Jaxon Devins knows his mother’s death was a murder, and he aims to prove it. But ten years searching for answers couldn’t have prepared him for what he’d found. Within the depths below the small upstate city in New York, heinous crimes are being committed.
Uncovering even darker secrets than he expected, Jaxon is caught while trying to expose the Gregori family. The untouchable family, responsible for his mother’s death, father’s incarceration and now his captivity, has set their sights on his sister.
His only chance to save her; embrace the monster they’ve awakened beneath his skin, befriend the caged psychopath next to him, and escape together.
This was a short a sweet prequel for Burning Red. I read that book first, so it was a bit backwards, and I sort already of knew mostly what went on in this book. Though I am still giving it five stars for what it is. This one tells the story of Jaxon from the time he got a job with the Gregori’s hoping to find out there secrets and take them down, till right before he and the guy in the next cell try to escape from the hidden facility where they are being experimented on and turned into monsters.
I love the fact that even though this is a very short prequel, we get flashbacks from Jaxon detailing the beginning of his relationship with Sierra as well as what happened between them on the day he disappeared. It was definitely worth reading even though I had already read the following book.
Received this ARC and it had me hooked from the start! It’s a short quick read BUT it starts off right away with action and spicy 🌶️ I gotta know what happens next!
Super quick read that hooks you from the very beginning!
So much happens in this short prequel novella. The storyline seems intriguing and I can’t wait to find out more of the story and what happens. I think the trilogy is going to be awesome.
I wish there was more of a defined transition from the past to present timeline, though. I struggled a little there with all of the happenings going on. It’s seriously action packed and you get thrown right into the mix - like mentioned previously, I can’t wait to find out more of this story and see where Jax leads us!
From the first page I was drawn in. I never thought I could learn so much and become attached to a character and story in 30 pages, but here we are. I am salivating in anticipation for the series to continue.
Between the compelling story line and engaging composition this story was quite literally unputdownable. A good hint of spice was also included and gave insight into Jaxon’s personal life shadowed by the purpose driving him. Within the few pages of this prequel lay depth, desire, drive, and the unknown.
All I can say is that Jaxon Devins is on a mission and I can’t wait to go on it with him.
This was a very short little prequel but set the perfect tone for the red legacies.
Love the writing style and the eluding to what’s to come setting the tone. I hope to see what happens to Jax and his lovely lady, who the mysterious neighbor is too.
Diving right into Burning Red asap !
Solid 5 ⭐️ and be there is so,e spice here I’ll say 2 🌶️
I secretly wished Jaxon had more “screen time” in the main novel, and this delivered! It gives a bit more insight on where he’s been plus his relationship with Sierra that just adds to his character.
3.75 ⭐️ “The beast they’d unleashed inside of me would be my salvation.“
A really great intro to this triology. A super fast paced novella that gets you RIGHT into it! Spicy, twisted, action packed and all within a few chapters.
Personally, I wish the time jumps and change in scenery had more explanation since it took me a minute to adjust to the past/present timeline. There’s just a LOT happening at once…I hope that all of it gets explained within book one because I am HOOKED…I just don’t want any plot points to get lost since so much did happen within this novella. I cant wait to truly understand this world and Jax!
**I received this book as an ARC from the lovely author herself, see her socials for more details!!**
That was seriously an amazing prequel. You had me from the first paragraph and I’ve got to say, I have no idea where you’re going with this but I can’t wait to find out! You’ve got my adrenaline going, just by that last part alone. I’m pretty sure I’m in shock! Wow! I can’t wait for the rest of the trilogy. Five stars, easy! Here, take six and we’ll call it even. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Such a fast read! Read within an hour and was easy to get through. The beginning was lots of action and had a lot of info coming your way. But let up the second chapter where the Jaxon goes in and out of consciousness. It had elements that made it very much like a scene where you would watch in a movie, so It was easy to visualize. Left you hanging and wanting to know what was going at the end!
This is a prequel to a new series and there was A LOT that happened in the 36 pages of this book. Jaxon knows his mother was murdered, but he can't prove it yet. He gets a job with the same people, who he knows murdered his mother, in hopes of gaining information. This book grabbed my attention right away and left me with my head spinning after reading the last page. I have so many questions that I need answered and I know this is going to be a really good series. A good prequel is well written (check) It pulls you into the story and doesn't let go until the very end (check) It makes you wonder where the story is going to go and what is going to happen next (check) The characters are well rounded and have depth, regardless if you like them or not (check) Overall, I can't wait to read the next book in this series to see just where the author takes things! 5/5 stars and definitely recommend!
