line. And to be a first time writer I think she has done amazing. Yes there is some spelling errors etc. but everyone has to start somewhere. This story immediately grabs you. Best of luck in the future.
The writing was very amateur, felt like the author was trying to meet the word count quota on a essay. Story plot was good but could’ve been executed better. I took me almost a month to finish this book.
Okay so I watched a tik tok about this book and was super excited about it bc it’s an interesting story line. This was one of the worst books I’ve read. The author didn’t do any research about marines or bases. The story line was weird. The “coming back” of her husband was stupid and bullshit.
I first saw the authors TikTok promoting her book in what it’s about before it was officially published and I immediately bought the book for kindle. I’m not much into reading but I definitely loved this book. There are some grammar issues and typos but none of that bothers me. Such a great read!
I loved the storyline, it really could be good. It was just really hard to get through the blunt and choppy writing. I wish there was more flow and more use of different words to keep it going. I also wish there was a better way to cut between past scenes, that was choppy as well.
Overall, a great storyline line, especially reading as a military wife myself. Just could use some one else to come through and spice/fluff it up!
So I was a beta reader for this book. I was really hoping that there would have been some action taken from the extensive and thorough notes that I answered after the initial read. Unfortunately upon reading the final outcome no changes were taken. I mentioned countless times the lack of grammar checking, the way that some parts were not needed and did not flow together, and just how the lack of research as to what goes into the ceremony when a fallen soldier comes home was disrespectful. Still, nothing had changed. The part that people were interested in and clicked pre order for was disappointing and uneventful. I truly feel that the author caught a good buzz off of going viral online and instead of making sure she had a quality book that she just submitted what she had before the viral video went out of peoples minds. I hope she still has that survey and has a time to reflect and heed everyone's critiques. I would have titled this book Clickbait, as to that's how I am sure the audience who came from social media feels.
I seen this book from TikTok and I got all excited because it sounded really good. however this book need a lot of editing! To me this seemed like a rough draft. The storyline was decent, but there was a lot of inconsistencies with details. Troy was very intense from the gecko.. like damn, let a woman grieve stop thinking with your dick.
From looking on Amazon it looks like the author has removed the book which I am hopeful that’s the case. The storyline has a lot of potential, but it just needs a lot of work.
From the story I read Pre Amazon pull. I do not recommend this book.
