This was such a heartwarming read. Jamal is definitely one of my book baes. A Cinderella trope that pulled at my heart strings. Definitely recommend to African romance lovers!

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the locale, which is based on a real place in Africa where the author lived as a child. At first, I thought the story was taking place hundreds of years ago due to the formal writing style, but it is present day. I had much respect for Jamal, who at first refrained from getting involved with Gazie once he'd taken on the role as her protector. Also there was an age gap that bothered him. He was 33 and she was 22.

Here is a quote from the book:

''Jamal took hold of her, and had to force himself not to wrap her against him. 'Listen, sweet one. You're under my care and protection, and I shouldn't take advantage of you.'" 🥰🥰🥰

And I loved how Jamal protected Gazie from her abuser. Instead of beating him to a pulp--which he deserved--Jamal used the law, logic and money. Loved Jamal!

This book does have themes of trafficking/abuse, but the heroine runs away at the beginning, so the story does not go into graphic detail.

Allow me to use this Nigerian exclamation.

Omoh, I love this story. I discovered this author this year and she has me in a choke mode.

Her Shield is a beautiful Cinderella story retelling that warmed my heart. And the fact that it is a small town romance, written so beautifully did it for me.

Well done, author. I'll read more of your works

The chemistry between Jamal and Gazie burnt the pages! Throw in the little boy and it's too cute for dry eyes. Gruff, muscular but kind and loving men will always be enjoyable.