Such a quick read, but some much detail is added. It’s quite fast paced at the start, but is needed and isn’t jumbled. Then as you get further starts to slow down but still gets interesting. Definitely want to read to more. This is the first book I’ve read with this genre, but I absolutely loved it. I love that you get snippets of the other characters to come. And the background of everything that’s happening.
Overall, such a quick read, fast paced but very interesting and entertaining. Can’t wait 😛
Trinity Slain wrote Hint of Red which is an enthralling prelude for Burning Red. This is a very short book that peaks your interest to quickly read Burning Red.
Jaxon is looking to make the man responsible for killing his mother suffer. Unfortunately, his plan puts his life in severe danger. The Gregori complex is a secret laboratory where sinister things occur to innocent people. Will Jaxon be able to fulfill his wish for revenge?
I’m starting Burning Red immediately as I need to see if Jaxon succeeds!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Okay, so be prepared to literally breeze through this.
This is a prequel that gives you just enough information to want more. While it doesn't have a whole let of character depth, because it's short, you definitely get a sense of the characters in the story. I love the sense of hone that you get from Jaxon, and I really hope that he gets out in time to save his sister and Sierra.
I received this as an arc and found it to be very interesting. This is a prequel for the Red Legacy Trilogy.
The beast they’d unleashed inside of me would be my salvation.
This was definitely interesting and gave some details about Jaxon and his situation. The back and forth between past and present didn’t feel well defined as I would have liked and became somewhat confusing. It was interesting but I think it just need more substance.
This short read/prequel had me hooked from the very first page. The author throws us right into the action and I am loving it. By the end of this story I was left with so many questions and I HAVE to know more. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next story because I will be thinking about this until I get my answers!
Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Man was this prequel ever a tease to what will happen in the next book! Considering it was so short there was plenty of spice and mystery to everything that happened! I can’t wait for the next book in the series so I can figure it all out!!
This is a fast paced prequel to The Red Legacies. It starts off quick and right to the point. It was a little hard to keep up with between the past and present timelines for myself. It does have some spice thrown in as well. I am intrigued and want to find out more about Jaxon and Sierra and what’s going on with the Gregoris.
If this is any hint to what the series will bring, I am here for it!!
Who knew that finding a severely injured man up on the cliff could lead you to being held captive and tested on.. something strange is definitely going on and Jaxson wants nothing more than to find a way out to protect his sister and girlfriend who don’t even know what’s coming. But he will need the help of the strangely quiet man in the other cell to escape..
This is the perfect prequel to launch you straight into book one.. bring it on!!
I made a mistake by reading this late at night in preparation to read the next book tomorrow, because now I can't stop. I was hooked from page one and I can't wait to figure out what the heck is going on. Secret schools and prisons and creatures and labs and mysterious families that have too much power. Sign. Me. Up.
I was sent this ARC for an honest review! Although this was a prequel, it drew me in and I definitely wanted more. We only got a little bit of character building, and I cannot wait to read book 1 to learn more about Jax and what happened.
Great quick read! I can't wait to see the rest of the story and find out what happens to Jaxon. Of course I'd love to ARC read it too! I really want to know what happened with him and Sierra. Did she just leave? Ahhh. Great read!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I received this arc in exchange for my honest opinion - all opinions below are my own.
Although short, it’s intensely gripping and I’m amazed at how much I need more already. I can’t wait to read more about Jaxon, and see how his story unfolds.
Hint of Red by @trinityslainauthor is a prequel to the Red Legacy series. I have more questions than answers after reading this story which I guess is exactly what you're looking for in a prequel. 😅 I am definitely fully invested in Jaxon's story and concerned for his well being.
This was a good lead up to book 1, which I’ll be reading. Even though not a whole lot happened in this 36 page prequel, there’s enough to make you wonder what will happen next!
I know this was a prequel but I felt like I was missing so much of the story and was confused most of the time. It has great potential for the trilogy though I would just wanted more background about the characters or world building.
This was the best teaser/intro into a story I’ve read in a long time. What is he turning into? Is his sister and Sierra safe? How many others are going through this with Jax? I love a good paranormal romance, and this is for me! I can’t wait to dive in deeper!
